I really enjoy your demo/overview videos, they're always unique and I always pick up a new technique or tip. I love that you emphasize exploration and enjoyment. Good stuff.
I pretty much exclusively use modular and tape but you got me thinking with this demo. It’s really enlightening to see someone showing the experimental possibilities of an Elektron box. The 3 LFO’s per track and how you can sequence everything is crazy powerful.
Thanks, Sarah. Both for giving a good high-level of this device, but also for just 'using' parameter locks so I could watch without a bunch of explaining to confuse me (as has the case up to now). I get it now. Much appreciated all around.
10:26-10:37 reminds me of a robot straining to lift up something heavy, then comically tipping over. great breakdown; clear and educational. May pick one up.
Great Video! Once again, your fresh approach gives me new ideas for my gear (Hydrasynth, west coast stuff...). Do you prefer major or minor? ;-) Greetings from Vienna!
I absolutely love my digitone. Never thought id end up parting with it, but im definitely upgrading as soon as i got the money. cant wait! is there a way to delay the start of the ratio offset?
I don't find time to watch full videos but I always love watching the music & exploration part of your videos. That first thing you did with playing different timbres across the keys is the best performance idea I've seen for an Elektron box in a long time! Can you also play them like that while the sequencer is playing?
If you were looking for an overall brain most people would say Octatrack, but honestly they’re a HUGE learning curve and a lot of people give up. All the boxes in this form factor (inc Digitakt/Syntakt) are very much more immediately accessible and you really only need to sync them as they all have the same excellent sequencing architecture. The drum capabilities of this thing are making my Syntakt seem a bit redundant frankly
Digitone is just as good if you have any other sampler OG 4 trax and new up to 16 trax (you can sacrifice all sound tracks to use them as midi drivers) each of 16 notes polyphony. Otherwise get digitakt to cover ur sample + brain needs. (Octatrack if more advanced but I doubt you want to buy octatrack as 1st elektron device)
I had never owned an Elektron device till a week ago (owned many synths and simpler Sequencers). I bought a Syntakt and immediately fell in love with the workflow. Elektron devices force you to synthesize sounds in the context of patterns/loops, not just sounds. Sounds that are simple and not too useful on their own are suddenly transformed into something interesting over a single measure, thanks to the step Sequencer and it's parameter locks going to the filter and the direct hands on sound shaping. The sound design options are all very immediately accessible, which make it tempting to Tweak. After 3 hrs of the Syntakt, I returned it and bought the Digitakt II. It added 4 more tracks, double the steps, and sampling (including loading single cycle waveforms, basic granular synthesis, and basic wavetable synthesis minus the morphing). I use mine for drums, Rhythmic basses & Plucks, and drone textures. The digitone and digitakt would Sequence external gear well, both 16 tracks. I'd pick one based on the sounds you want to go with it (Samples or these synthesis machines). I'm tempted to pickup one of these to go with it as a glitchy noise machine...but I think that's GAS. The digitakt should be able to handle what I would use this for, with the exception of swarm spread & modulating oscillators to one another.
@ulvessens5902 no problem! I think that's the answer: which device do you lack firepower in? They are both capable of awesome textures, noises, bass, drums, and rhythm. I gotta give a +1 to samplers for drums because of the compression and ability to cut thru a mix consistently... but drumsynths have a certain attraction too
Oh for Christ's sakes! Come on! Elektron gave you one, and now you're selling it to us. Hmmmmmmmm. This all looks a bit pathetic and dsperate for profit (Elektron).

So happy that they resonate with you!
Soft spoken, easy pacing, and a different approach to sound (and the creation of) from most other reviews. A pleasure watching your reviews, Sarah.
I was surprised to see you working with an Elektron box! Great work! Can't wait to get mine.
You’re the best 🙌🏼
I didn't think I wanted one until I got to 10:30 of this video. Wow, the sounds you make in this video are impressive and inspiring.
You made it sound better than the launch videos.
She should be doing the video launch. This is the first time I’ve been interested in a Elektron devise
This made me list my DN1 on ebay. Much better than official release video and those of other youtubers!
I'm so happy they sent you one!

It's a very different workflow from modular for sure, but still lots of incredible options for sound design.
Lovely presentation from your (always interesting) point of view / audition.
🙏
Love what you are doing with this.
Giving me ideas to try with my Syntakt 🎶🔥
The Digitone is my most used music device ever and now its evolved. Cant wait.
Thanks, Sarah.

Glad it was helpful!
Amazing video. Your sound examples are so dope!!!
The video that I was scared of. Great job Sarah, now I am interested
Great video, love that you go into modular / experimental perspectives with this thing
Glad you liked it!
Several types of noise is so dope

I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Exploration section is giving serious Sophie vibes
Inspiring demo and perspective !
Damn, that thing sounds amazing.
The Music and Exploration at minute 18 onwards was FUCKIN AMAZING!!! Thanks for adding a tutorial
Thank you so much!
13:32 the sound of money leaving my household
That last experiment was lovely, so much texture! I'm surprised you didn't play with the arp more, it's a killer sound design aspect as well.
I'm so happy i found your channel 😊
Me too!!
That fm drum patch is NASTY
Cool video, thanks! It's always good to go back to the basics :)
Nice video !! Loving the DN 2 ❤
You have very beautiful hands !
( just observation. no creepy weirdo, here 😆 )
Placed the order based on your video. :) Funny, I was also considering the S4 and you used it!
What a great product review smile love the fact that your not shilling the bs the other shills are pushing out quality content
Great fun, I am extremely tempted by this :D
31:31 I like your Venetian Snares style 7/8 time.
That Thunder is HUGE!!! 😃
lol and it’s heavy! I was certainly surprised by the chonkiness when I first got it
this is so good and inspiring wow
Nice stuff

Do you prefer major or minor? ;-)
Greetings from Vienna!

You can, and you could also record the steps you've played live and then play on top of those :p
@@jaakbonenstaak8041 That's great to know, thanks for clarifying!
From 27:00 on it sounds like it belongs into a Portal 2 soundtrack ❤
damn, i feel like now you can get really warm almost analog tones from it to ,
Im so glad you actually said “bit depth reduction” instead of “bitrate” lol
I prefer more music and less glitching :) Cool anyway.
What would you suggest as an expressive midi controller that is similar to the Buchla but does not cost thousands, Prefereably around 500 :D
18:40 ❤
Never owned an Elektron, are Digitones good as the brains of a setup or should I be looking at the Digitakts/Syntakts/Octatracks instead?

Hmm, Ok. I don't have a sampler, so perhaps the Digitakt could fill that job, plus be the brains. Thanks for your advice!

Midi retrig and midi arp?
😍
gangster
no midi arp? :{
👍
Is there a random button to randomise the engine variables ?
Yeah just press the page button + YES. Works on any single page (you would have to do it multiple times to randomize everything)
@@naturarum thanks , that sounds fun !
Digitone mk1 is hereby deemed: Origitone

You certainly put a lot of effort to make it sound like shite.
No thanks, I’ll stick with my MPC Live and Syntakt.
Wow, how many commercials can a video have? I had to watch like 8 of them….
First world problems.
you "had to"?
