Good point about not reusing the DMF... people think they will save money, but it'll cost them more in the long run.

Not worth trying. It will fail before the rest of the parts and you'll have to drop the gearbox again.

a new dmf will not last, fit single mass i have replaced many of these from dmf to smf and had zero problem's.

well they got cheaper, the problem is some car makes do all the balancing on the dual mass garbage and snap a crank shaft if you fit a solid mass.

@@IntradeMotors if you fit a smf kit weighted the same as the dmf or near you will be ok no problem's then.

@@edkennedy6120 i know i can not fit solid mass on client cars with a dpf. i do have a solid mass in my bora pd sport tdi. its called silver bullet ,darkside development is what to sub to if you dont already for fast diesel all vag.

I believe you are incorrect in your diagnosis based on the movement you showed us with your socket test. You see, dual mass flywheels have sliding plates, and that is the sound you were hearing. Actually, you cannot correctly diagnose the flywheel until you remove it, and place it flat on a table or bench, and then test to see if while twisting it left and right (similar concept as the socket example) will the flywheel offer resistance to your twisting as well as attempt to return your twisting motion back to a neutral position.

Yes there is different design this test, you do when you already have knocking noises. I got my Bora car with new clutch owner said flywheel was not changed. i do have the exact sachs new dual mass to fit to my passat with also a pd engine there will be spring resistence before the movement stops and should Not be movement then rock solid like this was. I had it cut power due to flywheel bounce . Black smoke or blocked dpf can be other symptoms of a ignored bad dual mass flywheel.

Your rong so don’t post rong knowledge , a dmf should have spring tension .... not to be moved simply like he did . Go keep the bench hot google boi

@@EuropeanDreamz I'm going to try and help you, seeing that you react like a novice who thinks he knows everything about the subject. First of all, I agree that the springs should not allow that much movement, however it's still is a guess, while mounted on the engine based on what "Intrade Motor" (the presenter of this video) showed us. (He may be correct based on his experience in his field of automotive repair, however as a learning video he's talking to us like a repair mechanic, not an automotive instructor or one who wants to show you all the in's and out's of the problem areas to look at)
The Dual Mass Flywheel consist of more than just a double set of springs around the inside perimeter. I was looking around on UA-cam to see if I could find a REALLY GOOD video showing how the internals work. I have more experience in all of the automotive world than 80% of the people who watch these videos (That's EVERY ASPECT of the automotive world, AND I know how to spell the words "wrong" and "boy")
If your feelings are not hurt by now, then maybe watching a few videos can help you learn more. Here are a couple to get you better acquainted! ( 2nd video, give the foreign mechanic an opportunity, he will show you the play using a new DMF versus a used one. Basically you can see there is a lot of play in the new DMF, which again supports my claim to get it on the bench before you make a diagnosis).
