    I was not able understand the concept of acid and base my entire college life, but you made me to understand it in less than 30 minutes. Thank you so much!!

    Nice how you bring the complexity to its essence!

    This is one of the most underrated channels ever.
    I have a question. In qualitative comparison of acidity, shouldn’t charge be the most important factor in determining the strength of the acid… (CARIO)?

      I’ll be honest, I haven’t thought about this topic in a few years so I maybe misremembering, but my recollection is that the stability of the conjugate base is what determines strength of an acid, and localized charge is the key factor determining stability of conjugate base (along with resonance, electro negativity of atoms with charge along with a few other factors like size of atom etc)

      @@sciencesimplified3890 THank you so much for the videos. I didn't really understand orgo before watching your videos. I hope you have a fantastic year full of happiness and growth.

    If we have 2 monatomic conjugate bases, where one atom has a higher Electronegativity but the other atom is larger, which one is more "stable"?

      You can determine this based on the pka/pkb of compounds (there are a few you have to memorize for the MCAT i believe it’s mostly amino acids)… but it’s been years since taking the MCAT but generally speaking I believe size and ionic radii plays a larger role?

    Might be a little of my OCD, but don't Strong Acids/Bases make VERY Weak Bases/Acids & Weak Acids/Bases make Weak Bases/Acids

      So it’s a bit technical but ka x kb = 10^-14
      So the stronger the acid, the weaker it’s conjugate base will be due to this relationship
      Likewise the stronger a base, the weaker its conjugate acid will be

      @@sciencesimplified3890 When you say stronger acid -> weaker conjugate base... is there a subtle distinction between WEAKER CB vs STABLE CB? Like the conjugate base of a strong acid is both weaker AND stable? We usually think of weak as being unstable, but I think cb can be both in this case.

    • @sciencesimplified3890
      @sciencesimplified3890  2 роки тому

      @@thegreenskittle so the weaker a CB is, the more stable the CB is. For example Cl- is a very weak CB of HCl, which means Cl- is extremely stable and will very rarely become protonated. Therefore Cl- is very weak at become protonated and changing into HCl, which means Cl- is very stable and will remain stably in the Cl- form

    The circular talking and lack of description of other factors was a bit annoying. But generally decent video
