    Personally I'm happy it doesn't have a touch screen, I never thought a touch-screen could be annoying but on my last Garmin I lost 2 runs with my sleeve/water touching the screen, one of which was a PB!! Promptly sold that watch and haven't had a touchscreen since. Physical buttons all day, everyday for me.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому +13

      For sure, however I do like the touch screen on the 955/Fenix 7 because you can completely disable it in some situations (like in activities).

      Oh man, I have the Venu 2 Plus. The touchscreen can be annoying and its laggy as f**k. That thing is getting returned to best buy. I ended up fliping that for the Forerunner 255 and it was cheaper than that watch. Yikes. No running power output tracking on the venu 2 plus for the price Garmin is asking for is pretty annoying. $450 for that? Oh well, I get to train with the Forerunner 255 soon enough and have all of the data I need to increase my own performance. Yes, I can still use that as a bike computer since I can still hook up speed and cadence sensors, as well as a chest strap heart rate monitor.

    I was gifted a FR255 for Christmas 2023, and I am absolutely loving it... for what I need, this is actually more than enough. Enjoying all the metrics as well. Very worthy upgrade, coming from a Venu SQ 2 which was nice too, but for running, the FR255 is just great. Thanks for all your awesome videos, which helped the decision on this one as well :)

    I just purchased a Forerunner 255 (My Fenix 3HR died after 7 years). You cannot beat the price. You wished that it had touchscreen. I only had one touchscreen GPS watch and I did not like the touchscreen capability. Maybe it is better now but I had troubled navigating through the screens.

    My Garmin Forerunner 935 has been wonderful for almost 5 years. The main "go" button finally failed, so I went shopping. I got the 255 and you have revealed much that I didn't know --- THANKS! The 935 cost about $500 back in 2018, so I'm delighted that I have given up NOTHING with the 255. In fact, it's a step up -- wowsers. Thanks again.

      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому +3

      Pretty solid! The altimeter/baro is confusing to me though. It DOES have it, but it's missing the alti/baro widgets and data fields. Hopefully they add that in a firmware update.

      @@ChaseTheSummit Thank you for sharing the information as that's interesting because whilst it is predominantly aimed at a runner, there are times where you want to go on a walk or a hike and the altimeter and barometer fields would be useful. I'm in the market to upgrade from my 245M and both the 255, the 955 and the 7S are all on my radar for various reasons whether it be screen size or value for money or feature set. But it's you. I'm probably not the only one in a similar dilemma.

    thanks for this video... I just went into my local Garmin shop here in Croatia and swapped my 245 for 255 ( my six months old 245 broke down and instead of receiving a new one in the name of warranty, I decited to pay a little more and upgrade). Main reason being that 255 has open water swimming and thiathlon. Also, screen is a little bigger ( 1.3 vs 1.2 inches on 245). I enjoyed my 245, but now I am excited to explore my new toy... Keep up the good work🙂

    Contrary to what the video states, the Forerunner 255 actually does come with a barometric altimeter built in - or so the Garmin specs says. What's missing - afaik - is the software part of the equation - but that might come in a later update.

    Features that sold me on this watch: battery life. And that's related to the lack of touch screen. A more advanced screen would ask more of the battery. Too bad the colors are so bright on the 255s: that one would probably have worked better with my slim wrists.

    I lost my 245 last year, and replaced it with a used 645. I thought this would be an upgrade, but I was very wrong. I rarely wear the 645 because it's a bit heavy, and it's not responsive at all. I would rather wear a Pebble smartwatch than the 645.
    I pre-ordered my 255 as a birthday present to myself. Having HRV sounds very useful, and the body battery feature with the 245 helped me understand my physical limits in a practical way. I was aiming at getting the Enduro, but I just can't justify spending that much cash on a watch just yet.

    I think the fr 255 and 955 needs to be carried nearly every night and day if you want to take advantage of the analytical features. Everyone should take this into account. Wearing the watch just during training is something complete different than wearing 24 hours a day.
    The size and the weight is very important because of this argument. The smaller, the better. So reading the display is less important than beeing able to wear it the whole day and night.

    • @ChaseTheSummit

    Thinking of upgrading from my Forerunner 25. I don't need the new features, with the one exception that is selling the upgrade for me; the multi-frequency positioning for greater GPS accuracy when competing at my orienteering races in the woods. This seems to be the cheapest Garmin with that feature, and I'd like to stick with a Garmin watch.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому +1

      I left it out because in Garmin's pre-release press documentation it states that the 255 DID NOT have an altimeter. I did notice the barometer port and that the watch was recording the data but I wasn't certain so I decided to omit it from the video. It does have an altimeter but for some reason the data isn't displayed in the watch yet... Maybe in a firmware update?

    Having a 245M all I ever really wanted was a bigger screen and better battery....and maybe an Altimeter for better reviews of trail runs.
    I've considered a Fenix 7S Solar, but this 255 and 955 really tick those "want" boxes at a lower price....the 255 especially (but surely the multi-band GPS will roll out to the Fenix 7 series soon)

    I purchased 255s White version as the black watch is with Pink Wordings.
    The white version comes with the light blue colour.
    Garmin is should have use a red or orange wordings and/or a more universal colour for all watch.
    I have tried 255, and it doesn't fit my small wrist
    Based on the comparison chart between the old version of 245 v. 255 v. 255s.
    The 255s dimension is closer to 245, and it is much lighter than 255.

    The 255 just went on a deep sale lately (USD247) to compete with the Pace 3. It was never on my to-get list before, but now I am very tempted. However, one aspect of the watch that very few reviewers seem to have discussed is real-time pace accuracy. I’ve heard that there can be some delay or even outright inaccuracy. Normally this won’t matter in day to day training, but during a race, it’s quite crucial if one is pursuing a certain finish time. Wonder what your thoughts are on this matter? Thx

  • @AraigumaTV

    Thanks for the great review, Dave! I have a question if I may: You you tell me what the specific features are that set the 255 apart from a "health & lifestyle watch" like the Venu 2? I like the Venu optics a little better but I don't want to miss out on great features with the 255.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому +2

      Mainly the training tools like race predictor, VO2max estimation, training load, training status, recovery advisor and also the fact that the Forerunner 255 has navigation features while Venu 2 does not. In short: If you're training/running the 255 is probably a better option. If you want a nice OLED display and more of an "everyday wellness" tool the Venu 2 is a great choice!

    Really love how Garmin consistently bring some of the newer features down from their higher-end watches to entry-level ones, albeit a little bit later. Just wondering. I'm using an older FR55 exclusively for casual running and I'm loving it. But one thing the watch struggled with consistently was GPS accuracy, because I live and exercise in an area where there's a lot of buildings. How much of an improvement in gps accuracy would the multi-band mode on FR255 make over the older gps modes. Would it be sufficient to justify and upgrade just on that alone?

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 роки тому +3

      If you prioritize GPS accuracy above other features yes... The 255 is way more accurate in even the basic GPS modes. These new multi-band chips are excellent.

      I haven't tried the 255s but I've changed a bit over the years since I often wear big watches for testing. The standard 255 feels really nice and low profile since it's so light. I really don't mind the size. BUT, this is all my opinion your mileage may vary.

      They’re different in that the 255 has more training/fitness tools and longer battery life along with better GPS. The Venu 2 is designed more for daily wellness / gym sessions. If you’re a runner, or cyclist the 255 is probably better. If you’re mainly in the Gym the Venu 2 might be better.
