Saddened by his passing. I was unaware until seeing a tribute video to him. I last saw Dr Steve before I moved from Austin in 2016. He was a phenomenal and gifted healer and incredibly benevolent. When I informed him I had become chronically ill and could not work, he immediately and from there on out saw me for “whatever you can afford.” He said to just leave the cash on his front desk as I left. Didn’t matter if it was only 10 or 15. His kindness is not lost on me. Dr Steve was one of a kind: the good kind.

"Eccentric but extremely caring"...."he's a national treasure"..."unlike any visit to any healer you will ever have"...."life changing experience"....."the most caring healer of any sort I've ever visited". Seems this guy is a somewhat of a hidden gem. They say he sits, drinks tea, and walks you through the history of chiropractic approaches. He interviews you in depth about your history, and above all is caring, genuine, and takes his time. In other words, he is REAL.

I had seen him before in Austin and trust me he was borderline genius.
I realize he looks a little eccentric I. This video l, but the only way I found him different was that he truly TRULY cared for his patients.
It wasn’t about money or bleeding insurances, it wasn’t one of this 7 minute every other day hurry in and out, but he would sit and talk to you and really took an interest in getting to know his patients. He was an old skool DC and essentially never promised anything other than to rule out certain joint/nerve issues.
While most DCs today are intent and focused on being UA-cam stars, he took that time and energy to educate his patients on the science behind it.
I remember when I asked what the sound was he drew out these illustrations explaining how gasses were released and used an analogy of the toy guns with the suction cups. He said it was like the pop when you pulled the suction cup off of solid mass.
So yeah the only way he was different was in a good way.

@@nspr9721 There are some old videos of him (I believe from the 80s) where he is performing his cranial adjustment with the balloon on a patient (and he details how it works). He’s probably in his early 30’s (if you find the video it’s had to realize it’s him he looks so different). But yeah he was a real chiropractor who truly did care about the well-being of his patients. Almost to the point it became a detriment to him (my understanding his final few years were not kind to him) but when it comes to actually being a real chiropractor, there have been few like him. I also appreciate the fact he never promised anything other than to “rule out” chiropractic issues.

Wow! I cannot believe all the rumors and innuendos hurled at this good man, may he continue to rest in peace. Dr. Berman would not hurt a fly, my wife and I got a chance to know him well and he was one of the best at his craft. Those allegations about him being arrested for grouping some lady were completely unfounded. He didn't die from suicide, he died as a result of head trauma from a slip as he came out of the shower. He would have survived had someone got to him sooner, but because he lived alone, he suffered in pain and agony and was never able to recover from the coma. I am saddened by his passing but what is more sad is the lies a lot of the people commenting said.

My Chiropractic buddy Steve Berman was a true master of his craft and he encouraged me to do Balloon Cranial Adjustments here in El Paso Texas. He passed away too soon but he will never be forgotten for his intellect, his cutting edge ideas, and contributions to the world. In the world of Celestial Physics he postulated that the smallest shape of all matter in the universe was a Tetrahedron that initially started the big bang. This way the Tetrahedron shape explains the clumpiness of the universe that a singularity can not. He was something like Aristarchus of Samos who postulated that the earth revolves around the Sun in Ancient times.

I did some googling after watching this and apparently Dr. Berman has been doing this all out of a mobile home next to his own house for close to 30 years, out in the boonies of Austin Texas. He's never bothered to set up and actual office! It's clear that's he's not only skilled but incredibly humble.

I cannot know for sure - and I would never want to denigrate the suffering of anyone who has been mistreated. However I also know several good and honest people and practitioners who have almost lost their lives, their sanity, their careers and their marriages thanks to a 'Karen' type false complainer (including women, and for the record, I know at least one genuine 'Karen' and had her live in my home rent-free for a year while I worked overseas as a contractor).
However all the circumstantial evidence suggests there is no case to answer for this eccentric, unusual, possible Aspergic but undoubtedly generous and well meaning man, who did a great deal to help several close friends of mine from the US forces who fell on hard times following their service. Going through Dr. Steve's record with a fine tooth comb, police found only a marginally lapsed licence. Rest peacefully Dr. Steve, hope the view is fantastic up there, you are highly respected and honored by many people down here whose life you impacted with your care and expertise!

RIP Dr. Berman. He passed away in January 2019. Below is his obituary, taken from obituaries.austinchronicle.com/obituary/dr-stephen-berman-1072541602
Dr. Stephen Bruce Berman, Doctor of Chiropractic, Master's of Science in Neuro Physiology, Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering, and free spirit, passed away on January 13, 2019 in Austin, Texas.
A memorial service was held at Temple Beth Shalom.
Steve was born in Washington, DC to Harold John Berman and Joan Eleanor Felstein on September 9, 1950. His view on the world and his perspective on life was greatly affected and influenced by the assassinations of the 60's, the civil rights movement, and especially the Anti-Vietnam war protests. He travelled the country and the later the world, learning from his experiences as he went along. After running his own business in D.C., he discovered Chiropractic and went back to school to become and independent Doctor of Chiropractic for 30+ years, improving and saving thousands of patients' lives. Steve was always keen on healthcare and stayed emphatically true to his Hippocratic oath, going to great lengths to help when he was people were in pain, knowing he was the best.
He loved adventure, geology and mining, inventing and registering patents, and developing an integrated physics theory that explains our Universe. He even became the eldest alligator wrestler in Colorado! He was befriended and beloved anywhere he travelled. Above all, he was a loving father and always prioritized spending time with his two sons as they grew up. To many he was a doctor, a classmate, a business partner, a teacher, a client, a friend, family or even a soulmate. His legacy will live on in the memories of these dear people whose lives he touched, articles he published and technique perfected ( ua-cam.com/video/2Mfhq7JhNos/v-deo.html ).
    Way to go Steve!

@@stephd8589 That's a shame. However, the woman could've made it up. I wouldn't be surprised in this day and age. It seems like it was, too. The follow-ups on this story are spare and the only (bad) news there is is that he passed away. He was only charged with practicing without a license.

Chiropractic started off as a traditional folk healing practice called "bone setting" practiced world wide. Medical science back then was composed of many schools, like classical Hippocratic origin medical doctors (who did not perform surgeries), surgeons, barbers, bone setters and herbal healers (later on dentists and Asia has it's own unique healiers like accupunturists. etc.) all were around and were considered different medical disciplines.
