Amazing work great video! Very well explained! Question for you - it looks like your monitor is very close to the back of the gimbal - do you find you can't really tilt up with this setup?
Ok good to know! As a matter of preference I’d probably mount monitor off camera and use counter weights if needed. Thank you! Definitely using some of your advice in this vid for my rig.
Why would you put the monitor on the camera? When the gimbal is in a lower position you will have difficulty seeing the monitor. I always mount it off the gimbal.
Right! The monitor should be mounted off the gimbal. In this way you could rotate the inclination of the monitor to have an excellent view in all positions.
For the reasons I pointed out in the video: Weight is not on one side of the rig, and the monitor moves with the camera. This is all a matter of taste.
i am very impressed with your idea. however i have a small question. in your video 2:53 it talks about an adapter for mounting the monitor. can you give me information to buy it?
Very helpful video and loved how you showed putting everything together. I just started videography journey this year and looking to make some short films in the near future. For now I'm doing vlogs style videos with story telling elements and this video was perfect, since I have most of the gear and will just need the accessories to build up slowly!
Are you planning to make a video with the SmallRig power supply baseplate? Since it has both the 2-Pin LEMO-Type Input/Output Connectors do you think then you can power the control handle with it? Instead of using the expansion part which comes with the control handle!
The control handle does not only receive power through the expansion port, but also communicates with it. There are actually 6 pins which include the CAN port. The control handle does not work wirelessly, so the expansion port is mandatory.
Nice build! I'd like to replicate it, but I can't grasp where to find the first mount you placed at the bottom of the gimbal plate at 5:20. If you could help, I'd be hella thankful!
Hey Johannes, are you implying that the delay you are encountering is responsible for the inability to pan in and out of particular scenes smoothly ? Where as if you would just go originally with the factory (Already put together) DJI Gimbal with the toggle controller, those move more swiftly and efficiently ...?? if so, that's a deal breaker man, which is crazy because It's actually a masterpiece which is an irony in itself. However, If it is a yes to the questions iv'e had I'd hate to admit that I'm under the assumption gimbals with toggle control may be some what difficult when attempting to utilize the toggle controller and the follow focus simultaneously if that variable would happen to present itself.
I need something like the power supply base plate but in a form of protection to protect the pins from getting damaged when I disassemble and put the gimbal in another bag. Any recommendations?
You need that to put the gimbal away without the battery or baseplate? I never worried about anything breaking, but yeah, I don't know if such a protector exists... My biggest worry is the little joystick, though...
@ Yes, I want to put the gimbal in another bag disassembled without the battery, since the case it comes in, is too big and cannot fit into my bag if I want to take one bag. I want to protect the pins from getting damaged if I do that so I was wondering if there was an available protection or cover that looks like the power supply base place. Concerning the joystick, my RS4 pro has a pretty firm and flexible feel to it, so I’m not worried about it. I’m guessing yours also has a similar feel to it. Thanks for the feedback!
@@cyvidal10 not sure what you mean. I have adjusted it so that the camera doesn’t collide with the handles. But what does that have to do with the delay?
Thank you for this incredibly helpful video Johannes. Is it possible for us common-folks to locate the two component parts used to mount the monitor via. the baseplate?
Hello, Thank you very much for this video ! I've looking for that since a long time ago ! I would like to know how you designed your own pieces with smallrig and if you could tell me a reference to your own monitor mount and others since I think I need exactly the same ! I'm using a ninja v+. Thanks in advance and best regards !
Thanks! I designed it using Autodesk Fusion 360 and sent it to SmallRig (just google "DreamRig" and you'll find the website of that program). If they like the idea, they will manufacture it for you. And if they think there might be a larger demand, they will add it as an official product and give you commission on each sale. This has never happened to me, so I'm afraid that I cannot give you a part number or anything. The only thing you could try is to write to them and refer to this video. Good luck!

I personally really like it, but I also have to say that I never owned or used another cine lens. I think it's definitely a good beginner lens, just because it's relatively cheap. The intro of my last video "5 Tips for SmallRig MagicFIZ Follow Focus" was also filmed with that lens.
I don't see any DJI TETHERED CONTROL HANDLE in the DJI site... and is "currently unavailable" on Amazon! AND, I think it doesn't work in a RS3 (NOT PRO) as you mention!
yeah, I never use that actually, but it's definitely impossible with this setup. That's what I meant with "I would not do fancy shots with this". To be clear: that's not the only configuration that I use with the gimbal. I only do that when I use the cinema lens. When do you use that mode? Low angles? Or also "inception shots"?

Question for you - it looks like your monitor is very close to the back of the gimbal - do you find you can't really tilt up with this setup?
Indeed, tilting up is limited, and not practical in this setup anyway because the screen gets blockt by the gimbal arm.

On the tethered controller, does the gimbal lock when you hold down the trigger ? Like it does on the actual trigger. Mine does not
It does, but with a delay, see 15:03
Does it displayed ‘locked’ on the screen as the normal trigger does ?
