"How does it feel to live long enough to watch all of your favorite franchises go down in flames?" Sometimes it's nice to experience something again to realize why we loved it in the first place.
It's amazing, I understood why Spike chose to confront Sid in the end but I never fully internalised the message about living in the real world and it's importance. That and the connections formed with others physically is truly the most meaningful human experience. In the past 2 years I've barely gone out and I don't think I've spoken to a stranger at length or made a new friend irl this entire time. Leave it to a show like Bebop to keep reminding you what's been missing from your life and imparting these great messages.
I'll always remember my first experience with this show being, literally, the final scene. Woke up, went to turn on the tv, and there it was, unknowingly the final episode that was just ending and I caught it. Didn't know how significant it was until years later.
Cowboy Bebop remains an 11/10. None of the "fixes" of the live-action trainwreck can change that. Hence why it was dead on arrival from the announcement.
Man, I love your videos. Specially the ones that carry such a human and optimistic message. Most media nowdays seems to carry the opposite message, im glad to see there are still beacons of light in the middle of the darkness.
>be watanabe >make series about how living in the past is unhealthy and self destructive >ends up being better than most media that follows it >people prefer rewatching it than watching new shows two decades later.
Cowboy Bebop is one of those series that a majority of the anime fanbase can honestly say is "perfect". It's iconic, it holds up to today, the messages still apply, the depth to its characters is unrivaled when compared to most series. Even with each episode sometimes feeling like its own self contained story, it still adds to the overall narrative, there is something to take away from each one. The live action understood none of this, going as far as to say that they "righted the wrongs of the anime".
Spikes humanity is shown in so many small ways. I love when in the movie he shields an old woman with his body when vincent starts shooting. It's only 5 seconds but its enough to show he values human life
My favourite symbolic analogy within the anime is when the people trying to turn people into monkeys get turned into monkeys. I think it represents the dramatic irony of wanting to turn other people as monkeys but turning into one yourself instead. It’s really deep.
Beautiful video, Nate. You reminded me why Bebop is one of my favorite shows. Love how you described it as "sentimental." So true. Such a special, and as you said, timeless work
This is probably the only time I found a show mediocre when I first watched it as a teenager, and started to understand that it's a 10/10 masterpiece after rewatching it a few times as I got older and the characters grew more relatable. nice to hear yet another angle on it through this video, about time for another rewatch 👌
The funny part is that thanks to the Live Action remake, both Netflix and Funimation ordered new Latinamerican dubs of Bebop. Which does allow more people to watch the original. Given the original dub was lost. So I have to disagree on it being a net negative effect on the fandom, at least in the non anglo sphere.
Fantastic video on one of the core, underlying themes of Bebop. And just really highlights how all the people saying that the anime was all goofy or camp and had no meaning either just didn't understand what they were watching... or never watched it at all.
What's the other? And can I recommend Ping Pong The Animation? It's also a very human focused show that I think anyone can enjoy regardless of liking anime or not.
Cowboy Bebop was something different and fresh when it came out 20 yrs ago and I wish they showed more of Vicious and Julia and Spike's realtionship and how Spike and Vicious became enemies.
I think the show needed one more episode of Julia-related content. I understood that she was important to Spike, but she was so absent from the series that she ended up feeling more like a plot device than a character. Apart from that, the series is stellar.
Ever since the release of the Netflix adaptation, I've made my love for the original Bebop well known to just about anyone that'll listen. Going on diatribes about how Netbop did the show dirty. I'd rather not keep going on about that, but instead say that Cowboy Bebop is as close to a perfect show as I believe we'll ever have the pleasure of witnessing. I might be getting sentimental, but when an episode like Bohemian Rhapsody can have me tearing up at the end, that's the mark of a true masterpiece, and when a director and composer work so well together than fans of the show will cry with just the mention of a single track, that's true art. Friends, Bebop fans, tell me you don't choke up and get misty eyed when you think about "Call me, call me."
I never thought I would see a better video about this show than the video super eye patch wolf made I should have known better than to underestimate you well played nate.....
I am going to watch this video Nate Bestmen, I just need to actually watch Cowboy Bebop through first so I'll actually understand it. I'm about 2 episodes in already and I think it's pretty good so far.
I think the only way they can redo this series is without actually redoing a whole new series and just remaster Cowboy Bebop and add new episodes in between the main series.
Holy shit you nailed everything so PERFECTLY, jesus christ! You're the GOAT, the best, the FUCKING BEST GUY EVER! Im sharing this to everyone, it's really fucking good bud. Great work, and I'm glad you do what you do - can't thank you enough for doing this.
Doing a live talk about a show I think is better than a podcast anyway, not enough personalities have interactive things with their audience. Podcasts are cool and all, but when talking about extremely subjective stuff, it would be nice to have more outlets that are interactive.
Unfortunately I watched the whole Live Action and the thing that disappointed me the most was that they took the heart from Spike. I KNEW John Cho was the right choice for the role but the writing and direction made me so disappointed in the way the show worked out.

Rest in peace, Keiko Nobumoto. Your talents for character writing will be sorely missed.
nope. high guardian spice is the future!
We don't talk about high guardian spice, that show is just the owl house but worse
@@nathanmontgomery1516, It was a jest. Comparisons between the two are obvious unholy cardinal sins of this already not so green Earth.
For me, Cowboy Bebop is one of the few shows that gets better every re-watch. So many underlying messages
Well you've clearly never seen "Hot Wheels: World Race", or its 4 movie sequel series "Acceleracers"

Can always rely on Best Guy Ever to make me nostalgic for a series I've never watched.
What are you waiting for? Watch it.
Zoomers gonna zoom
@@Ask4This implying bebop isn't zoomer-core
Bro there's actually people who haven't seen Bebop? Tf
Please do yourself a favor and watch it dubbed on Netflix. NOT the live action. The 1997 anime that you see in the video

This is why I'm a patron. Shit like this. Thanks for being one of the only dudes talking about anime that's worth a shit nowadays.
Thanks man. Appreciate it, will keep em comin.💪😎
Leave it to Nate to still have original takes about a show like Bebop, great vid as always fam
Everyone's making videos on Cowboy Bebop to celebrate the cancellation. Epic.
Then why did they make a live action of Cowboy Bebop in the first place and then cancel it?
Cowboy Bebop has really changed my life for the better

Missed the chance for a quick RIP to Keiko Nobumoto, the writer of Cowboy Bebop, she passed away just a couple days ago. o7 RIP to a legend
It’s always a good day when BGE uploads
THE greatest anime ever made.
Just finished the series this weekend. My movie blu ray should be arriving today. That was a beautiful video and meditation on the show. Thank you. 👍
Love the Sopranos connection. I always thought Spike's story was like what Furio's would be after he flees from the family.
You never-a fuck-a da boss's wife! RIP Furio he shone too brightly
I felt so bad for Furio when no one appreciated his gift of wine from home.
Looking forward to Talking Pirates, thanks for the great vid chieftain

This analysis is a masterpiece. Thank you
Came back to this video after watching the movie. Amazing how much the movie grounds you to reality given the theme. It is sending the point.
The best part about Netflix bop was everyone returning to the OG and analyzing it.
"This people are nicer that i remenber"
Yes this
I always return to this vid, this is one of your best. Thank you for sharing this, it brings to the surface many of the beautiful moments of Bebop.

the lacking mention of the netflix adaptation speaks volumes
The Anime is so good it literally did not need a live action adaptation but of course Netflix of all companies would adapt it.
Underrated Banger
Fantastic video on one of the core, underlying themes of Bebop. And just really highlights how all the people saying that the anime was all goofy or camp and had no meaning either just didn't understand what they were watching... or never watched it at all.
I don’t even like most anime but Bebop is one of two exceptions to that rule. It’s that good.
What's the other? And can I recommend Ping Pong The Animation? It's also a very human focused show that I think anyone can enjoy regardless of liking anime or not.
Anime in the 90s produced some legitimate "art" and Bebop was one of them.
There’s still plenty of anime that are “art”
I'm rooting for you BestGuy.
