And don't forget when DMX is pointing the gun at the end of the movie DMX's character Tommy is shown blurred in the mirror behind the Man speaking words of truth to him. It shows the image in disarray out of focus and again blurred like eyes filled with tears and if you really focus and pay attention all though the movie implies otherwise because he is there to assassinate that Great Influential Man; look closer... Tommy was pointing the gun at himself in the mirror the whole time! Now, I don't know about the rest of you; but that's deep!
This could’ve been if what rap albums were based on films from certain songs on illmatic. I mentioned that the 3rd verse from one love related to the kid on the bench exactly how you explained 💯
Great video, great film. I think you could have talked about the ending more! However, I appreciate the comparisons to goodfellas, godfather and Scarface! Great analysis.
why is there no part 2 you struck gold with this one them analysis lore's belong to Eyes Wide Shut or The Shining or that Midsummer movie. a lot of films have real dark underbellies you need to runnthis one again and get into it! i know its work, so i cant be too asky, or whatever just think its worth getting into this sh* nice
If you are wondering about Belly 2 it does exist. It has The Game (rapper) decent storyline.. but was definitely a flop. It sucks because a lot of what they put in the first movie could have been saved for a better part 2. And it would have been bigger than the first if they kept Nas and DMX in it. It have been state property and paper soldiers x10
So hype Williams did a panel at complex con like three to four years ago and he actually admitted the original script was butchered and a lot was left on the cutting room floor due to studio interference. Hence why the plot and pacing was lackluster and inconsistent. So in retrospect we really didn’t see belly in its true form because if we probably would’ve got a different and preferably better overall story and film. The visuals and cinematography were exceptionally stunning but unfortunately the story suffered. Overall still an entertaining and fun urban crime drama but it wasn’t the best film on a technical and theatrical. But fortunately it’s strengths made up for it weakness
I can appreciate people’s fondness and your illustration of creative choices by Hype Williams in this film, but I never viewed Belly as this deep narrative after multiple viewings. I can admit certain things about the film such as the cinematography, but what else should be expected from someone who was known for videos before this? My belief is that the film should have focused on one central plot and stuck with it throughout, and that was the assassination of the minister, then develop everything around that. Although the “sequel” by the Game was titled Belly 2, I always knew what that was (especially after reading reports of “Beast” being in development with the same cast). It was a way to try to boost dvd sells by placing the “Belly” brand on that trash. Despite not holding the first film in high regard, I have to admit I was always intrigued about a follow-up to the first movie, after Beast was announced in 06. I was even hopeful that this would be a rare case where the sequel far exceeds the original, especially given the growth of all individuals involved (such as X, Nas, and Hype).
If they woulda blessed us with BEAST it would have made for a better sequel than the Game rendition..having Nas & DMX as the central characters in a true follow up woulda been astronomical... but that's the what if 🤷🏾♂️
It’s not a very deep analysis if the video is only 5 minutes bro. I’ve seen belly reviews/ brake downs that are at least as long as the movie if not that at least a 20 minute video. 5 minutes is not enough time for a deep dive into a film. Just saying
"Good artists copy, great artist steal" - Pablo Picasso For me, Hype subtlely showed love to his influences but I feel you... different viewpoints matter
man....way you break it down vs primm new way look at it instead goofy movie bad acting and making fun of nebraska niggas....find the easter eggs what this movie saying....hype made his point and to have method man and dmx same play is always kool ...t boz wow i mean....go to africa...is the real deal i see many movies saying these things...and who ever thought compare this to goodfellas i mean sacrfice....now i see the
but primm's channel is intentionally comedic so you cant clown his approach, unless his channel was trying-to be a serious movie-analysis. 🤨 Rate serious channels with serious channels. Primms content is supposed to be fun/funny. 😒
Thanks for showing appreciation to this classic. While the movie isn't good by most standards (Nas and T-Boz are TERRIBLE actors) but I still love this film because of the visuals, some of the performances and memorable characters
I agree! On a technical and theatrical aspect it ain’t the best movie in the world but the visuals are stunning, the characters are entertaining (even if they’re acting isn’t the best), and the overall culture and atmosphere of the film is fun and exciting. A very unique cinematic experience that’s a pure embodiment of urban crime and 90s hip hop culture. Even if the plot and pacing isn’t the strongest, it’s entertaining fun ride.
This might be one of the only analyses of Belly that makes sense. I've watched it twice, and this is the first time I feel like I understand it.
One of my favorite films , the camera angles and the attention to detail. I could recite the lines in High school . 💯💯💯

My favorite movie of all time. Great content, well done.
I watched this movie everyday for a year straight
You have me really thinking about this film in a new way. I haven’t seen it for awhile, so this might be an excellent time to revisit it. Thanks 🙏

This was an amazing analysis.
Peace that plot for the part 2 would be dope

Dope video bro
I never understood this movie as a whole just individual scenes.
Hype definitely wore his influences on his sleeves with this one so your take makes sense

watched it in 2022 and i've must say the cinematography aged surprisingly well
the movie looks more expensive than it acutally was
this film is great, i feel like hype tried cram too much into the 1hr36min runtime. at times i was thinking it needed to slow down

Movie sucked. Acting sucked. Unoriginal. Boring. Unrealistic. Kinda gay actually
