I don't understand why anyone would be proud of a country where so many people do not have access to healthcare without going bust, or a place where millions of people get 0 days paid leave, as a a European it sounds semi dark age.

Why do you insist on guarantees in a world of scarcity?
Why do you advocate enslaving doctors for your own benefit? From where does your right to a doctor’s labor come?
Why is it your employer’s responsibility to make sure you can have paid leave? Since when can people get paid for not working?
Liberals make me laugh. Calling anyone who disagrees with their social engineering schemes selfish while demanding guarantees in a world where there isn’t any.
It is nothing but bought votes with stolen money and broken promises.

Because it has nothing to do with healthcare or government benefits. It’s the idea of America and what America is supposed to be that we’re proud of. Government staying out of our lives and pockets because they’re crooks and neglectfully spend 95% of our money in ways that do not help us whatsoever, while trying to convince us we need them so we can vote them in and fatten their pockets along with their family and friends. The fact that America was created by successfully fighting off taxation without representation. None of us are proud of or happy with what’s going on now with our overreaching underperforming government. The pride we have refers to what those before us have sacrificed fighting for our freedom from the government, and for some of the few valuable rights we do have left which are constantly being fought to be stripped away from us.

I think Standhope loves the country, but he is pointing out how dumb people can be. There is a difference in patriotism and nationalism, you can love your country without condemning other countries. Immigration is what makes this country great and I agree that it should be done in legal channels instead of border hopping, however to say illegals are taking all the jobs is ignoring corporations sourcing out work to less developed countries for cheaper labor so shareholders can get their bag.

stanhope is my favorite. he takes a lot after carlin and hicks. a lot of his sets are improv and not really planned out, he'll typically go on stage with a few general premises for material and just wing it. but when he's doing a special that's mostly material that he's written and practiced, which is something he doesn't usually do. that's why it's awesome to go see him live because that's when he's most in his "natural habitat", and he says he gets uncomfortable on camera. his specials are never as good as his live sets.

    • @irollerblade13

Doug is in my top 10 people that are alive. I've seen him live twice; once shortly after he released a special and he had written notes and he still killed.
I loved his first book Digging Up mother. I read it when while in rehab for alcohol (self admitted) im sure you can guess how that went after I left. 😅
People either get Doug or they don't because they live in a complete different lifestyle in their head so his jokes aren't always relatable.

I personally believe that nationalism and patriotism are fear-based. I'll never forget all the flags that came out right after 9-11. Never saw so many at once in my life (I'm 69). And what I sensed from most of the people flying them wasn't love of country - I sensed fear. Fear. The US had never come under attack on its own soil in modern history and people were afraid of...they didn't know what.

I am glad you reacted, I hadn't heard of him and it will be interesting to see his take on some other topics, I suspect there will be some gems there. BUT, I think reacting to these things that start getting political is risky. I haven't been into watching reactions all that long so don't fully understand the typical natural progression. But at least a couple I noticed.... interesting and fun reactions when it was about music, movies and the like, but then they got into stuff that was a little political or contentious.... Before long, that became the theme and they were coming off more as a political pundit than an interesting, fun, neutral reactor. There is too much division out there, I think when people start detecting it many will walk away, an many reactors don't even know what they are doing until they have gone down a rabbit hole that will label them.

Libertarians are cool and Standhope is my favorite I think. They lose me when they start talking about abolishing the IRS and going back to the gold standard. Outside of his left-wing views he's pretty funny. Constantly shiting on people who actually care about their country and who stand up for those values isn't a good personality trait and I don't have respect for those type of beta males. His type of politics and the people he backs for political office is the reason why we're in the situation we're in now. Don't insert politics into your comedy if you don't want people to point out your ass backwards way of thinking. And actually try to be funny if you want to call yourself a comedian.
