@@MarceloRamos-uk8cd Most people would assume that the doctor told him to perform oral sex on his wife in order to wake her up. It's obviously not something a doctor would actually recommend, but it almost seems like it could possibly work. The punch line shows that Norm thought he was supposed to make his wife (who was in a coma) perform oral sex on him. It's funny because it's a surprise and is also poking fun at Norm himself. It's ridiculous for him to believe this would wake her up, or that it would even be a reasonable thing to do to an unconscious person. It also plays into a common joke that men are selfish and only like to receive oral sex, not give it. Norm also liked to push the boundary of what could be said on Conan's show, and this joke did that as well. As with most Norm jokes, his delivery is what really makes it funny. The joke by itself is just mediocre.
It’s the little things, like when he says “let me read some of it” then proceeds to read it silently. To himself. In front of an audience. These small details are what separated him from everyone else.
The coma joke might be the hardest, most genuine laugh I've seen out of Conan. He's definitely laughed louder, but the strain he's going through to not just erupt here is palpable. Literally watching this at work and I was doing the exact same thing.

Can you explain the joke?
@@MarceloRamos-uk8cd You'll understand when you're older
The clip with Courtney Thorne-Smith is the best one I can remember. That and the professor of logic bit.

I disagree. Don Rickles and Robin Williams were out of this world. They were and always remain unique. But to each their own. Rip Norm.
I just heard of Norm's passing. Sad, he was truly a unique soul. RIP Norm.
If you haven't seen it, Nathan Fielder's Instagram story on Conan is on par with this one for joyous Conan laughs.
You could see the anticipation in Conan's face just before he delivered the punch line. It looked like he legitimately didn't know where the story was going but he knew it was gonna be good.
Oprah's rant by bill burr on conan is one of the classics
@@jayzenitram9621 I think the anticipation was more so a matter of "I know this joke, and I know the punchline, and I can't believe this son of a bitch is trying this..."

This is one of his great appearances. Conan and Andy both deserve some credit here for playing along and coaxing through the jokes. Worked perfectly and I really doubt it was scripted. They knew enough to let him hammer every punchline.
Do you know what coaxing actually means?
"That's modern medicine for you." One of his great post-punchline throwaways that takes a second to sink in and causes the laughter to re-convulse.

Norm was good friends with Rodney, and Rodney liked to be funny among his friends, so it must be easy to remember how to act like him.
Well it would be impossible to miss if you ever seen Rodney ^^
I mean, I get that Rodney is funny, and I can see the appeal, but when I look at youtube clips of him I just don't laugh, it seems so dated. This is hilarious though. I find that Norm's slower style of building up the punchline is much funnier than slinging punchlines like a machine gun. It's like Rodney goes too quick to even keep up with all of it.
