That was really helpful. This is the easiest method to move the folder. So many other tutorials were very complicated, but this one was easy to follow. Thanks!
How do you create a link to the folder when you said to delete the original folder? Do you mean to delete everything located inside the sims 3 original folder so its empty but still have a sims 3 folder in your documents in order to create a junction?
copy the original sims 3 doc folder that's located in > Documents>Electronic Arts and paste it on the drive your game is installed on. Right click And click more options then pick link source. Go back to Documents>Electronic Arts and delete the original Sims 3 doc folder. Electronic Arts folder will be empty now, right click and more options>Drop as>Junction. The Sims 3 doc will now be mirrored and the pc will think it's still there. I know the video is a bit confusing, sorry. It's an old one :/
Origin and EA have always been really screwy, not just with financial overcharges. No problems with that in Steak downloads whatsoever, just archaic, un-thinking Origin and EA. I purchased an external 8TB external drive recently. Moved something like 30 pretty damn large Steam titles in maybe a grand total of 25 hours. The Sims 3, The Sims 4, and Need for Speed tiles---major roadblock. I have been trying to use MKLINK/J commands and that is not working. It is almost like trying to solve Dark Matter equations with a basic understanding of Physics.
omg that sounds heavy, alot to get setup. I feel like I need an 8tb pretty soon myself tbh. Have you considered just moving yr documents to that new drive instead? Much easier way to go. Unless you have programs strictly dependant on it being on yr c:drive And I have to appologize because this is such an old video and I haven't made an updated one yet explaining all this
Following this guide helps you to mirror your documents folder to a different location. It is useful for some people to do it this way for reasons like if they move their documents folder it might mess up other programs. Something you can do instead is just move yr doc folder to a different drive if that’s what you’re after, instead of creating a mirror link. Something I should have explained in the video, so sorry about confusion
Once you’ve made a new folder and copied your docs folder, then delete the original one, the folder then exists in the new location Then you create the junction in which creates a mirror in the original place it was by following the instructions. It mirrors yr docs folder in your new location to the original place and tricks yr computer in thinking it’s still there.
I tried to doo this today following your video and I guess I did something wrong because my mods folder and saves were not there and when I open the game and exit there is a new sims 3 folder on my c drive. Can you help me
Did you backup yr sims 3 folder first? Are you using windows? You may be able to go back to a restore point. Please always back up and always create a restore point on yr computer
@@KozyKubGam3r No unfortunately I forgot to backup the folder it was on my mind and I didn't create a restore point smh. I have created backups since but its after the fact so now I'm just trying to figure what to do. thanks for responding its just been one of those days for two days lol
This method is mostly for people who can’t move their documents folder because it would mess up other programs that rely on it being on the c drive. But if you can move the doc folder instead of creating a mirror link, it’s a much easier option. It’s super annoying that you have to do this for sims 3 but it’s because it’s such an old game

Hi Nicole, just create a new folder on your desktop, call it Documents. Go to your original documents that you want to move. Right click, select properties>location>Move, select your new folder on your desktop> Select Folder> Apply> Select Yes to recommend moving all of the files > ok and done ✅ your electronic arts folder will move automatically with documents folder.
Thanks for the tutorial. My only question is will I be able to play my saves on a new computer if i take out the drive i copied the doc folder on and use that drive on a new computer ?
If you have your sims 3 doc with all your saves on that particular drive and as long as you install sims 3 on the same drive, you should be fine yes. But make sure to back up your sims 3 doc on a different drive as well just in case something happens. I have my saves backed up on 3 different drives lol! Just because I've endured the pain of losing precious families in the past:(

So to sum up, I'm basically copying and pasting my Documents folder and the installed EPs and SPs folders into my external drive? I'm a bit confused

to move your actual sims 3 program files to the ssd, did you actually move them somehow, or did you have to just reinstall the game onto that drive?
