      As a non believer myself, Franks answer was hopeless.
      How did he conclude which bits are supposed to be taken literally?
      Just the bits that we know are correct?
      Once you start playing around with different interpretations then it’s no longer the word of god.
      It’s your own version of what you want it to say.
      The real answer is that it’s a collection of conflicting myths and stories.

      @danielpray9089 8 днів тому +1

      @CrinkledPankerSociety In general, historical narrative is pretty clear. Prophesy is also quite obvious in most cases. Allegory is no less obvious in the Bible than anywhere else. It just takes a reasonable reading and a willingness to do so. When one can read as if it is an accurate account, one reads it that way. Also, the Bible has been broken down into various sections such as history, prophesy, etc. One can see references on the various sections and verses. There are sections which people do debate over though. But the most important doctrines are very obvious, such as the accounts regarding the death, burial, and resurrection. That is clearly written as a historical narrative. I know this is rather broadly stated, but in literature, one must use common sense in how anything is read. There are debates over secular literature and what the authors truly meant, so the Bible is really no different than anything else one reads.

    The Bible can be read with the same common sense logic we use to approach everything else in life. It's literal in its historical explaining of events, people, dates and time periods.
    It's the critics that want to pick it apart and pretend they suddenly don't know what context and figurative language are when a little extra reading and a willingness to understand, make that clear.
    With the same silly arguments against the Bible, we should be calling up our local news stations and fact checking them for telling us what time the sunrise would be since the sun doesn't rise.
    Those are just desperate attempts to find fault where there is none.

    • @lawrenceeason8007
      @lawrenceeason8007 13 днів тому

      It cannot. There is no common sense in a bible that says wooden canes turned into snakes, a river became blood, talking donkeys, a man lived inside a big fish for 3 days, there was a worldwide flood, a man came to life after being over 2 days dead.
      No common sense in instructions to kill your family if they encourage other gods to you…murdering children…killing a human being because they had affair or because they worked on a Saturday.
      The bible in many ways defies common sense…but to be fair there are examples of common sense in the bible.

      What's wrong with Revelation - have you studied it?
      It gives an account of the world powers beginning with the Egyptian empire - biblical history testifies to each world power - Egypt > Assyria > Babylon > Medo-Persia > Greece > Rome .. the apostle John who wrote Revelation, correctly identified Rome as the 6th world power and prophetically identified the 7th dual Anglo-American relationship - the last world power before the establishment of God's kingdom.
      Revelation also identifies the United Nations (former League of Nations) as an 'eighth king' - referred to as 'the beast with the mortal wound' .. all it takes is a bit of study and understanding the bible as a whole to get the overall picture.
      Revelation chapter 18 clearly identifies false religion - Babylon the Great and its demise when God judges the clergy of Christendom, including all other false religions.

      Moses wrote Genesis with the clear intention that God was referring to literal 24-hour days of creation; this is referenced in other parts of scripture, such as the 7-day work week where we work on 6 days and rest on 1 just as the lord worked for 6 days and rested on 1 in Exodus 20:8-11, and the New Testament authors and Jesus repeatedly quoted from Genesis as literal historical narrative.
      The age of the earth isn't an interpretation issue, it's an authority issue. Are you going to put your trust in God's infallable word, which clearly conveys a young earth by a plain reading of Genesis, or are you going to put your trust in fallable man's word, who came up with the idea of "Evolution" and "millions of years" less than 200 years ago by way of faulty interpretations of rock layers and fossils that were clearly laid down in Noah's Flood?

As far as I understand it, Christianity hinges upon the belief that Jesus (who is God) died and rose again, so that those who believe are saved. Just a little extra info:
      In a library system, religion is generally filed under "non-fiction" as it is considered a factual subject, typically falling under the "200" category in the Dewey Decimal Classification system, which is dedicated to religion and theology; meaning religious texts and related materials are classified as non-fiction.
      Key points to remember:
      Non-fiction classification: Most libraries categorize religious texts and materials as non-fiction because they are presented as factual accounts of beliefs and practices.
      Dewey Decimal System: In the Dewey Decimal System, the "200" range specifically covers religion.
      Fiction with religious themes: While religious texts are considered non-fiction, there can be fictional works that incorporate religious themes, which would be classified as fiction.

In the Harvard gazette there's a peer reviewed article that says the planet was under water, but they believe it happened 3 billion years ago so at least they are admitting to it. So, yes Harvard scientist have discovered that in extreme circumstances the waters covered the whole earth. The flood story is older than the written bible and the Jews always had an oral tradition that existed before parchment or cuneiform tablets all the people of the world are descendants of Noah's family that's why over 200 cultures have a story of a great flood. It's no wonder other cultures have a flood story they all come from the same family that stepped off the ark. They didn't write about the flood on the day it happened it was always an older story. The bible is written throughout with symbolism and parables.
    Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. 1 Tim 1:4 (KJV)
    To “rightly divide (separate) the word of truth” you must separate fact from fable, truth from tale, and principle from parable.
    4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 2 Tim 4:4 (KJV)
    Example;
    When someone is tempted to do something that they know is wrong they have a little debate in their head and lie to themselves and make excuses to justify the action they want to take. Just like the story of Eve and the talking serpent. A talking serpent is a fable; 2 Tim 4:4 (KJV).
    A talking serpent symbolic of the lust of the flesh; is truth.
    We are told to seek out wisdom and knowledge throughout the bible(KJV), and contrary to the preachers and teachers deceiving statement “we can’t know (comprehend) God, the fact is we CAN know all there is that pertains to God and us, his creation. BUT Matt 13:10-11-15 (KJV). The arrogance of this generation thinking they are better than past generations, cannot grasp the full impact of said verses. When you take parables as literal you get fables.
    Don’t take my word for it, or any bodies for that matter. Come to the bible (KJV) with a clean slate, and with sincere want for truth, and not to consume it upon your lusts, but that you may do true worship and obedience to God, with a repentant heart, and with reason and logic the spirit of God will teach.11 … in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Acts 17:11 (KJV).
    16 ...for many be called, but few chosen. Matt 20:16 (KJV)
    All glory to God. Amen

      Amen! Also, with the age of the earth. Moses was not trying to communicate to the reader how old the earth is. But for some Christians will live or die by the sword when it comes to the age of the earth. Jesus didn't speak about it nor his apostles.

      Yet you claim to have dedicated 50 years of your life to just that Barbie. Now you are mad at God for whatever twisted reason your mind has dreamed up. You just can't walk away from God no matter what you do though. Maybe there is hope for you yet. I will continue to pray for you to come back to Christ. Maybe when you grow up and stop the temper tantrums your thinking will clear. All that hate is eating you alive, and the devil is dancing on your soul.
