    Thank you for your video. My opening is about 28" since we are putting the microwave where the double oven used to be. Bought a new LG oven and LG microwave to go on top, so those trim pieces are too short. Might have to get a carpenter to modify the cabinet.

    Mike, It seems so odd that the trim piece has no grill/venting slats. My old GE unit trim did. Looking around it appears most of the brands no longer have a grill on the trim piece. Do you feel the microwave gets adequate airflow without the vents on the trim?

    • @ThatDadMike
      @ThatDadMike  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks for watching the video! The trim piece has ventilation slots along all four sides that are hard to see until installed against the flat cabinet that provide enough airflow. Direct message me and I can send you a few pictures if it would be helpful (unfortunately I am unable to attach them here).

    Is there any way around installing this in a cabinet without the outer trim? I just need to secure it but the outer trim willl make it too wide since the oven below it is not as wide.

    • @ThatDadMike
      @ThatDadMike  Рік тому

      The trim kit came with a base for the microwave that you install in the cabinet - you could certainly leave the trim piece off but the cost of the trim kit was as much as the microwave. Since the microwave is a tabletop version, perhaps just set the microwave into the cabinet without anything and see if that would work for what you are trying to do.

  • @buddytaylor6983

    So a countertop microwave will work as long as it has the trim kit for it? Never had a house with an above the oven microwave, but we’re about to buy a house with one. The microwave does not work. Your video really give me some insight. Just need to know if a countertop microwave will work. Thanks

    • @ThatDadMike
      @ThatDadMike  2 роки тому +1

      Yep, it should work fine as long as there is a kit for it. The easiest way I found to figure out which one word work best is to find a trim kit that you like and buy the microwave that corresponds to it.

I think I can tell from the tape measure it's 25

    • @ThatDadMike
      @ThatDadMike  Рік тому +1

      Thank you! I just measured and the microwave opening in the trim kit is about 25" wide. If I remember correctly, slightly wider was ok as long as the trim kit would cover the opening on all sides. I think they gave you the 25.5 measurement because the lip that sits inside the cabinet is likely that wide.

    Thanks for the great video, Mike. My cabinet opening is exactly 25", so I'm trying to gauge if I'll need to notch another .25" off each side before I buy this microwave and trim kit. Do you recall how wide your cabinet opening is? I can't quite tell from your video how wide that side vent is. It looks like I'll have ~.6" on the sides without widening my opening.

Looks like the height will be off by 7/16” I’m looking into a filler - but not excited about the compromise. Can you confirm the actual size of your cabinet cutout, and the overall height of the trim kit, please? Hoping the spec sheet is off - but that’s not likely. It’s ridiculous how there aren’t at least a few standard options for standard cutout sizes. My previous unit was a GE Profile convection with a trim kit... (no longer mfg) and now nothing seems to fit without fillers or carpentry mods. I even relaxed my budget, going up to $2,000 - still nothing! The only thing that comes close is the Bosch Convection pull down door. However, that’s on back order thru November. It’s blows my mind that your microwave went out in the morning - and you found one that worked, and the coordinating trim kit... in stock - all in one day.

      @ThatDadMike  3 роки тому +1

      @NK Bromaj, I just measured the dimensions and the overall dimensions they are stating are outer edge to outer edge of the trim kit that sits outside the cabinet. The inner lip that sits inside the cabinet is ~24 5/8 wide x 12 7/8 high. My cabinet is a standard 32" wide cabinet.
      I did get very lucky finding the kit but it did take some time to research. What worked best in my case was searching for trim kits for a 32" wide cabinet, and then buying the corresponding microwave. Luckily we have a number of Best Buy stores within 50 miles and when I searched their website, on the right hand side I found one marked "open box" locally so I knew it was in stock. Hopefully this helps - let me know if you need anything else!

      More than a couple. Tight shots of very few steps obviously don't show overall tasks to be performed. From experience removing old unit is most critical as how many screws, where located and best tool to remove. A second issue would be does the new unit actually fit the opening without modifications.
