    Step one: Pay sirvalor $55 to play behind you, concealed by a curtain.
    Step two: dress snazzy and finger your horn.
    Step Three: $245 profit!

    Sir, a week ago, I bought a tenor sax after years and years of playing soprano & alto. I wasn't happy with the standard mouthpiece that came with the sax. And obviously I had a lot of work to do with getting used to the embouchure of the tenor, etc. I then remembered seeing a guy with a metalite mouthpiece, way back when I started playing. I did some YouSearch 😁 and came across your video. And I must say, you convinced me to get and try one. I got mine via courier, yesterday and there is a massive difference in the sound (I'm throwing that standard mouthpiece away 😂) I didn't wanna stop playing, that's how much I love the sound that I get from this mouthpiece. And I'll recommend it to all my students and fellow sax players.
    Thanks for the recommendation, you turned me into a tenor sax player 🙌👌

      Agree, but with my M7, the low notes from low C - low Bb the sound warbles, but when I play my V16 T7 it doesnt warble at all (low B is the hardest) , do u think my sax is leaking, or is it due to the high baffle on the M7?

    • @aidan4473
      @aidan4473 4 роки тому

      Grant Michael I would think it’s a leak. I had a previous tenor sax from my school and I could not get any notes below low C out because someone had almost literally thrown it across the cupboard where students keep their instruments. Idk if that is what happened but I do know it caused a leak because Trevor James saxophones are the most delicate instruments ever. I do not recommend them at all

    Excellent topic!!!
    I love my Selmer Reference 54 tenor and its setup which includes a Yibay #8 mouthpiece (on which you did an episode) and a #3 Legere American Cut #3 synthetic reed. I leave it in my studio. I have a student Selmer tenor in my bedroom. It’s stuffy sounding, especially when comparing it to my primary sax. I have the same mouthpiece setup. What would you recommend to brighten its sound, e.g. metal resonators, a different neck, screws? Thank you!!!

    • @Sirvalorsax
      @Sirvalorsax  3 роки тому

      Metal resonators will help but do you want to spend that much on it? I would also clean out the neck and make sure there are no leaks with the pads. The cheapest route to go is changing reed brands to one's that are brighter for that horn. Which reeds do you use?

      @@Sirvalorsax I have an m5 and an m7 from around 1994-1995. I didn't play them much but they were like 90 bucks each at the time. They were just ...stuffy? I started playing again after 20 yrs and it's still..stuffy. I actually went through college in music on sax and graduated in 2000 to not play seriously again until 2020. I had to make this year worthwhile somehow.

      Thanks! I had the Black nickel, Hotspur, Lady Godiva, Brute VR and now the Dark Amber Lacquer VR. The Lady Godiva really sold me on the VR because it was lighter weight and closer to what the tradtional sax sound is. They stopped making it so I went with the VR. I like very subtle modifications from a manufacturer so I can shape the sound myself without something getting in the way that I can't get rid of. Not to say that the VR is dull in anyway, I just feel like it gets out of the way when I want to shape it how I want.

      Thanks for the reply. I am considering getting a Cannonball Big Bell Stone Series Tenor, again. I had the Brutte BB and the Silver BB. I loved the Brutte at the beginning, but it basically went radiation green on me after about 10 months. Things literally started eroding on the horn. I dug the sound and it played like a mutha...but I sold it and decided to try the silver.That proved to be too much of a pain keeping it clean. I love the sound of the BB's in general...just getting that huge sound. Anyway, I might see if there is another finish on that same model again that interests me, or I might try to find a fat, responsive VR. Any thoughts between the two models? Also, do you think the finish on those horns play a part in the sound?
      Thanks again.
