Hi Bearded Peeps. Enjoyed the video. Definitely much better than reading an entire manual (especially if you don't own a Digitone and wish to ensure that it will do what you want it to). I've been looking into using a Digitone (or any Elektron device really) to use as an external drum machine connected to my sequencer. I want to know if you've found out a way to create a sound pool and assign a MIDI note to each sound (or if this is even possible). I've been told that using a Digitone/Digitakt/Rytm/AnalogFour in this way is a waste, but hey, I would still like to know that it can do this. Thanks!
Thanks! I guess people are saying that because all those synths have sequencers built in. But I say use it how the hell you want :) I've not really got into the midi side of any of the synths (beyond master clock) as they are so brilliantly self contained. I'm not sure you would be able to get an external sequencer to trigger different sounds from the sound bank, just the sounds loaded to the tracks - so on the Digitakt that would give you 8, Digitone 4. You can control a lot of the parameters though, so I might be wrong.
Dude... I just recently got a Digitone last week and I am also NOT a manual type of guy. This video right here has been the single most helpful video for me to learn how to start from scratch and build amazing sounds. Keep these videos up, especially on the Digitone, because I could certainly use it! haha
Thanks for this! Already lost two patches on my first day with my Digitone because there was no obvious instruction on how to save a Sound! Pattern, yes, Project, yes... Sound... no.
Your tutorial is fun to watch and very helpful. I'm more an analog, "one-knob-per-function" guy with a Moog Sub 37, Folktek Mescaline, Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms System 201, Avalon bassline, etc. But I'm very attracted to this "menu diving" Digitone. Contrary to my current methodology, I'm thrilled by the versatility and precision of parameter manipulation on this FM synthesis device that includes subtractive filtering. It looks rather logical and easy to figure out, if one is patient. I plan to order a Digitone in a few days. THANKS for making this video.
Thanks Steven. I have a few analogue synths too. I'm recent returner to the world of hardware and so thought the FM was a good new buy as it's not like anything else I have. It's a great tool and I'm finding lots of new sounds by playing with it. Menu diving can be a bit of a pain, but it can be easy enough once you get used to it :)
Nice and clear tutorial. And great idea to have one book with info for all gear! No more searching for manuals (and then trying to find the one piece of info within them...) Just saved me hours of wasted time :)
I so needed this video. Please do more on this device. This is my first Elektron device so I've been facing a steep learning curve. The manual has been good for some things but an explanation of sound pools and why we even needed them has been difficult to find. And as for saving things, well, that's been a random hit and miss experience... more videos on the Elektron fundamentals please...!
I fell for the a4mk1 for sound design and warm analogue sounds As synths are my favourite over sampling and then the monomachine went too high as fm always interested me as well. When this came out I just melted. Replaces a monomachine perfectly. 👍
Yeah it has the Elektron workflow which can sometimes feel a bit odd, but once you get it, it's quite quick. The important stuff to manipulate sound is all pretty accessible, which is the good thing :)
Thank you so much for your informative content! Very helpful to a Digitone beginner like myself. Question for anyone : is there a way to program more than 16 measures (4 pages)?
well then its me also :) - can you do a tutorial using SOUND TRACK and the ADD NOTES chord feature, I can only use the step sequencer with one note :/ or is this a stupid request :p
Those "things" you are having trouble naming are generally called "steps", or in the Elektron parlance "trigs", not "beats" (which is a musical term that means something else).
Is there a way to save sounds with parameters such as 'Chord Memory' and 'Unison' engaged because whenever i try to save a sound with any of those on they are disabled.
Why is it impossible for someone to answer the question 'how do I save to the sound library' (not the pool). Basically I made a sound, from scratch, I love what I've made... and then all I could find was how to save to the sound pool so I've done that but when I do this, for some reason, none of my library sounds are visible any more and I'm stuck on my sound pool sound only and this is not what i want. I want to save it as a sound preset in my library... so I can choose it at any point I want for future / separate projects. I'm baffled how no one is answering this question?? Any help would be appreciated. First things first, how on earth to I get my main preset library back as it seems to just be stuck on this sound pool?
Thanks for posting this! Very helpful. Do you know if there’s a way to pull sounds of your own from other projects into a new project? I haven’t been able to figure out how to do that. I just have a weird thing about not using factory presets, so I’d like to be able to access mine. So far I’ve just been basically saving as a new project so that I have all of my presets from the other project ready to go or just starting from scratch with brand new sounds, but neither method is ideal. What am I missing? I’d love a video explaining that. I’m sure others would too. Thanks!
Thanks Rob. A sequence of tracks? Sort of like creating a song. I would use the chaining function which I think works the same as it does on the Digitakt. I haven't had time to dig into that yet as I got sidetracked by the Analog 4 which has song mode (loooooove song mode) I'll have a play and post a video soon :)
To get close to Digitone, you'd need four Volca FM, a polyphonic patterning sequencer (dunno a cheap one, maybe two Novation Circuit?), a mixer a multi effect. Seems more expensive and a lot more bother, but yeah, you could start with just one FM...
Korg Electribe 2 might be something to consider. ~$400 and great workflow. I’ve been using it for a couple of years and have put together about 40 songs, feel free to check my channel for some examples; however from what I’ve heard, most people use it for techno or ambient
3:27 see... already I'm tired of the menu diving... this is why I dumped my three other Elecktron devices. It's painful; I'm here watching hoping it wasn't going to be so.
I haaaaaate them LOL but I know we kinda, sorta need them. I think I probably spend more time searching YT to try and find the answer than I would need to find it in the manual, but it's a manual so... no! Not gonna happen. ;)
Haha. Yeah I find out everything off UA-cam that I need to learn a new synth. I take it the digitone is the exact same as the digitakt sequencer? As in you can have a different sound on each trig if you so desired then use conditional trigs to get them to play at different times. Oh and elektron like to call steps ‘trigs’
Yeah I think it's the same. I got my Digitakt just before the Digitone, so I've not had a chance to learn that properly yet. The workflow appears to be the same, so I guess that's why there aren't videos of the really simple stuff on UA-cam yet. STEPS! yes - thanks :)
why would a man use phrases such as "yay" or "woohoo"? i really wanted to give you a pass on the soy face in your intro but you really arent doing yourself any favors
@@Hakucho64 those cultures should be evaporated. in some cultures, they eat dirt cookies. you can "not take yourself too seriously" and also not sound like a 40 year old cat lady
Hey all - if the video is helpful I'll make more sooner rather than later. Just post a comment about a feature you'd like me to stumble through!
Bearded Beeps hm, something about arps and chords would be nice.
Great - okay, will do that :)
Definitely helpful. I think there might be Digitone niche for short and to the point tutorials that focus on a specific function.

Digitone has a super steep learning curve. It makes me CRAZY!! So, thank you for making it more understandable and usable. MUCH APPRECIATED!!

me too, i was so satisfied with the one i created yesterday and then i dont know how it just disappeared
holy shit ive been playing this one for years and had no idea you could do this holy moly! cheers
Thanks for uploading this, my digitone was doing my head in. This will also help me navigate my syntakt. Thanks mate 🤙
You can also save sounds to the +DRIVE. Sound Pool is just a BEST OFF, mainly used for Sound Locks on a pattern, within the same project.
This was very helpful, for my first day with Digitone. Thank you!
All of these various sound things category have had me baffled....your tutorial was so helpful....thank you for sharing this!
Glad it was useful :)

Awesome dude! Thanks for the SUCCINCT and spot on video!
Liked/Subscribed. You showed me things that will work on all 3 of my machines! Thank you sir!

It takes a bit of time doesn't it - but once you get the workflow it becomes a lot easier - more 'how to' videos soon :)
This is a great tutorial for getting started...
Thanks for the tutorial, I just spent a hour trying to figure this out then gave up and found your video lol.
Glad you found it! :) Thanks.
The Sound of Stories look forward to you posting new content 😎
Very helpfull just got one and I hate reading manuals Tnx a lot
Good video, thanks!
Very Very helpfull, many thanks!!! 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏
I did a similar demo on the sound pools. but this is way More Informative thanks. This machines work flow is really amazing.👍
Jlbmixes90210 thanks - I’m totally in love with Elektron products!

Can you really trust a guy who has 10 projects called “new project” 😜
Just playing. Thanks for the tutorial. Was helpful.
Hahahahahaha! You can't! I'm inherently lazy ;)
Nice intro to Digitone... more menu-diving than I expected.
Yeah it has the Elektron workflow which can sometimes feel a bit odd, but once you get it, it's quite quick. The important stuff to manipulate sound is all pretty accessible, which is the good thing :)
Thanks for allowing me not use the Digitone manual! Although at least it's not in Swedish lol
Thank you so much for your informative content! Very helpful to a Digitone beginner like myself. Question for anyone : is there a way to program more than 16 measures (4 pages)?
Thanks for that, subscribing for part 2. You've got a knack for this stuff, keep up the good work :)
That was really helpful. Thanks man!
I have notebooks too. I do read the manual, then take notes, then continue to take notes as I learn things. :)
djshiva same here - but I need to be better organised with them lol
Thanks. I think you should make a book
“50 tips to avoid Elektron Manuals”.
👍
LOL - great idea!
I agree about the Elektron manual, Roland can make manuals nobody else, thanks for this
It's partly me - I'm lazy. But it's partly them - they're confuuuusing ;)
well then its me also :) - can you do a tutorial using SOUND TRACK and the ADD NOTES chord feature, I can only use the step sequencer with one note :/ or is this a stupid request :p
This is a really useful video - thanks!
Great demo, thank you!
Very helpful. Cool channel! 👍
hey, so im stuck trying to get my midi controller to audition the sound im browsing in the sound manager. all this thru an mpc one. any ideas?

Nice one mate, very helpful 👍
Bob Bell Sound thanks - will do a few more short videos when I get time 😊

Not sure, I would have thought you can - but it's Elektron, so anything's possible. I'll have a play as I've been neglecting the Digitone for a while!
thank you so much for this..best tutorial I've found on internet so far! is there a part 2? I can't seem to find it
I got side-tracked with work and haven't got round to Part 2 yet! Sorry!!!
Thank you soooooo much. You’re a savior. ❤️🙏🏻
Thanks Man..... helpful 👍🏻
Thank God Simon....the manual is completely a convoluted circle of
Confusion. Keep up the the great vids.
How did you create a sequence ?
Thanks
Rob

Simple to understand. Thank you! I just bought one and I believe to have some problems with keys note sequencer. Please....
What's the problem I might be able to help or can do a quick video.
Great tutorial . Thanks
Cheers :)
100% agree on the elektron manuals love the products tho
when naming sound/pattern etc...FUNC+PLAY [clear] will clear the naming field
You have same video for sound pool creation on the Digitakt?
Not yet - but I think the process is the same...?
To clear the type in naming a sound. Function + clear.🌝
Holy ship elektron, the idea was to experiment with fm by encouraging users to tweak.. but to discourage people to save with that many clicks?
Starts at 2:31 😀
nice one mate!
Thanks :)
thank you sir v helpful
Nice tutorial thanks :-)
Great tutorial thanks I hope you are going to do more like this on the digitone, they are a bit confusing and the manual doesn't help
Any alternatives to this beast?
I really don't want to put $800 into this
Maybe the Korg Volca FM?

Thank you I just bought this thing and the manual was the worst read ever and I’m a college music professor
Glad it was helpful - I need to do some more :)
Elektron are one off the worst companies for making their products complicated! way to much holding 20 buttons at one to do a simple task!
Embrace the pain.
Learn to play violin and you'll realize how Elektron product are easy to use ;)
