Oh, your anget is gorgeous. I hope you finish it, perhaps with an off white, ecru, not the bright white. Even if you don't frame it, you can enjoy it. Keep us posted as you decide.
I would finish it. I started the Earth Angel at least thirty years ago and this happened to me. I unpicked the discolored threads and believe me there was plenty to pick out! It was well worth the effort. I finished it during COVID and I am so happy I did. It is now hanging in my bedroom which is the place I always picked it hanging. Please don’t throw it out.
You unpicked it?! Part of me really wants to do this but I don’t know if I have it in me lol. You must feel so great having your piece perfectly finished!
If it was me, I'd wash it, see how it looks then make a decision what your next plan will be. If it comes up okay, I'd match the wing colours as close as possible to the existing colours. I'd finish it as lovely memory of all of those past shared experiences. Good Luck. Andrea.
Such a great relaxing channel! I just found you and thoroughly enjoyed your projects. My suggestion is to consider the first Spring project a learning experience rather than a need to complete project. Sounds like it was very worth your attached memories and you have used many learnings to continue your fantastic stitching hobby. Love what you're doing!
I always look forward to your videos!!! Elizabeth Furniss is stunning and I can't wait to see how it turns out! Handworkmaniac also stitches a lot on 56 count. She has used DMC In the past so she may be another person to touch base with :)
Have you considered a rinse using retro clean. Amazon sells it. I think your piece is gorgeous and that is one i have had on my to do list. Keep going and don't give up on it yet!
I agree with finishing the Angel then wash it. If there is any other white stitching use the color that matches best. I’ve never done the higher counts but I believe I heard Nicola talking about using the silks. A certain one, (don’t remember which) because of the tight fit. You might message her or call the Attic. Thank you for sharing.
I wouldn’t toss it or pick it out, because you’d never restitch it. I wonder if ecru would work to make the finishing closer to the change in the white? If nothing else, keep it as a wonderful reminder of your time with your best friend!
I hope you finish it. I’ve been stitching since 1982 and have washed every piece I’ve ever stitched - dish soap & cold water and let it soak a good while. Maybe it will come out or lighten and maybe it won’t. I don’t think any of us are perfect, not even your angel. Maybe she’s had some trials to overcome. Think of the stains as learning & experience on her part. And when she’s finished, make her into a project bag. It won’t stay pristine over time either but every time you use it or look at it, the memories will be there.
I think it looks very Vintage and I would continue with it. It is so beautiful. There is a lot of memories in that piece with you and Samantha. I think she would be crushed if you threw that away or didn't finish it. Maybe just try to match a different floss with it. Happy Stitching.
Hi Arica, I love watching both you and Samantha. I know that this angel is a special piece to you so why not give it a try to salvage? A wash can only help the color variation issue. The color difference when you step back isn't going to be a big deal. Why not pick out the the pink ribbon stitched at the bottom, consider that the bottom of the piece, wash the piece and then put it in a frame? Consider it a vintage memory and a legacy piece from when your love of cross stitch began. Please let us know what you decide to do. Kathy E
Hello, lovely videos and such inspiring work. I think you should finish the lovely angel. Lots of people use different floss colours and experiment. You should too. Have fun. Start small and continue when you feel like it. There are lots of floss colours to make it your own artistic design inspiration. ❤😀☕️🇨🇦
I 100% agree with you about the seasons in life. I hope she continue and finish it. She could also write a little note about her stitching history on it and put the start and finish dates with her ages for a family heirloom. She shouldn't worry about the oils and dirt on it, but finish it. She might inspire others to do the same with their older pieces. ❤
What a lovely comment! I definite may appreciate this and agree with @sheliahumphrey-morris1588 about having a card, that would mean so much in accompanying this piece. Thanks for tuning in ladies and I hope you guys have a lovely weekend!
I would try washing it first just to see if it makes any difference and then reassess. Even if you don’t ever finish it completely, it will still be a piece that holds those treasured memories. 😊
Please finish it…it doesn’t matter that the whites don’t match. That’s how things like old wedding dresses actually age. It’s a perfect memory of your friendship with Samantha ❤
I had something similar happen to the Lavender and Lace The Wedding (which is pretty much all white). Here is what I would do if I were you: first I would carefully remove the tape and serge the edges and then give it a very gentle bath. Then I would reassess how off the colors still look - I suspect those edges of the wings still may be more ecru than white even after washing. If I didn't like how the stitching from that new skein at the bottom of the wings looks I would pull just that out and then find a color that matches the rest of the wings (probably not white - an ecru or 712 maybe?) and stitch any remaining white stitches with that color. I wouldn't worry about it not being white - it honestly looks white until you are holding that skein of white up against it. It looks beautiful as it is - those wings don't need to be white. ❤
Love your lavender and lace parade. I just got back to stitching in February. I haven’t stitched since I was a teen, had only finished a couple small ones. But now I’m obsessed. Stitching any chance I get. Can’t wait for your video on backstitching!
Hi Arica! If it were me, I think I'd just keep right on stitching that angel. For any new white stitches, I'd just find whatever floss most closely matches what you've got stitched on there now - it's kind of nice with the creamy white. I get that it's annoying that there are clear demarcations in the existing stitching, but if you really don't plan to hang it up after then does that really matter? It gives the piece character, and has an interesting story! I can totally understand not wanting to just frog out allll that white, AND not wanting to just re-stitch it from scratch. Those stitches are special memories! Looking forward to hearing what you choose to do with it. :)
Hey sweet lady. I think you should finish your angel. Maybe give it a gentle wash and then see what your white looks like. You could match a dmc like ecru, 712, 822 or even 3865 and make it less obvious. But for the memories alone you should finish it❤ I also think you should consider framing it and guardian angel. They store better that way. Love all your projects. Hugs❤
Please finish the angel. Maybe use a creamier shade rather than the bright white. It is a beautiful memory piece. I would love to have the Mill Hill kit, would like to try one.
Team finish!! It’s a special piece. Maybe find a shade of white that blends better. Finish and then wash. There’s a soap at the quilt store that you can use on antique fabrics. It is actually beautiful with the variations.
I had the Lord's Prayer verses, stitched for my husband's birth in 1955, it was framed and lived in a smoker's house until 1979. I didn't want to use it bc it was yellowed so bad not to mention the smell. Fast forward to 2008, grandchild on the way. I washed the 2 pieces in a bucket of dawn dish soap, gently swoosh around, changing water... they came out beautiful!
So understand your dilemma on your angel. I would be bothered with the whites as well. I say embrace it and find a variegated creamy white that closely matches the already stitched whites so it looks intentional. Happy stitching!
Finish it, find a blend of two dmc's that match the color of the discolored white/ecru or 123Grain form CCW . It will look great! You "personalized" it! You've got to finish this because it is part of your journey!!!!
I agree with the others. Finish it as is as a reminder of all those times. I say this somewhat hypocritically lol. We are of a similar age and I have a large project of a tiger with her cub that I stopped 1/3 of the way through in the late 90's. I have very little projects left from that time but I find that with the recent passing of my Mom, any craft that I worked on back then holds memories. One of these days, I will gather the courage to figure out where I stopped and bring it back into my WIPs.
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. And thanks for sharing your story of the tiger and cubs, perhaps we should finish our pieces together? There’s been a few stitchers with similar pieces 🤔 Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
I would definitely soak it in cold water, dawn soap and peroxide *and perhaps some "Shout” stain remover. Don’t give up on it. Good luck! (I am working on a 30 year WIP … lol! I had to soak it due to cigarette smoke stains. 99% of the stains did rinse out.)
I have a couple of suggestions for your white situation, now I’m new to cross stitch but I’ve been painting for years. So, It’s common for the whites in Oil paintings to yellow when they go into storage and are not exposed to light for a while. However, you can fix it by simply bringing the painting out in a well lit room, you can place it where it will get some indirect light to speed up the process but you can run the risk of bleaching your other colors if you leave it in the sun for a couple of days. So, to avoid that some artists will just leave it in a naturally well lit room or let the painting get some direct/indirect light for several hours and then move the painting back into the still lit room but out of the path if the sun for the rest of the day. This process won’t harm your other colors but it will bring your whites back to white. Now, I don’t know if that will happen with cross stitching but it’s still pigments and it’s a thought. The other thing I was thinking was to leave it as is and very slightly tea dye or how ever you want to dye the floss to gently age it to match. The wing in the back being darker actually works in your favor because it gives you depth. But everything else in the piece not being pure white still reads as white in the piece because it’s the lightest color on the project. Also, I know DMC has several other whites, and maybe trying the whites from Gentle Arts or Classic Color works would help you get to an aged white. I hope this helps!
What??!! I have never heard this before! I wonder if it will work on floss too? You are right it hasn’t seen the sun in years. I’m going to give it a wash and then pop it in the sun! Thank you!!
@@FibersandFlossCanada it’s worth a shot! Now it can take like a week to a month to see the difference in Paintings, so patience with this process. But PLEASE watch your other colors, so don’t put it in direct sunlight. Take every other day or daily photos to check your changes because they will be small. The pictures will help you to track the difference because your brain sometimes won’t be able to remember the changes until it’s a BIG change. This way you can also see if your other colors are starting to change and you need to make adjustments. When you check paints or pastels for lightfastness, you do something similar but you expose a sample card that you made with the color to direct light for 6 months to a year and see if there are any changes. This way you can tell how much and how fast a color will fade and if you want to switch out to a different color.
I am in the same boat with my L&L Fairy Dreams. I think we need to just finish as is and call it a wonderful memory. I so wish I was able to get down on July 6 but unfortunately cannot. Enjoy. I love Nicola Parkman's (Hands across thr sea) flosstube. She has a bunch of teaching videos as well. Another thing to think of is there any over one stitching in that pattern as 56 count would be rough going. I am off to watch your year of dragon video. I don't get much time to watch but will watch in pieces as I can.😊
Im sorry to hear you cant make it on the 6th but im sure we will have lots of other things in the future and we may meet yet! ummm.... there is 1 over 1 on the 56 count... hmmmm i never thought about that... Anyways, thank you for tuning in today and I appreciate you sharing your time with me :)
Arica it was great meeting you and Manvir it was so nice to meet fellow stitches.I think you should try washing the angel and see if it brightens up you have nothing to lose let us know what happens. I am in for July 6 can’t wait!
It was so great meeting you too! Did you know that locality brewing at about 248 and 56? Has an old vintage pasture market that morning… It starts at 10 AM and I think I might go there then head to chitter chatter. You should look online to see if the pasture sale interests you. Thank you for your suggestions on the Angels. I look forward to seeing you on the sixth!
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on this piece, I appreciate them! And you are right, we tend to forget how well baking soda cleans… I hope you get some great stitchy time in this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
I agree, finish the angel- wash it, and maybe use an older skein of white or an ecru (or blend the two!) to match the white that's there as close as you can. I would love to win that Stitcher's Heart!
Oh, I hope you do finish it. It is so beautiful and you are so close. But wash it first so you know what you are dealing with before you pick your final white. And use a *laundry detergent* soak, such as Tide or All, not soap. Big difference between soap and detergent. I don't know if I would frog any of it, since I don't know what you will have after the soak. Best case, you don't have to take out anything and you match the that off white to something. Certainly don't take out the wing at the back. That difference is due to the way the shade landed on that wing, right? Yep!
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. I will start with a gentle soak and if need progress to some good detergent…. Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
It’s like a book you are reading and you know you don’t like the book but you try to keep going… my philosophy is there are too many good books that need to be read so don’t feel guilty about letting it go!! Keep it in your keepsake box or take a picture of it and leave it behind so you can continue to move forward in your stitching journey. You said it yourself, that piece is about the memories of your teen years your first stitching project, the Doritos stain and different colors of white are the important parts of that piece and I think that you actually have a finished piece just the way it is! Store it away with all those great memories; that piece is full of your friendship which, in the same way, is not finished. 😊
Please finish it and leave what’s done. As a much older stitcher I don’t have anything I stitched when I was younger. That angel has many memories of your youth. I wish I still had those items.
I Would use a variegated white like Oatmeal, Picket Fence or Chalk from Gentle Arts. From Weeks you could use Whitewash, White Lightning. Match them up and finish your beautiful piece then gift it to your friend!
I think that you should stitch what you love. If it doesn't fit what you love stitching now, then you shouldn't feel pressured to finish it. I can see that the colour difference is really going to bother you. I'd say that I've finished stitching - and decide what to do with the project as it is. Try washing it - to see if the whites even up - to the point you're happy with it. And then make it into a project bag or folder - just as it is. So you have the happy memories when you look at the bag. And you can spend your stitching time doing what makes you happy now.
Maybe u can cut out & put on a project bag as a memory stitch! I love a good heart!!! Get ahold of Jean at the attic shop in Arizona she does a lot of 56 ct stitching !
I am working on 46 with 100/3 and find the coverage to be full. I had tried dmc and it was a bit too hard for me to easily get the thread through the linen threads but doable. Can’t imagine 56 count based on my experience. I’d probably go with 46 and especially if there is any over one stitching. Also I believe that Katie Strachan just did the huge MFE sampler on 56 count and might be good to reach out to her too. I believe she used Soie surfine.
Thank you for your comment. I did sample it but found the dmc was fraying. I have since ordered the 100.3 which should work well on the 56 per nicola parkman and the attic :) Happy stitching!
I would wash the piece first and see if it helps the whites. But I don’t think I would finish it. I would leqve it the way it is as a reminder of something started long ago that you loved. I love the Maple Leaf Montage pattern. I’m so curious to hear what info she has on the back.
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on this piece, I appreciate them! I will be sure to share the maple leaf info next video as I’ll be starting it for July 1st! I hope you get some great stitchy time in this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
I wouldn't finish it...life is too short, especially if you are not going to frame it. Just keep it in your keepsake box to remind you of the happy times you spent stitching.....❤
I think you should finish your Angel project and keep it as a memory piece. I love the suggestion that someone made to pick a new thread that matches the discoloured white stitches in order to finish the white areas.
About that decision wheel-I recently added that to my daily stitching, and I have found that I can absolutely see how I feel about a project when it’s called. Life is too short to stitch on things that you aren’t excited about! Edit your wheel and only include the projects you genuinely want to shuffle through right now. ❤
I don’t know why I didn’t even think to stitch with a color closer to the current color…. Although over time I wonder if the current floss will discolor even more leaving me in the same predicament? Thank you for tuning in this morning :)
Obviously completing your Lavender and Lace is the overwhelming response and I agree because the memories are precious. One thought I had was to tea dye the whole piece when it’s finished or use the Tim Holtz ageing spray.
I would cut it down and make it into a project bag leaving the wonderful memories intact. A little discoloration/soil means it’s well loved and used, like your favorite stuffy that you had when you were a kid. I love your wonderful video content and your voice is always so pleasant and kind
Love your progress on your wips. Please finish her, she is gorgeous. I would not add the rest of the white on the bottom, so it is not so obvious. Happy stitching! Love
Just looked at the Hats website with the linen and silk recommendations for their latest Queen of the May sampler (thinking this is likely to have the most up to date information). They recommend using one strand of DMC only for 40-46 count. 56 count only has silk recommendations. I suspect that the full coverage areas - like the grass and the house - may end up distorted with the DMC floss size. *If* you are going to spend the time investment to stitch this on 56 *and* the $$$ for the silks - I'd also spend the $$$ for really good linen. Nicola Parkman had a really good review of what was available after Nashville market on her flosstube. And talked about one dyer who checked for slubs and imperfections before dyeing - so was really high quality.
On the Lavender & Lacie I think that you should try to find a matching floss for the majority of the wings & only remove the ends where they are very dark. I just love watching your floss tubes! They are great.
I had stains on a nearly finished piece from 30 years ago and I just finished it and I washed it several times and soaking it in Dawn and Oxyclean. It worked! All is clean. You can restitch or cover the difference of colors with metallic blends.
Hello Arika - I would love to see you finish it! Fabrics and threads age and give a fabulous vintage look, like your Spring Angel. Perhaps a creative FFO would be the answer to truly treasuring a piece that holds so many memories and hard work - under glass on a round tabletop, for the cover of a special book of memories or as a pillow for your first grandchild’s bedroom. You are so creative I’m certain a great idea will come to you. But the piece is gorgeous and worthy of finishing. Happy Stitching 🧵🪡 Jacque🐑
Ah Jacque! Thank you for finding the time to tune back in today :) The troubles we face with silly first world problems such as these. Thank you for your thoughts and i plan on giving it a good wash and reassessing at that point. Happy stitching!
OMG, the look on your face after the first WIP that Wheel spin was priceless! I know I’ve heard Nicola Parkman recommend 103’s and one other brand I can’t recall for stitching on higher counts, so I would wait and order the silks, and I would use the fabric you have, it is beautiful and if a bit of darker flax shows, it will add character. Trust me, when you reach my age it is doubtful you will be stitching on 56 count, so do it now! I think it would be wonderful to finish the Angel since you are so close, but maybe use a variegated off white/ecru or something that matches the faded white color a little better than today’s stark white. You could even coffee tea dye the finished piece. But, I totally understand your dilemma with it, and to be honest, if it were me, I know I would keep it, but not finish it. I wish I was local and could join your stitching party!
Thanks for tuning back in Karen! And thank you for sharing all your thoughts. I have sampled the DMC on the 56 and well it’s OK. I would be concerned about that full coverage grass part at the end as the DMC I find hen to fray if it’s tightly woven… And of course if Nicola says 103s then maybe that’s what I should do - I do love Nicola! Thank you for sharing all your thoughts with me today and I hope you get in some wonderful stitching time. 🧵🪡☀️
I’d finish as is. It’s beautiful and a memory of all that special time. My first stitch has white that discolored over 18 years of rarely pulling it out. I finished it and love it because it’s what I chose to learn when my Grannie taught me. Yours kinda blends in and I’d totally finish it!
Oh I love your bit of a story you shared, that is special! I hope I can reach my grandchildren one day :) thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the Angel
I would not finish the angel, your stitching time is precious and should be spent on something you love to stitch. I would give it a gentle wash, and make it into a project bag to keep the memories alive ❤
You need to finish it, it is absolutely beautiful even though there is discoloration of the floss. That’s what happens with age. It holds to many memories of your love of cross stitch and the love of your life long friendship with Samantha not to finish it. Everything you do is so beautiful, you have so much talent. You made me laugh with the expression on your face when you spun the wheel both times. My husband gave a a weird look because of the look on my face. I’m still laughing. I do love watching all of your videos. I’ve learned so much from you and I will going back and watch your tutorials. Have a great rest of your week and I’m looking forward to your next FlossTube ❤❤❤
Awww thank you Pauline for those kind comments 😊 and im happy to hear you got a good laugh out of that, I mean what were the chances given we just spoke at length about Elizabeth furniss?! Anyways ;) Thanks for tuning in and sharing your opinion on the Angel
I agree with many of the comments about finishing the L&L piece. Another idea I haven’t seen yet would be to wash the Guardian Angel piece that is finished to see how the discolored floss in that piece react to washing. Having that information might help you decide what technique would be best to get the results you’re looking for. Good luck and I’m looking forward to hearing your decision.
These stories are precious as are the pieces. With your Angel of Spring, I think I would try washing it first and then finding the least bright white shade you can and carry on until it's finished. The difference in your stitches will show your youth and the memories that are associated with the piece, you will also have new memories added to the piece. Another option may be that you create some kind of "album" that you can put all your pieces that you don't want on the wall in, that way you can pull them out and see all your wonderful pieces. Then you can place it in as it is with it's story. I have a similar dilemma with a Mirabilia that I started in 1999, my white is not stained but for some reason over the years I took all of the flosses out of the project folder, in having said that some of them are probably still in my stash! I fell in love with the Winter Rose chart and now it's on it's way to me lol Sorry for the essay but I enjoy your videos greatly, so Thankyou for sharing x
Thank you so much for continuing to tune in and taking the time to connect with me here. I appreciate your thoughts on the angel and i am happy to hear winter rose is on its way to you! Happy stitching :)
Hi Erica! Perhaps you may try restitch over the yellowish withe with one floss of white.... I don't know if it will work. Or you can stitch it over with ecru. It will be an angel with ecru wings! You may also try to wash it, but I avoid to wash a wip before it is finished, as the fabric may shrink. If the stitching over doesn't work I would ditch the angel. You have the special memories if you finish it or if you don't. Thank you for your flosstubes and Happy Stitching!
I’m no cross stitch expert but what about getting an over dyed cream with variegation to finish it off so there would be variation throughout all of the “white” areas?
The thirty year old lavender and lace is beautiful. I sure hope you can finish it despite the aging with the white floss. And I have stitched on 56/63 with silk floss from bestitchme, and that floss was thick. It did shred a bit, but it was still a beautiful finish. For 46 count and above I’d stick with a 100.3 or above so that it won’t be squishy, and all of the detail comes out clear. But if you are going to stitch with the DMC, go for it on like 36 count and below. Always grateful for your channel, and I think it is also neat that you are reaching out to your local community too. I hope lots of stitchers show up for your event.
Thank you for tuning in and taking the time to comment here. I have gone ahead and ordered the 100.3 silks and we will see how it goes. Thank you for the kind comments about the channel and i also hope many stitchers show up next week. Happy Stitching!
@@FibersandFlossCanada (insert happy dance) I’m so glad you will give it a try. I love it on the higher count fabric. And it’s a beautiful bright finish too. Now I want to stitch what you are stitching too. I hope your even is full of friends and stitching too, Noel
Right?! Some ppl must think I’m crazy but if ever went to a bush party as a teen you can def appreciate the fun not to mention the stark contrast between that and cross stitch lol! Thanks for tuning in today and happy stitching 🧵🪡
Ages ago I stitched Angel of the Sea for my sister. I put my nephew and nieces names on it like a birth sampler sort of. My nephew will be 21 in September my niece will be 18 in a couple weeks. All of your projects are beautiful Arica.
Gifts like that are so very precious and to think they will be treasured for many more years, although I think at that age the teens/young adults won’t truly appreciate them again until 30+ years of age!
Thank you for finding me. I hope you’ve enjoyed the episode today and will watch some others… Nice to meet you and I hope you enjoy some stitching time this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
That piece is gorgeous! I would try to go and look at all the flosses that are 'off white', there are many!! Try and match the best you can do! I would finish it because it is a special piece!
Hi Arica, I am new to your channel and love your episodes. For the angel, it sounds like your heart is really not into it at this time, but I would go ahead and give it a good wash just to see if it helps with the discoloration of the floss. You never know! It may help and then you may be inspired to finish it.
I love seeing the progress on your dragon. The Lavender and Lace finishes are so beautiful. I also think that you should finish the angel just the way it is without taking out any of the stitching. I like the antique look.
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your opinion. I do have to agree. It is not a good idea to frog it because then you lose the history in the peace yet the perfectionist in me is not satisfied with that either lol talk about a first world problem… Anyways, happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
With the angel, ild wash it then decide from there, keeping it as it is will still hold the memories, you may pick it up again years to come and decide differently then. Stitch what you love ❤Xx
Wonderful visit! Really enjoyed the walk down the L&L memory lane. As far as your angel piece goes: Why the heck didn't you use this in your round robin?! It would have been a hoot to have Samantha stitch on it for you. LOL. But, seriously, my recommendation is to first give it a long soak (in Ivory dishwashing liquid) and see what happens. If you're still truly unhappy with it afterwards, lovingly return it to storage with a word of thanks for the fond memories. If you want to return to it someday in the future, it will be waiting. If not, there are many, many other pieces calling your name. As for the Ukrainian eggs, don't unpick anything. Don't fuss and mess it up. It looks spectacular as is. Elizabeth Furniss: If you really want to use the 56 count, use the 100.3 silks. If you stick with DMC, switch to 40 count. (Check out Olivia at Pumpkin Hollow Quilts's finish on 40 count Bees Knees by Seraphim Fabrics using DMC. It's gorgeous.) BTW, I literally LOL'd when that demon wheel picked Elizabeth F. then the full-¹coverage montage. Have fun! 😆
Thanks for tuning in and taking the time to share all your thoughts here. I agree with all of them. I have actually ordered the 100.3s! I cannot wait for them to arrive, I’m just dying… Happy stitching 🧵🪡
Erica, if you are truly unhappy with the lace discoloration soak it in Dawn detergent for oily stains. For discoloration of the white floss, soak it in Nellies Oxygen Brightener for a number of hours. Personally I like the antique look of the piece. I love Lavender and Lace and Miriabilia. All of their patterns are awesome.
The more I’m reading peoples comments I am realizing that it is perhaps more of an antique look and it’s not so bad. Maybe I will come around to it yet. Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts :)
What if you stitched a monochromatic on the 56 count with silk? Something like a red sampler. The Attic in Arizona could offer advice on silk and red samplers. They do a lot of 56 count stitching and carry tons silks.
Love. I think you should scrapbook angel of spring-watch Laura from Stitching by the shore. Then you can still treasure it but the finishing cost and time goes way down. If you haven’t worked on it for 28 years, do you really think you’ll still want to finish it? There is a reason you tucked it away. But don’t throw it out! If you have a memory box from that time period when you did work on it, you could stuff in there with a little note attached too. Good luck!
Oh, your anget is gorgeous. I hope you finish it, perhaps with an off white, ecru, not the bright white. Even if you don't frame it, you can enjoy it. Keep us posted as you decide.
Oh thank you! that is the plan i think... Thanks for tuning in today and happy stitching!
You were very adventurous to stitch an angel like at age fifteen.
You unpicked it?! Part of me really wants to do this but I don’t know if I have it in me lol. You must feel so great having your piece perfectly finished!
Or totally naive lol!
Finish stitching the wing in ecru and make a project bag out of it.
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the Angel of Spring
If it was me, I'd wash it, see how it looks then make a decision what your next plan will be. If it comes up okay, I'd match the wing colours as close as possible to the existing colours. I'd finish it as lovely memory of all of those past shared experiences. Good Luck. Andrea.
I agree 100% Thank you for taking the time to tune in and share your thoughts on the Angel. Happy stitching!
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. Good luck in the draw and Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
I love your flosstube. Thank you for making it.
Thanks for tuning in and good luck on the draw! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Arica, the L&L angel would make a great project bag. Finish it with whatever shade of white you think fits her now.
Thank you for tuning in and for your advice. Happy stitching!
I always look forward to your videos!!! Elizabeth Furniss is stunning and I can't wait to see how it turns out! Handworkmaniac also stitches a lot on 56 count. She has used DMC In the past so she may be another person to touch base with :)
Thank you so much! I have solved the Furniss issue and i cannot wait to start her! Thanks for watching Sarah and taking the time to connect with me :)
Have you considered a rinse using retro clean. Amazon sells it. I think your piece is gorgeous and that is one i have had on my to do list. Keep going and don't give up on it yet!
Yes I have but I think it could be too aggressive and I worry about fading the other colors which aren’t fully stitched
Finish the angel as a reminder that life is not always perfect but walk it with grace
Love this! Thank you for tuning in today and sharing your lovely advice ❤️
Those are some good suggestions - thank you for sharing them and thank you for tuning in! Happy stitching this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
I wouldn’t toss it or pick it out, because you’d never restitch it. I wonder if ecru would work to make the finishing closer to the change in the white? If nothing else, keep it as a wonderful reminder of your time with your best friend!
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on this piece, I appreciate them! I hope you get some great stitchy time in this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts. I will definitely give it a wash and I think I need to finish it!
I think it looks very Vintage and I would continue with it. It is so beautiful. There is a lot of memories in that piece with you and Samantha. I think she would be crushed if you threw that away or didn't finish it. Maybe just try to match a different floss with it. Happy Stitching.
Thank you for taking the time to connect here by watching and commenting, i really appreciate it. Happy stitching!
Kathy E
Thank you for tuning in and share your thoughts on this piece. I never considered repositioning the piece and framing it 🤔 Happy stitching!
Hello, lovely videos and such inspiring work. I think you should finish the lovely angel. Lots of people use different floss colours and experiment. You should too. Have fun. Start small and continue when you feel like it. There are lots of floss colours to make it your own artistic design inspiration. ❤😀☕️🇨🇦
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
Definitely finish it! The different shades will be like tree rings showing the different seasons of your life and friendship and stitch journey
That’s exactly what I’m going g to do :) thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Please finish it…it doesn’t matter that the whites don’t match. That’s how things like old wedding dresses actually age. It’s a perfect memory of your friendship with Samantha ❤
Love this comment - thank you!!
Great Video and I Love your stitching and projects
Thank you for tuning in and good luck on the draw!
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece, I appreciate the time it takes to share them :) Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
Love your lavender and lace parade. I just got back to stitching in February. I haven’t stitched since I was a teen, had only finished a couple small ones. But now I’m obsessed. Stitching any chance I get. Can’t wait for your video on backstitching!
How fun! What have you selected as your first piece to stitch now??
Finish it! Try one thread of Ecru and one of maybe 3865. It will be lovely!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for tuning in :) happy stitching!
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece, there’s lots there to consider. Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
❤❤❤ you can give it a wash and figure out some pretty lace to represent clouds ☁️ add it in the bottom and frame it 😅
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts on the angel. Some lace would be beautiful and something different!
Hey sweet lady. I think you should finish your angel. Maybe give it a gentle wash and then see what your white looks like. You could match a dmc like ecru, 712, 822 or even 3865 and make it less obvious. But for the memories alone you should finish it❤
I also think you should consider framing it and guardian angel. They store better that way. Love all your projects. Hugs❤
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. I will definitely start with a wash :) Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
I would finish it, you could use cream instead of white or look for a cream/ white over dye to use.
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your suggestions. Happy stitching.🧵🪡☀️
I think you should finish it as well. Plus I have the Canadian Flag cross stitch just pulled it out to work on it thanks for the reminder😅😅😊😊
Seriously??!! That’s so awesome :) have you started it?? Thanks for tuning in today and I hope you have a wonderfully sunny weekend! ☀️☀️☀️
Please finish the angel. Maybe use a creamier shade rather than the bright white. It is a beautiful memory piece. I would love to have the Mill Hill kit, would like to try one.
Thank you, I will. Thanks for tuning in and good luck in the draw!
Team finish!! It’s a special piece. Maybe find a shade of white that blends better. Finish and then wash. There’s a soap at the quilt store that you can use on antique fabrics. It is actually beautiful with the variations.
Thanks for the encouragement and for tuning in today. Happy stitching 🧵🪡
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your story. I’m happy to hear they turned out well :) I hope you get some great stitchy time in this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
So understand your dilemma on your angel. I would be bothered with the whites as well. I say embrace it and find a variegated creamy white that closely matches the already stitched whites so it looks intentional. Happy stitching!
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
I would was the angel and try and finish it as the same time as your friend ❤
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on this piece, I appreciate them! I hope you get some great stitchy time in this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
Finish it, find a blend of two dmc's that match the color of the discolored white/ecru or 123Grain form CCW . It will look great! You "personalized" it! You've got to finish this because it is part of your journey!!!!
Thanks for tuning in today and sharing your thoughts :)
99% of the stains did rinse out.)
really?? that is promising! Thank you for tuning in and sharing your success! happy stitching :)
@@FibersandFlossCanada that very cool I am definitely coming to the pasture sale!
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on this piece, I appreciate them! And you are right, we tend to forget how well baking soda cleans… I hope you get some great stitchy time in this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
It’s ok to let things go that don’t bring you joy. It took me many years to learn this.
Very true and i agree that’s a though one to learn! Thanks for tuning in and I hope you have a lovely weekend!
@@FibersandFlossCanada thank you, you as well.
I agree, finish the angel- wash it, and maybe use an older skein of white or an ecru (or blend the two!) to match the white that's there as close as you can. I would love to win that Stitcher's Heart!
Thank you for taking the time to tune in and share your thoughts on the angel, happy stitching!
Another person to ask about DMC and 56 count would be Jean Lea at Attic Needleworks in Mesa Arizona. She stitches on 56 count A LOT 😁
Thank you for the suggestion :) I have been in touch with the attic and Nicola - I have a plan now!
Instead of using the new white, maybe you can change the floss color to a closer match to what is already stitched.
I am thinking of that. First up, a good soak. Thank you for taking the time to tune in and share your thoughts :)
Please finish it and leave what’s done. As a much older stitcher I don’t have anything I stitched when I was younger. That angel has many memories of your youth. I wish I still had those items.
That is such a great advice! Thank you so much :)
I Would use a variegated white like Oatmeal, Picket Fence or Chalk from Gentle Arts. From Weeks you could use Whitewash, White Lightning. Match them up and finish your beautiful piece then gift it to your friend!
Thank you for taking the time to tune in and share your thoughts on the pieces and suggestions of colors - it means a lot to me :)
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
Maybe u can cut out & put on a project bag as a memory stitch! I love a good heart!!! Get ahold of Jean at the attic shop in Arizona she does a lot of 56 ct stitching !
Great idea!! I called the attic and we have sorted out the 56 ct issue :) Thanks for taking the time to tune in today and comment :)
Oh Erica finish it !!! It's a beautiful memory of early years with Samantha&your life long love of crossstitch❤
Very true! Thanks for tuning in today Anne :)
Finish it but match the discolored white with a current shade, ecru cream. You're bound to find a match that blends 😊 Love ❤
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
Love your channel. So much inspiration. Love seeing the lavender and lake early pieces. Such treasures.
Thank you! My style has certainly changed since stitching those but even reviewing those makes me want to stitch another!
All good thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to watch and connect with me here, happy stitching :)
I think you should finish your Angel project and keep it as a memory piece. I love the suggestion that someone made to pick a new thread that matches the discoloured white stitches in order to finish the white areas.
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
About that decision wheel-I recently added that to my daily stitching, and I have found that I can absolutely see how I feel about a project when it’s called. Life is too short to stitch on things that you aren’t excited about! Edit your wheel and only include the projects you genuinely want to shuffle through right now. ❤
Now there is a thought! Thanks for tuning in and happy stitching :)
I would definitely finish your piece. Maybe make it into a project bag. It is a great way to preserve all the memories attached to it. Love
Thats a great idea! Thank you for tuning in and taking the time to share your suggestion. Happy stitching!
I’d try washing it with Dawn dish detergent. If that doesn’t help, try using a floss color closer to the color of the wings and ditch the white.
Huh, I haven’t heard of that but I will look into it :) thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece :)
I would cut it down and make it into a project bag leaving the wonderful memories intact. A little discoloration/soil means it’s well loved and used, like your favorite stuffy that you had when you were a kid. I love your wonderful video content and your voice is always so pleasant and kind
awww thank you for the kind comment and taking the time to connect with me here by viewing and commenting - it means a lot to me. Happy stitching!
Love your progress on your wips. Please finish her, she is gorgeous. I would not add the rest of the white on the bottom, so it is not so obvious. Happy stitching! Love
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. I will go check out that video, I don’t think I’ve seen that one… Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
On the Lavender & Lacie I think that you should try to find a matching floss for the majority of the wings & only remove the ends where they are very dark. I just love watching your floss tubes! They are great.
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. I’m happy to hear you have been enjoying the videos :) Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
I had stains on a nearly finished piece from 30 years ago and I just finished it and I washed it several times and soaking it in Dawn and Oxyclean. It worked! All is clean. You can restitch or cover the difference of colors with metallic blends.
Great thoughts, thank you! Another person suggested the same with blending filament and i think that’s a great idea! Happy stitching this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
I would not change the stitches. Just keep going!
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on this piece! I hope you get some great stitchy time in this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts :) I hope you get some great stitchy time in this weekend!
Thanks for tuning in today Judy. Figuring out what to do will definitely be a bit of an adventure!
I think it is absolutely beautiful! You should finish it. You kept it for all these years so it must hold a special place in your heart.
Yes it definitely does hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for tuning in today and sharing your time with me this morning….
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on this piece, I appreciate them! I hope you get some great stitchy time in this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
I’m no cross stitch expert but what about getting an over dyed cream with variegation to finish it off so there would be variation throughout all of the “white” areas?
That’s a good suggestion! Thanks for tuning in today :)
I hope your even is full of friends and stitching too,
Noel
BUSH PARTIES were the best! I lived in McBride, BC and you bought back so many memories
I would try taking one strand of off white/ecru floss and going over the old stitching and see if it helps blend it all better.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for tuning in. I hope you have a great weekend! ☀️
I love the little Love Stitching pattern. Thank you.
Thank you for tuning in and good luck on the draw!
Finish it!!! Looks elegant and antiqued!
Thanks you! I hope you get some good stitching time in this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
The EGGS! Wow! They are so cool. Maybe a pillow for the spring angel, unfinished with the dates you worked on it. Just to keep and look at. -C
The eggs are really so much fun! You guys should try some canvas work ;)
I have recently found your channel and I absolutely love it! Thank you!
Yes it would be good to try to complete it but there’s so much to contemplate 🤔 Thank you for tuning in today :)
Hi Arica, I am new to your channel and love your episodes. For the angel, it sounds like your heart is really not into it at this time, but I would go ahead and give it a good wash just to see if it helps with the discoloration of the floss. You never know! It may help and then you may be inspired to finish it.
Welcome and Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
Love your videos. I’ve learned so much.
Thanks for tuning in and have a wonderful weekend ☀️
That's the plan! Thank you for taking the time to tune in and share your thoughts - it means a lot to me. Happy stitching!
Always a joy too watch ! Thank you
Thanks for turning in and have a great weekend!
Wonderful visit! Really enjoyed the walk down the L&L memory lane. As far as your angel piece goes: Why the heck didn't you use this in your round robin?! It would have been a hoot to have Samantha stitch on it for you. LOL. But, seriously, my
recommendation is to first give it a long soak (in Ivory dishwashing liquid) and see what happens.
It's gorgeous.)
BTW, I literally LOL'd when that demon wheel picked Elizabeth F. then the full-¹coverage montage. Have fun! 😆
Thanks for tuning in and taking the time to share all your thoughts here. I agree with all of them. I have actually ordered the 100.3s! I cannot wait for them to arrive, I’m just dying… Happy stitching 🧵🪡
You should finish it! Wash it and it may be that the white comes out a little whiter! It does hold many memories and it is your first!
Very true! It’s headed for a bath then a reassessment :) Thanks so much for tuning in!
Finish it. Find a colour that matches it and finish it. Doesn’t have to be a brilliant white. You got this.
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on this piece, I appreciate them! I hope you get some great stitchy time in this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
That’s a good idea. I’d love to stitch a monochromatic long dog one day! Thanks for tuning in and I hope you have a great weekend 🧵🪡☀️
@@FibersandFlossCanada A Long Dog would be fun!
Good luck!
Thank you for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on the piece. You have some good points and I will have to check out Laura. Happy stitching 🧵🪡☀️
Wash it and see whether you can get a hand dyed white with the mixture of whites in. 😊
Oh that’s a good suggestion too and one I never thought of. Thanks so much for tuning in this morning
Cut the face out and make a Christmas ornaments. That way you have the memory and you don't have to see the wings. Happy stitching.
An ornament is my back up plan if I can clean it up well enough first. Thank you for tuning in, happy stitching :)
The difference in whites just looks like it was designed that way. It's beautiful!
Thanks for tuning in and sharing your thoughts on this piece, I appreciate them! I hope you get some great stitchy time in this weekend 🧵🪡☀️
