    Great analysis Jay. I think this is a great ship for those beginning to create a fleet. I have a Perseus for bringing the pain, a liberator for transportation and a pocket carrier. The Liberator has a front ramp and a back cargo door. It can carry equivalent cargo, and can carry more assets. For a med ship, I have an Apollo Medivac. I don’t have a refinery ship. My guess is CIG will always balance a Swiss Army knife modular ship being less capable than multiple specialized ships. I might take your advice and just get a CCU and sit on it because i think the price of this ship is going to go up. Buying the paint was great advice too.

    • @RedJay
      @RedJay  Рік тому +1

      Based on your fleet, yes a swiss army knife ship is a good CCU option, it is limited in scale of ship is just every role except for the matching of Apollos beds. And either way paint is a great buy.

    As a combat ship my advice is ... RUN !
    It would be viable as a combat ship if ... 1) it has armor to compensate it's single S3 shield & 2) it can fit a Anvil Arrow in it's hangar.
    An Arrow will fit in a Carrack, if you don't put the landing gear down. The Galaxy looks like it has much better height clearance.
    The Galaxy has No center rearward facing protection. It might be good for blockaide running as it sits ? Maybe the Q & A will help.
    Ask yourself this question, if a large 32 SCU cargo container can be lifted into the Galaxy, why can't a Spartan ? I know, speculation.

    • @RedJay
      @RedJay  Рік тому

      Spartan would need to fit wheels and all, intersting thought to use standardized larger containers to help figure out if the large class vehicles will fit into new ship designs.
      Hoping arrow will fit, that would offer a great light fighter option for the hangar and cover that blind spot. Q&A should help with both the hangar specifics and things like remote turret usability... and ideally I would like to see a PDS on back of ship.

      Absolutely. Personally I wish that CIG added a larger than mantis QED interdiction module option and a rack of 4 PDS turrets as a fleet support ship as another option, but that is just me speculating on wish list of ships of this class we could use.

  • @vulcan4d

    It is kind of cool but my money is in the Endeavor. It is like a mobile space station! What I hate about the ship design is the focus on how to cripple the ship and not how we can get more out of it. Ships have ass turrets with poor visibility. Cargo or shop bays that are just too small. It is almost like they sit down to plan a ship but brain storm how to cripple it so you pay more money for something else or really question your decision. The Galaxy is target practice for fighters, it needs defense turrets.

    • @RedJay
      @RedJay  2 місяці тому +1

      Polaris is getting upsized turrets as is Tali - by time Galaxy rolls out I wouldn't be suprised if turrets get revised because yes it does need it. Endeavor CCUs are my long term holds by the way - it's a wonderful ship.

    Love the Galaxy! Gonna grab the cargo variant. I hope the manufacturing variant comes out great, and more modules release. As someone with limited funds, a single ship that I can swap modules in and out for seems perfect, and I am an RSI fanboy so the Carrack, Tali, and Catterpillar dont appeal to me. This is perfect. I just hope for atleast 1 turret for pilot dps

    • @RedJay
      @RedJay  Рік тому +1

      Pilot has the missiles and we are talking remote turrets. Someone has already talked with me just now about blade servers to help with those remote turrets - based on the size of the ship at least some of the turrets may be able to be automated!

      @@RedJay oh cool. Shame, where did CIG confirm this?

    • @RedJay
      @RedJay  Рік тому +1

      Blade turret concept has been a long term discussion for all ships - idea is puttin gthem 2 S2 computers on board to work - the specs of computers and remote turret sizes/number is in the brochure. If you are asking if CIG confirmed pilot cannot shoot the remote turret while flying, well they have not, but other ships that have remote turrets do not allow the pilot to operate the turret traditionally. In the case of the Hercules M2 for example the co-pilot can control the chin remote turret. For the Galaxy, the cockpit grows into a mini bridge so to speak with 4 stations to operate, idea likely being when the crew is not split up to operate the module or hangar, most or all of the crew centrally work off the bridge, incentivized with the remote turrets and full stations up there. I strongly encourage you to stop by the Q&A Spectrum thread (linked in description of video) and post up about the pilot weaponry, and also upvote others who brought up the same concern, it will show there is a desire for more pilot controlled weaponry/ help guarantee access to what's there on the concept already - remember, the ship is still concept so there is time for CIG to change things as needed if enough folks ask for it.

    I am hoping that in addition to those modules there is a more general purpose one that would allow the Galaxy to become a true center for a small org. larger orgs could probably have what the need from larger ships or even just multiple galxey ships but a module that can be "general" or exploration use but somewhat worse at everything than the specialized modules would be amazing. For example it could have
    a small medical area with 1 or 2 beds
    a normal refinery (not the heavy duity ones it has)
    a small amount of cargo (50-100?)
    and that would be the whole module or at least close to it. it is in every way worse than using a specialized module for a single task but for an org or group of players it would be much more useful

    • @RedJay
      @RedJay  Рік тому

      Certainly possible, but I think if more modules are announced by CIG in future and the modules keep being niche modules for one type of role then the chances drop for a hybrid module.

    I think for a refueling ship it would be out classed by the odyssey because you would no need a prospector and you can fit a vulkan diagonaly and use that to refuel repair rearm but do not know how rearm would work and before you say it would not fit I have seen it in there granted it is one hell of a tight fit but they did say if it sits it fits.

    • @RedJay
      @RedJay  Рік тому +1

      In some ways yes the Ody just has a bigger hangar and the mining arm, but the refinery was stared on Ody to he hard locked to fuel work and was described as small for sustainment of the ship - so my thoughts are the Galaxy's two refinery lines are not dedicated to just the use for fuel, and would appear to be able to process more of it, so bascially both ships have a role here, with Ody being a larger and more expensive ship but with unique capabilities that only a bigger dedicated (non-modular) ship can offer. Good thoughts!

    As nice as it appears, I think the modularity will be very limiting in the PU. Out in Pyro, or other remote locations, you are fixed to the role you picked after leaving space port. You have no ability to be flexible and do other things. If no med bay, you are very limited in helping others. Carrack or other ships with smaller med bays, have the ability to divert to help others, with a still decent cargo capacity. It looks nice, but I think may get very frustrating unless in larger groups. Smaller modular ships will not be as bad, they will more likely be with larger ships, or very close to space ports to change modules.

    • @RedJay
      @RedJay  Рік тому +1

      The hope is that larger NPC Outposts at least will have facilities to change modules as well, and I would go as forward to say larger player outposts should be added too with the right upgrades to ship services, who knows if or when that will happen.

    Do you believe a Hawk could fit in the rear hanger for search and rescue? It's only 1 metre longer then the pisces 🤞🏻💯if it does Il upgrade to the galaxy from MSR

    • @RedJay
      @RedJay  Рік тому +1

      It is certainly possible, but highly recommend you only upgrade your MSR if you can confirm the fit. Galaxy will be on PTU when it is rolled out, and many players will spawn them so a quick messaging in a seever or two and you will find a Galaxy pilot willing to let you test it out, and that is important! Asking on Spectrum/Discords/Reddit is not as effective as you want to soft test landing yourself and be sure it can be practically done repediately and during normal conditions. Many screenshot landings that are posted up tend to squeeze any which way they can and don't show all the work... and potential damage to the ships... that occured to make it happen. When Herc series was rolled out folks were shooting off wings of 300 series ships just to fit them on the C2 through rear door and then folks who did not look closely at the screenshots were remarking how impressive Herc was as pocket carrier and estimating its capabilities based ok 325a carrying. At any rate, recommend testing first then CCUing to the Galaxy OR picking up a CCU at IAE but not applying it ready to melt CCU if you cannot fit the Hawk. Hope it works out, would be a fun combo!

      I do my best effort to discuss ships and vehicles from the viewpoints of now, near term, and long term. In the case of the Galaxy where it is post Concept (VCA Team wrapped that up back in Aug 2022 per Progress Tracker). Additionally, I am speculating that your 5 year estimate is due to modularity, which historically is not what we have seen in rollout of modular ships. For example, the Carrack, the amazing loaner for Galaxy by the way which is why a few folks are parking their CCU chains in a base Galaxy currently, is a modular ship - as is the Tali. Yet both the Carrack and Tali are in game without their modularity. CIG's solution is to release one version of the ship with Carrack being Cargo Modules in place and Tali having Torp bays in place and at least the ship is in game quicker. Cat is another example, heck technically that is two ships in one yet its sitting in game as a great cargo hauler without its modularity to get the ship in the hands of the backers as soon as possible. If concepts, getting the ship for the absolute cheapest it ever will be and CCU Game/Loaners for now until it is released do not interest you then I get it - but I make content for everyone in the community and do my best to offer good options for everyone (and a good path to move along as the game gets more developed).
