- Got my bike back from the dealer after her 25,000 mile service! It's a 2019 Harley Street Glide Special, in case you forgot :D
We get a walkaround walkthrough from a Master Harley tech and then I go for a ride and talk about it, cool stuff!
Thanks to Harley-Davidson of Frederick for getting the work done for me, and Tom the Master technician for explaining it all to me!

Well done John! He did an excellent job explaining all the service work done. Always nice to have peace of mind knowing everything on the bike is top running condition. Saves more time for putting another 25k on the bike. 🙂👍
You got it! And he DID do a great job!
Sounds like you could use the T-Clocs form. Which covers quite a lot of stuff.
Looks like a great place to have your bike serviced. So many “techs” are useless anymore.
Yeah, they've got a lot of people who've been there a long time, so they're doing SOMETHING right :D
It’s nice to actually see what they are looking for and what they do for a service. Pretty cool of him to do that!
You're right on BOTH accounts, my friend! :D
Awesome he took the time to explain everything, and on camera!!! Well done!!!
Yeah, he sure did! Thanks :)
Great job, love speaking with master technician about bikes. Keeps rolling.
Thanks! 👍
Just subbed on your channel John
Know you from Dr.Harley channel. Supporting you
Thanks, Dean! Welcome to the Road Crew, my friend!
He gave a good in depth explanation. very well done John.
Thanks! I agree, he did a great job. Easiest video I've EVER recorded... ask question, listen to answer, add half-decent quip, DONE! :D
got everything but the brake fluid and the bearings, will address in the winter...........great infotainment !!
Thanks man! Yeah, I'll get that stuff done at the next service :D
I changed my brake and hydraulic clutch fluids myself this summer and it was pretty painless.
Great video. 😎👍👍
Thanks 👍 Man, you did your own fluid changes? That's awesome! My mechanic friend suggested strongly to me that I should have a pro do it... then again, he's known me for over 20 years, so he knows how bad I'd mess it up :D
@@RoadRealityHard to mess up a fluid change. Any basic maintenance is something the average housewife could do, especially with everything having 1000 examples online.
@@freebehindbars8654 LOL, I am by far a below average housewife :D
@@RoadReality Don’t sell yourself short, I think you’d make an excellent housewife.
@@freebehindbars8654 Why, thank you - I've always depended on the kindness of strangers! :D
So a 25k service consists of everything i check on a regular service every 2500 miles except i actually change all 3 holes
That's awesome!
Well done on the inspection. Dude knows his sh!t.
Thanks! I thought it was really nice of him to take the time to explain it all to me, AND he did a great job :D
@@RoadRealityOh he really was. Super cool guy 😊
Hey, I noticed the trickle charger plug on the saddlebag guard. I routed mine up under the saddle so I can access it from the crack between the front and rear seats.
As far as the moisture in the brake fluid, I suspect that H-D has been getting on the dealers. For all 86k miles of my 99, 68k miles of my 09, and nearly 112k of the 14 - only the last time I had the compensator replaced did a dealer even mention moisture in the brake fluid.
Oh, that's a neat spot for the plug! Are you talking about where the driver backrest goes? Because my seat is 1-piece.
Yeah, the brake fluid kinda grinds my gears... it ain't cheap to have done, and I just did it at the last service - I didn't expect it to be needed so soon! I think you're right though - I bet they had a bunch of warranty work or possible recalls over it, and more frequent flushes prevents whatever it is that's fouling up.
@@RoadReality Aye where the backrest fits. There should be room if it is there is a split.
I did see some grumblings online about ABS modules failing so maybe that could be the motivation?
@@RRatedCustoms Ahh, the backrest slot - yeah, hard to reach to plug in my heated gloves, which is why I have it zip-tied to the saddlebag guard :D
ABS module failures are EXPENSIVE! No wonder they'd crack down on that. I think you're right on the money with that one!
@@RoadReality Just a suggestion. I never had a big problem plugging into that spot but everyone is different.
@@RRatedCustoms LOL, when I first got the bike, the plug came out of the bottom of the side cover - and I'd always forget and pop it out when I got off the bike with my heated gloves on. Since I moved it, I can reach it while seated, so I don't forget. Not sure how that works, but it works.
I may try your spot though, it would make it cleaner for sure!
Pretty cool. So, are we going to hop on the bike and talk about what we just heard?? 😁 Nice rundown of what all they check.
Yep - Wednesday's video is asking if anything feels different after the service. Hopefully I remembered to cover it all there - if not, ask questions of me :D
So this guy didnt actually do your service and then forgot the neck bearings were checked?!?!.!
It happens! Thanks for watching
Nice sometimes I wounder if they really do that all.
I do too, but in this case, I think they do!
rare to find techs now that know what they are talking about.
Yeah, he's been there a LONG time, and he cares! :D
Couldn't you just use caliper for "that tool"? / It's nice that the workshop is willing to go in to detail about what is done. Builds trust in relationship.
I have no idea, but maybe? But yep - it was really cool that he went through that with me :D
wow your fairly local to me!
Cool!
LMAO, you make it happen sir. Keep being you. ... Bob
Thanks, Bob! :D I can't be anyone else :D
I'm glad they do as much as they do for the amount I pay.
Right? You're getting a fairly comprehensive inspection :D
@RoadReality my local dealer (3 State Harley in Bossier City, Louisiana), has the HD "warranty forever" that covers everything with fluid in it. I'm bound by agreement to have them do every service in order to keep my warranty. I have to ask the dealer to do simple things like change plug wires or even my battery. Most things, the dealer has to perform. That being said, if my motor, clutch, or primary ever goes, they'll replace it for free.
My 2019 RGS has 57,000 miles on it.... I like to ride lol.. BTW I was out the country for 2 years cause of covid and did not ride it!
Nice! How's the bike holding up?
@@RoadReality It was good until I hit 40,000 in Dec 22 and it started smoking one morning, took a video and showed it to my local dealership, resulted in a tear down and rebuild with new heads, pistons and cylinders, than god for extended warranty, only cost me $50 :) I have put 17,000 on it since 1st March... so far so good 🤞
@@paineys3341 Wow! Did the dealership find out what the root cause was? I don't have an extended warranty :(
@@RoadReality rear cylinder went bad, I was very lucky, would have cost me thousands otherwise
@@paineys3341 Wow! Yeah, that's a lucky save! The rear cylinder is the one that EITMS shuts off - I wonder if that had anything to do with it?
Also, do you have the rear cylinder fan that comes on when the engine gets hot?
You only do 5k a year?
Yeah, give or take. This year has been more like 7k, though.
have a buddy did 25000 in one yr, me i only do 8 to 10000 a yr
That's a lot of miles! Either way!
@@RoadReality me and the wife do a lot of weekend road trips
@@timnevitt2993 That's really cool!
"Not looking at service history" thats dumb for many reasons
To be fair, I had never had my bike serviced here, so I'm not sure they had access to everything that's been done to the bike in the past.
I hate this when people brag about I do this many miles that many miles talk about arrogant
Amen to that!
