Love this can opener. Another cool "feature" is that, if you have anything left over you can put the lid back on the can and it seals up pretty good for storage in the 'fridge. It doesn't lock in place, and if the can tips over stuff will leak out, but it seals well enough to preserve the contents in the 'fridge for a few days without picking up 'fridge smells.

Hey Carolina, I have arthritis and am wondering if you would recommend this for someone like me? Does it take much pressure to press/hold and release? Thanks

Thanks so much for your amazing review. I'm really thinking about purchasing this can opener. I like that it cuts the cans from the side and also that it will open up the tab top cans.

Thanks for your demonstration, I didn't know it could open the tab top cans too, that's a great feature. Didn't get scissors with mine but there is a slot for a pair that I didn't know about till your video. Bought one yesterday at Walmart in-store can lids!. $29. It works great and doesn't take up a lot of room. No jagged edges, nice and smooth and safe! The cord keeper is helpful too.

Samuel, I bought one of these can openers based on your review. This is an excellent can opener as you state in the video! Works on all cans...no sharp edges!

We've had one of these for years and it finally stopped working even though it's lightly used. I had hoped some mechanism could be replaced in the unit, but not so. If you look at the so called "cutting wheel" in the unit, there is no blade as such. The wheel is at an angle to the top of the can and I believe the wheel actually presses the top of the can from below with such force that it separates from the body of the can. The wheel has a "step" halfway down it that does the job.
It's a shame the wheel wears out because the rest of the unit is very stout. When I disassembled the old one, everything in it was very solid. The plastic gear wheel inside that turns the toothed gear that moves the can had zero wear on it.
The new instruction books do not mention the clear plastic tab that covers the removal wheel and I thought the opener was defective until my wife saw it. They could have made it white colored so it was easier to see.
Also, the cord does come out farther, but it's not an elegant method to do so. It just has a space inside where it's crammed into and you pull a bit hard to pull it out.
So in summary, it does remove tops with a smooth edge but will probably not last more than a few years if you use it frequently.

Great video, Thanks! I saw this can opener advertised with scissors and without with only about a $5 difference. I did not know what they meant for sure on scissors. Now I know. Thanks again!

Has this held up since you reviewed it 3 years ago? I bought one of these about 8 years ago, loved it, but it went dull after about 3 years. The blade is not replaceable, so I just went back to a manual opener, but I do miss the edge cuting design. Are the blades replaceable now?
This looks to be the same design as the Safety Can Express. Have you tried that product ? If so, any difference?

Works for all cans except Snow's Chopped Clam Cans. I have no idea why, they must be made differently than most cans.

Could anyone with knowledge of electro/mechanics able to explain how to or who could be repairing the mechanism of this awesome machine ? It happens I got it from the Salvation Army store but there is one set of wheel (of two) inside that do not follow the other one (disengrenage issue)..

    • @l337pwnage

I think any of this type can do that, which is why it's not a super common type of opener.
However, since it does not remove the lid, you could still rinse the can off before taking the lid off, in theory.
