I've been using my OXO manual can opener for years and it still works great. But I wanted to also have an electric opener option. After watching some can opener reviews, I decided on this one. But once I received it and pulled it out of the box, I needed to watch a detailed video to understand EXACTLY how to use it. This was very helpful. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing 😀
Thanks! I'm a senior woman with arthritis, so manual can openers are not for me. I appreciate you showing many different kinds of cans. Well done!
You are so welcome!
very helpful!! Just bought this one as my old sunbeam cheap one still worked, but was becoming hard to open cans with it. It was 18 years old...I came to see how to use it... Now I know... But what really blows my mind is this opens cans differently than the ones I'm used to from the past....
Thanks for sharing 😀
Lady.... thank you. Thank you for helping the slow people like me. I had to apologize to my kids because I thought they broke the can opener. I looked at how you were using it and realized I was using it wrong 😏 I thank the UA-cam Gawds foe people like you!
I need this in my life. $30 is quite reasonable price. Thank for reviewing this!
👍
Might check Wal Mart, they recently had them for $24
When you think the wheel wears out. Actually there are 4 screws on the back of the unit to get inside then there is a screw that can be loosened, rotate the wheel slightly, and it will work again. A good tip is to mark the wheel with a sharpie, so you can tell where the original starting place was. Hope this helps someone.
Also, if you look closely you can see where the can has been cut.
I have had my eye on this for some time--thanks for the video !!
Thanks for the link, I decided to purchase one and for $32 from Amazon for this seems to be a super great deal that I could not pass up and I own other Hamilton Beach products and they all work great for me and I’ve had pretty good experiences with that brand name the chrome is way better than the grey one as it looks cheap.
Update: my new can opener works great and hasn’t let me down once. It saves me time and frustration of opening cans manually.
Great review!!! I ordered this. I sprained my right wrist last month and cannot use my swing-away can opener which I've loved and enjoyed for years. I'm looking forward to this can opener. I had read reviews on Amazon yesterday and the ones about metal shavings scared me away. Your review changed my mind. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful 😁
Nice video, I'm going to buy one right now so thanks.
Thank you for the great demo 🙏
😁👍
Great Review! Thanks!
Thank you for this, I've been iffy about getting one of these for my mom, she has had two shoulder surgeries and now needs shoulder replacement and I've never had a need for any of these but with this I think this is exactly what she needs, thanks so much!
😁👍
Excellent Product Instructional Video. A+
Thank you for your demo. I will get get one mow.
An excellent review -- shall purchase the can opener per your review.
I was looking for an electric can opener better than the manual one I have now. Thanks to this video, I've confirmed that this is the one I need to get. Thank you!
Glad I could help!
very good review thank you
Thanks for watching!
Great review... I purchased one, got it today but haven't used it yet.
Thanks for a great video. I sawn these advertised but had no idea how they worked. You were a big help! One other thing I see in the ads is one comes with scissors and one does not Maybe only a $5 difference. I have no idea what they mean by scissors unless thats just it. Actually scissors.
I want one in my kitchen. I like that the can lid can go back on the can and it doesn’t fall in like most can openers do.
But don't forget that it was opened already and drop an opened can.
We have a can opener like this. We like it. We used it now for the past 7 years.
👍
Any thin shards of metal around the edge that drop into the food? I have had mine about 4 years and that is what has happened. Not sure if I want another one. Hamilton Beach won't reply to my messages.
Damn this is a great review appreciate this. Because I just mine and was wondering what size I can use
Glad you liked it 😀
Thank you i was looking if I could use it for the hispanic oval shape sardines. I have a the free touch one
😀
Thank you.
Nice review. Thank you!!.... Now what's for dinner with all these cans opened?
Thanks! Sardine curry ua-cam.com/video/IuasP5goFzg/v-deo.html Enjoy 😁
Gosh! Your review is PERFECT even down to your food choices! 😉!!! My electric can opener just broke, after twenty uses in less than one year. So, I am researching new well constructed electric can openers. Thank you! On a side note, how do you use the cream of coconut; what recipe calls for this item?
Glad you liked the review! Coconut cream can be used in pina coladas, curries and whipped to make a vegan whipped cream 😀
bestkitchenreviews, My can opener arrives in a few days!😊👍!!! Thanks for the coconut cream uses. I think I will try it as a coffee creamer for this summer’s iced coffee.😉
What is it made of? I had a Hamilton beach advertised heavy-duty chrome metal but what I received was chrome plated plastic. The can opener didn't flatly sit on the counter, sent it back.
Hi-ho again, my fave presenter & cook!!!
You seem to emphasize to not go around more than ONE rotation (be sure to stop after one rotation). To this I say NO NO NO! My fun-time is letting it go & go & go until the lid spins around by its self - weeeeee!; usually three to five, then I stop. Hey, it don't take much to entertain Michel here!✨🤗✨
Seriously, I have LOVED using mine for well over five years now, and it has never failed me. I HIGHLY recommend others to purchase not only THIS model/brand, but ANY of these side-cutting models. I even have a few battery models, and a fantastic hand-turn model_ ALL work great!
Regarding the possibility of metal shavings - nope, not on the PROPER lid edge. I say PROPER due to some bottoms of the can looking like it MIGHT work, but when trying to open, you CAN VERY WELL get metal slivers that could drop off into your food; BAD BAD BAD!!! But I have NEVER had that issue on the top of a good, non dented can. But I do bow to your cautionary advice regarding others. And that is one of the things I truly dig about you; seeming to care about us.
Later!😘
Thanks for sharing 😀
Kindly review bosh mum 48r1gb stand mixer and if possible review its mum5 series and maximum series
So you have to stay pressing down you can't just press it and let go ??
Great review. Just curious, what is the purpose of the lock? Also, I never thought to use it on pull-tab cans so now I will be getting a lot more use from my trusty opener. Thank you very much. :)
There is no purpose of the lock symbol shown except to show that the machine is in the operating position.
Well… It’s about time young lady! I subscribed and I don’t hear from you for months! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
Hello… does it get rusted?
I bet you have the coolest kitchen ever!
I would love to see a really small tin like tomato paste.
I was all set to buy this but it looks difficult to pull the lids off so now I"m not sure - if I had not seen this review, i would not have known it might be an issue for me
La Morena Chiles are the best!!
do these really "undo the seam" or does it cut at the seam?? I keep hearing they go dull after a while..
Sounds a bit noisy but seems to work good.
We've had one of these for years and it finally stopped working even though it's lightly used. I had hoped some mechanism could be replaced in the unit, but not so. If you look at the so called "cutting wheel" in the unit, there is no blade as such. The wheel is at an angle to the top of the can and I believe the wheel actually presses the top of the can from below with such force that it separates from the body of the can. The wheel has a "step" halfway down it that does the job.
It's a shame the wheel wears out because the rest of the unit is very stout. When I disassembled the old one, everything in it was very solid. The plastic gear wheel inside that turns the toothed gear that moves the can had zero wear on it.
The new instruction books do not mention the clear plastic tab that covers the removal wheel and I thought the opener was defective until my wife saw it. They could have made it white colored so it was easier to see.
Also, the cord does come out farther, but it's not an elegant method to do so. It just has a space inside where it's crammed into and you pull a bit hard to pull it out.
So in summary, it does remove tops with a smooth edge but will probably not last more than a few years if you use it frequently.
Hi! May I ask you does the chrome bar that protrudes (the one that looks like a padlock) serve any function or is it just like a visual aid to know where to place the can?
@@doop9851 It's the latter; just put the top of the can against the horseshoe shaped piece.
@@richardplastino792 thanks Richard!
Never see anyone open a #10 can! You did a good video, but I was wondering about the tipping problem from very large cans being heavier than the opener.
This opener weighs 3.1 pounds. Are there cans heavier than that?
@conniemartin9150 1 gallon cans could be depending on contents.
I've been searching; I need to open a lot of tuna cans to feed my 10 cats. It's killing my wrist! This opener looks reliable and versatile.... but, on the down side, it makes a lot of noise (!) and it requires the user be attentive to its cycle. I'd really appreciate an auto stop/shut off when it get's back to where it started and much less unpleasant noise.
How long did this last you before it stopped working?
Excellent video!!
I see ShopRite products!! Haha
NJ here
Thanks for watching! I ❤️ Shoprite!
best thing is you can reused those can tops and cover the cans right back then store in a fridge so nothing would go to waste that quickly! and i think maybe you can place something over the handle with weight so you don't have to keep holding it! that's the only downside and maybe the short cord!
Very interesting but very noisy to ! Is there any other brands beside Hamilton Beach ? thanks for sharing !
Cuisinart, Black & Decker and Oster make electric can openers. I haven’t compared them to see which one is quietest-maybe a future video 😁
why would you use the can opener on pop tops?
We have/had an under cabinet safe opener made by Hamilton Beach for many years. It is now not opening cans very well. It is unfortunate that the under cabinet model is discontinued. Why would you do that? The answer has to be that it did not sell well enough but why would you want this clunker taking up valuable counter space? Even so, I am getting it as I like the "safe edge" openers.
Nice video. However -- I want to point out that you said that the can opener produced "no metal shavings" right after you pulled a long strip of metal shaving off the can after opening it with the can opener!
Wasn't that a piece of the paper label?
I read some product specifications and even though it's electric, it said Battery Operated- yes. Are there any batteries used?
No batteries are used with this model.
It's not a "cutting blade". No metal is cut, instead the lid is unsealed. Thanks for the detailed review!!
How to assemble
Did you eat all that food from the cans you opened?
They only need to resolve the issue that when it finishes opening, they do not have to grab the can to prevent it from falling
Could anyone with knowledge of electro/mechanics able to explain how to or who could be repairing the mechanism of this awesome machine ? It happens I got it from the Salvation Army store but there is one set of wheel (of two) inside that do not follow the other one (disengrenage issue)..
See my long comment above. Once that wheel wears out, the unit must be discarded because nothing is replaceable.
Had two of the openers in the last 4 years, Just recently the 2nd one crapped out on me. The problem is the serrated part that spins the can keeps stripping out which makes the unit worthless, and I don't really use it that much. I'll be switching to another brand. Hope this helps someone.
Let the freaken thing finish the rotation.
How do you sharpen it?
It does not have a cutting edge, so there is nothing to sharpen. When the wheel that separates the top of the can from the body wears out, you discard the whole opener. It's a shame for sure.
Actually there are 4 screws on the back of the unit to get inside then there is a screw that can be loosened, rotate the wheel slightly, and it will work again. A good tip is to mark the wheel with a sharpie, so you can tell where the original starting place was.
Please add some Canadian affiliate links so us canadians can get one :)
I will try 😀
Does it have a knife sharpener
No, but this model does: amzn.to/3pRo9cn
Ok thank you
You should have shown the opener opening a "square" kind of can like a Spam can and a really small round can like a tomato paste can those have really tight curves. Even the sardine can was basically "round" because of the large elliptical shape.
2:35 greatings
after 1 month no longer cuts all can
thanks and all but i still cant cus im a idiot
not for me -metal shaving loud noise hummmmmm- so much better alternatives out there.
Sounds like a sewing machine
You ha stop open all those cans just to show how it works?? 😂
You sound like Frasier's ex-wife
This things stinks. We have had two and our daughter has one and they don’t work. Every can has hung up and we have to force it by hand. Don’t buy this.
It’s junk , can slips after 10 or 15 uses it’s garbage
An excellent review -- shall purchase the can opener per your review.
👍😀
