    The joys of vehicle maintenance. Got my 10k coming up soon. Don't think I need tires yet. Maybe pads. Heated grips would be nice. I almost installed some when I did my bars. Not sure how often I would need them being in Texas now. There are some things I am comfortable working on. Others I would rather just leave up to the professionals. Glad you are all fixed up and out on the road. 🤘🏻

      Yeah, it's weird when I ONLY have to take a vehicle in for basic services... it happens so rarely! Good luck with your 10k :D
      The heated grips are great, I'm not gonna lie - even on a 50-60 degree morning :D
      Thanks for the kind words - and ride safe!

    There's a lot to comment on this one. HD heated grips are amazing and typically I keep mine on 1 or 2, they're that hot. Installing heated grips is akin to installing new handle bars and having thread the wires through the bars. Labor runs typically $100 hr and takes 7 to 8 hours to install. It's a rascal of a job!
    Wheel bearing rice in 20k is unacceptable. I usually get 30 to 50k on a set. Rear break pads are easy peasy, 29 min job. Bleed and flush is no joke because HDs have to be hooked up to a bleeder machine to ensure no air bubbles or yoy ABS will fail. Throw in new tires and you'll have to sell a slightly used kidney to foot the bill. 😖😖😵

      1 or 2 on the grips - that's been my experience so far... I'm looking forward to those 30-degree days where I might need them on higher than that :D
      The shop charged me 2.5 hours of labor, IIRC, for installing the grips - I think the newer M8 bikes have some of the wiring pre-done, but don't quote me on that.
      The wheel bearings is a danged shame, I agree. I attribute it to the amount of potholes, manhole covers, and general shabby condition of roads around here :(
      That brake flush - you're 100% right. I consulted with a mechanic friend of mine who's in the business [he does cars, but knows bikes and works on them too] and he said to just pay it, I don't want to tackle it myself.
      Yep, I'm down to 1 kidney now, but as you can see in the video, the grin on my face says it was worth it :D
      Thanks for watching Eric & taking the time to share your experience, it's truly appreciated!

    Good one John. Almost like having a new bike after all that service. The heated grips are really gonna be nice when it get cold.

      You got that right, on all accounts :D And, as of this comment, our weather is gonna be in the 40s for the next week, so if it ain't raining, I'll get plenty of riding time to test 'em out :D

    At first when you said that your weren't going to say how much it costs for your 20k I was pissed, I was like, that's why I clicked on the video 😂
    But honestly I respect that you did not disclose the painful truth about being a Harley Davidson owner.
    I have a 2021 Street Glide Special and have 22,400 miles on her..
    I have wanted to make so many videos about the cost of being a Harley owner but have refrained myself from shining a negative light on the dark truth,lol
    I swore on my last service that I will start doing my oil changes and brakes to save money 🤑
    Thx for the video brother.
    Safe travels and God bless
    From AZ 🏜️✊🏼

      I knew some people might get miffed that I didn't lay out the costs... but it was more about the overall parts usage than the dollar figure anyway.
      You put a lot of miles on your bike - way to go! I bet you'll save a ton of coin doing some of the services yourself - more power to ya!
      Ride safe & thanks for watching!

      That's awesome! Some vehicles just eat through some parts more frequently than others, I guess. Are the roads in good shape where you ride?

    20 Ultra Limited is at 18k miles. No wheel bearing....yet. I call it the “Harley Tax.” I’m fortunate right now that I have an independent motorcycle tech. He’s much more reasonable. Oil change (all three holes) is $350 at the local harley dealer. My tech charges $175.

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  Рік тому +1

      That's awesome, Jeff! My indy shop closed up, but he was still $450 for a 3-hole service, compared to $500 at the dealer... guess I ought to move down south! :D

    Nice!! Kahuna heated grips!!!
    I always get them installed on every Harley I have ever owned!
    As for bearings - nope never had to deal with them - yet!!!!
    Your gas I noticed is cheap! If we do the we are paying 7.15 a gallon here! Yup!!
    Love the colors of fall!!!
    Good thing you got a GPS!

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  Рік тому +1

      +10 to you, for installing heated grips on every Harley - or did you specifically install the Kahuna ones? They're a sweet look and great for my big ol' mitts!
      Glad you haven't dealt with wheel bearings... apparently my bike has 4 of them. Who knew?
      Gas is down - and THAT was an expensive station - 20 miles away [and too close for comfort] it's cheaper by almost $.50 where I live.
      Fall colors > most all colors.
      Yay for GPS too! Without it, I'd be truly well and lost most rides :D
      Thanks for watching HG!

      @@HarleyGurl114 Gotcha! When I was looking into getting a Street Glide, I saw the Kahuna Collection, and I was smitten... fast forward to when I found my bike on the showroom floor, and the dealer had already installed the entire collection on what became my bike. It was a no-brainer :D

    I'm not going to ask how much all that cost cause I already know that really had to hurt!!
    Made a few bad turns like that exploring myself. Like, nope, a motorcycle isn't going to go through that! 😂.
    Good video man!!

      Thanks KG! Yeah, don't ask, it'll make you cry. I think it was almost a Grom, out the door, LOL. Oh well, it was needed. And yeah, oops... silly me, thinking that was a through road. You live, you learn, you duck walk the bike back to civilization!

      Those southern roads, are they better-paved? I bet they are. Glad you haven't had to deal with it... it's a BUZZ kill. Pun intended, if not actually achieved.

    10k for wheel bearings seems awful soon. I would question the quality of the OEM bearings. I think next time of they die again at 10k, I would go get a really good set of bearings like SKF Explorer that are properly double sealed. I bet they put single sealed bearings in, and water/moister gets in from the inside through the wheel hub.

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  Рік тому

      SKF Explorer, huh? Sounds like a plan to me! [sets phone reminder for 2 years from now]
      Something's gotta give, next time. I'll probably change tire brands too, if this cupping thing keeps happening.
      Thanks for the info, Dewey!

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  Рік тому

      Nice! I wonder if road quality has anything to do with it - several people have told me that the stock wheel bearings are subject to accelerated wear when there's lots of rough roads.

  • @BlackphoenixEntertainment
    @BlackphoenixEntertainment Рік тому +1

    yeah, wheel bearings should not be going that often. Out of all my cars I've only had to do wheel bearings on one of them. Now for tires...I always go through those lol

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  Рік тому

      It's all those trips to Mexico that do your tires in! I agree though, it's odd to eat through bearings like that.

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  Рік тому

      That's awesome man, wheel bearing problems suck! As for the cupping - I thought it might've been the 3k miles put on the stock ones before I got the bike, but alas, that is not the case. When these go, I'll probably switch brands.

    OK, not sure but my Honda 1300R never needed more than oil and lights? Tires about every 15K, my riding may be different?
    My Tri Glide had front tire at 16500 side tires are still going almost 20K and nothing more. The nut adjustment is due at 25K for that. Good talking video.
    Ride it like you want, it’s your bike.

    • @RoadReality
      @RoadReality  Рік тому +1

      Hondas are reliable, that's for sure! If you're referring to the steering nut, I had it done at 10k, but it's still good for now :D
      I know you do a lot of highway miles, maybe that's the difference in tire wear?
      Thanks for watching, Dave!
