I have build a Raspberry Pi for the same purpose, playing video files, and for transitions on my ATEM Mini Pro.
I use the OMXPlayer, from a command line.
Playback is controlled via Companion, and a Stream Deck, and will also do the switching inputs automatically 😀
It’s a bit more advanced to setup, but once it is done, you have a very compact, and stable solution.
The same Raspberry Pi is also used as a Streaming Brigde (like the Blacmagic version), so other ATEMs can stream to my device.
Thanks for this great video 👍

I have used the install process below
      github.com/sosedoff/omxremote
I use Companion, to send the commands to control playback, as well as switching input. I use Stream Deck as well.
If I have a video with graphics and a green background, I can key it out with the ATEM.

On the Mac, there's a video server app called Mitti, which can be configured to emulate a HyperDeck Studio player. That gives you the unique ability to launch video playback from the ATEM Software Control app, or via a macro button programmed on an ATEM Mini. The main drawback to Mitti is the licensing fee, but it's worth it for those who prefer to use hardware controllers rather than a mouse.

Thanks! Your videos have not only saved me hours of time, but made things possible that I would've otherwise given up on out of frustration. This technique in particular frees up my Shuttle HD to record, while allowing me a lot more flexibility in the kinds of media I can play. (The Shuttle HD is notoriously difficult when you try to mix videos recorded with different frame rates, audio settings, codecs, etc.). Using your technique I can queue up openings and other clips with a lot more freedom.

Thanks again for the support Joe, massively appreciated. And yes agree with what you've said about the Hyperdecks...they like to have everything set to the same framerate etc to be able to be visible for playback. Glad to hear that using OBS as a playout system is working well for you :)

@@AlexPettitt I tested the workflow you described on the ATEM Mini Pro ISO in my office that I use for Zooms to confirm the workflow and it works flawlessly, thanks to you, Alex. I'll repeat the steps with my studio setup using the Extreme ISO and then re-think using the Shuttle for clips because as I mentioned in another comment, it doesn't seem possible to use one Shuttle HD for both playback and recording and I really need to have a backup in case it freezes again. I picked up a new SanDisk Extreme Pro that claims to have 2000 MB/s read/write speeds and this time I'm going to use exFAT to see if that prevents the problem. Either way I'll also split my final output so I can capture the program on my Atomos. Lastly, I'm re-thinking my primary cameras so I can have even more backups for the individual cameras. I know my 90D can't record to SD while exporting clean HDMI, but my Lumix G85 should be able to do this, so perhaps I'll either get another one, or a BM Pocket 4K. You can never have too many backups. :)

You can setup recording of the last x seconds and with one button it can start a new scene with that recorded replay. I used when I stream the field hockey match. When scored, I press record and then it keeps the last 10 secs since I pressed. The I pres replay and with a plugin I automatically after 10 sec switch to a different stream that plays out that short piece of video at 50% speed. Viewers love it.... 🙂

    • @ognyanstrelkov3773

Because you can’t get different tracks via the ATEM to OBS, essentially, the ATEM becomes a webcam. In effect, ATEM gets 3 inputs, mixes all of the tracks and goes to OBS.

Unfortunately, Atem has no control over the sources size. My cameras are different, and they generate images inside a frame. I tried this solution but had some frame rate issues, but maybe it was due to my paricular setup, or the frame rate of the videos themselves.
Also, I wanted to use the DownStreamKey on the ATEM, so I tried combining h2r graphics with a window capture in OBS, projecting over itself the Program of OBS.
It somewhat worked, but was laggy and less clean than the « native » output of H2R graphics.
I’d love to see Blackmagic update their more powerful ATEM’s with the feature of the Mini’s. With 2 cameras + videos/slides + Key&fill, I’m quickly out of available ports on the Mini. 😅

    • @AlexPettitt
      @AlexPettitt  4 роки тому +1

Hey Enregistreur, Window Capture always seems to throw up some frame rate issues for some reason, try and give Desktop Capture instead (it seems to be a more stable method in OBS). And I totally agree with you, would love to see some of the features in ATEM Mini brought to their professional switchers.

  • @EdwardKilner

I have used OBS a tiny bit, so I understood most of that. I don’t have an ATEM, so I didn’t get how it fit in, exactly. I could understand the computer running OBS having an HDMI output to the ATEM. What was it/should it be connected to? What else is connected to the ATEM? Would you be operating OBS in addition to the ATEM? And, I gather the iPad topic was separate? I really can’t tell whether you did a good job or not. I did already have you on my subscriber list and will look around your sight.

There are some workarounds available on the web, but in the end, none of them worked well enough for me to be confident I could run a session without hitting serious issues. Once I had a session where I had to work with a lot of videos. I received some of them at the very last minute and forgot to enable monitoring. I had to troubleshoot the audio problem during the live stream... I am considering switching to vMix as a media player for that reason.

    - OBS
    - VLC Media Player software
    Our problem :
We try to play a short video (for example a short report) or a Powerpoint file stored on the computer, from OBS to Atem Mini Extreme, but we can't really do it.

No internet on it however. My question is this: When i start streaming from my Streamlabs obs software, and i want to use the mini as a capture card. Is it correctly understood that all i have to do, is add the ATEM mini "webcam" source in streamlabs, and press stream IN STREAMLABS? Do i not have press "REC" or "ON AIR" on the atem ?

Thanks Alex for your great work. I have been trying to play videos with OBS but it works only with one video. If I want to switch between more it is not working right. I tried it so many times, starting the computer again, waiting a day and trying it again - no chance. It doesn´t work and I do have the latest version.

Just to check that you are clicking “Full screen projector preview” and not selecting it for just that scene. Doing it for one scene only will only play that 1 video on the scene. Hope this helps

Thanks Alex - this was really useful. You mentioned that you can set videos to play in OBS. Which command in Bitfocus Companion makes a video play in OBS? In the OBS presets there are presets for scene to programme which will switch to the correct program, but if the scene has a media source then how can you make it start playing. Even if in properties when you have "Restart playback when source becomes active" selected, it does not start playing when you switch to the scene using Companion (PS. I also want to find a command to set fullscreen projector to BDMI to ensure that my ATEM Mini Extreme picks up the video when it plays - but that's another thing).

9:53. Thanks for all. Do I get this correctly that when you want to start the VT Networking you have to A) click on the scene in OBS whilst you B) you selectat the same time, manually, the camera that has the HDMI from the laptop on the ATEM ?

Hi there! Thanks for making great CLEAR videos!
I have a question: is there a way to work the opposite way? So OBS would take care of the streaming side and as well of all multimedia sources and sending a clean hdmi feed from the atem without loosing the multiview? The atem has only one hdmi output...hope it make sense!

Hi Alex! Great tutorial. I was able to follow along, setup VT's to play after I press my computer source video on the atem and select the video in OBS. Where I'm stuck is at 8:48, I'm trying to understand how you played the video in the atem mini program feed as a clean looking video and it's not showing the obs controls like you have on your background? I don't understand what I might have missed ?? I even went back to the 5:00 mark, but my windows doesn't drag over like yours and even then I'm not sure how you could have started the video so cleanly and not displaying the obs control screen?? How?? lol.. :-/

Hey J’Mel, it sounds to me like when you connected your ATEM Mini to your computer, your computer is in MIRROR mode, instead or EXTENDED DISPLAY. Try setting to extended display in widows display settings and all should work fine. Any trouble, just give me another shout here in the comments :)

    • @jmelgraves
      @jmelgraves 4 роки тому +1

@@AlexPettitt Thank you so much !! I did have my computer in mirror mode. There is no way I would have figured that out! I didn’t even know the atem mini can serve as an extended display. I’m not sure if this is the way you did it particularly in your example, but once I moved my full screen projector window over to the mini, I put OBS into studio mode, and I was able see how you can queue other videos to preview and then cut them to the program side smoothly. These are such powerful little tools with so many possibilities! I appreciate you taking the time to help me out and thank you for teaching!

@@younken24films You're welcome! And I'll try my best to help you. I'll tell you my setup and hopefully that will help. I have my macbook pro on hdmi 4 of my atem mini (you can use hdmi 1-4). On my macbook, I have my airplay set to "use as a separate display". The hdmi out on my atem mini is going into a camlink 4k into the usb of my imac. When I'm using zoom or a quicktime movie recording.. and I press hdmi 4 on my atem mini, I'm viewing the extended display of my macbook. When I drag any window on my macbook to the far far right over to my extended screen, that is what I will see when I'm presenting in zoom (or quicktime) when I press hdmi 4. What I was sharing about OBS .. I open OBS on my macbook and I put it in "Studio Mode". I go to the program window (the right side), right-click, and select either "full screen projector (program) and select bmd hdmi" and that will automatically play whatever I'm playing in obs as the program. Or if I choose "Windowed Projector (program)" and if I move that to my extended display, whatever I play in OBS that is what will show when I'm on hdmi 4. There are multiple ways to achieve the same thing depending on your setup, but hopefully this helps you with the concept.

    Hello Alex,
I love your contents and am learning a lot. I have a question though. I do drum cover stuff on my channel and planning to do live streaming using atem mini all by myself. What i was thinking was to program all the scene change and camera positions and record them into one macro. I just hit that macro to run all the scene change while I am playing. That way i do not need to touch anything. But the problem is, how do i line up or sync up all these scene change I programed and the audio that I play along with? I was hoping to find some tip from this video but it was not quite what I was looking for. Do you think there is any way?

@David Lovrien - yes, of course. 2 ways: 1) You need to check RTMP server address and streaming key of your YT scheduled stream (in YT Live Control Room) and input those in your Atem Software Control [and now you can stream directly from ATEM MINI PRO connected to ethernet] 2) You can use ATEM as USB webcam and stream directly from YT Live Control Room with atem connected via usb.
