I’m always surprised at the valve check expense requirements on these bikes. Yes, it’s nice to know information before you buy, but it’s hard to believe folks shopping in this price category will have maintenance expense be a huge factor. First valve check doesn’t come until 14k, IIRC, and you CAN learn to do it yourself with proper tools, as I did on my K1200S. While you have it apart, you can easily do other things like change plugs (if needed) and flush coolant.
Nice overview. I was able to test ride both the R 18 B and K 1600 B on the same day. What a smooth engine that K 1600 has. I thoroughly enjoyed them both in different ways. @Texas2Tires
@@johnpflug1567 look at the handlebar and then look at the handlebars on a K1600GT you will see the difference. I also Asked the dealer if these were switched or an option, he said there standard.
I've heard that BMW's are very expensive to maintain. Not sure, but is this true. Because the Honda Goldwing is not, so I think that should also be mentioned when doing comparing it to anything else. Your thoughts, , ,
The peg position has the knees bent quite a lot for a touring bike. Might be a challenge doing a long haul if your over 6ft. (Yes I am aware it has Highway boards)
The bags still just look like an after thought, I was hoping BMW would've did a better job at the integration of the bags on the bagger! But the price doesn't seem all to bad compared to the competition, naturally I read the comment with the high service cost, but then I guess it's like owning a H-D....
I get 42-45 on the hwy if I’m not getting on it too hard and I have a road glide with a 124 in it running around 11.7:1 compression .. she likes to party
Top speed? Or more to the point is it governed and if so at what speed? I would be bummed if I bought one and it was governed at 120. With that motor I need to open it up and roll at 140-150 if I should so happens to be on a deserted road, on a Sunday morning, in July, at dawn.
This is a bagger. Did the review say anything about the luggage? This has no trunk or even a sissy bar for strapping on a duffel bag. What's up with that?
I'm in this same boat. I know the k1600b has more to offer for the money than the rocket 3, but the rocket 3 seems like it's more reliable and fun. Basically, the k1600b is the logical choice, but the rocket 3 is the emotional choice for me lol.
Yall save your money and avoid these bikes...oil change alone is over $300. Worse thing many owners complain about is it's instability on the highway, especially the k1600 grand america. I know because I own one. Bmw knows it's unstable and unsafe as well which is why they limit it to 100 mph.
Awesome bike but working on it not gonna be pretty Harleys take money to make quick enough and handle well. But working on them is doable in your garage
Nice bike. Dual mufflers are too small, LOL. What’s up with that silly looking BMX style handle bar. I’ll stick with my lighter and very quick FJR 1300
Because they wanted it to be more of a cruiser, they put round bars on it so that all the cruiser bolt-on accessories would fit. The GT and GTL have sport bars. But if you like your FJR riding position, you wouldn’t like the B most likely, anyway.
Beware of this Bike out of warranty, it’s an endless money pit. And remember, the valve check cost for the obligatory service will cost you nearly $1000 👎😵💫‼️
@@AdamWaheed Some context: having owned an ST1300 (lovely 'open road' long distance tourer), this bmw is similar in size and I've come to the conclusion that I'd prefer to ride long distances on something with 2 wheels that doesn't have a curb weight of some 750 lbs in order to carry some luggage. For me, 'light is right'...and these bulky/heavy/thirsty bikes are simply too specialised to enjoy on any road other than 'vast open spaces' where these bikes thrive in this niche.

I test rode a 2018 model last summer and was impressed with how light it felt compared to the GoldWing.
That motor really sets it apart ---
It sure does. What an engine. Wow, just wow.
Sounds like F1 at high rpm

does it have reverse gear?

Great review of one of the best bikes on the road
Thanks man. Well said. Ride safe over there.
You just sold me on this BMW 1600 Bagger ! Great review ! Thank you so much !
Definitely seemed like an honest review. Great job
As always, a great review
No mention of the new for 22 TFT dash?
Almost $38,000 in Canada with a set of handlebars from a bike worth $10,000 it just looks dumb when sat on it compared to the K1600GT version.
Please explain your handlebar comment.

K1600B pricing depreciation is faster than avalanche 😢 if like to own one look for an used below 4,000 miles in 8-10 months time
The display, BMW. We need a bigger display!
It’s one to consider. Maybe the GT is more my speed. I want that engine.
Why haven’t you guys reviewed the Suzuki gsxs1000gt yet??

Bro, I owned 2022 bmw ga, you cant compare Honda to Bmw in terms of speed, exhaust sound and technology in general. You pay more you get more

European premium bikes come with stability control standard. Harley it’s an option(RDRS) and only on touring models.
Great cruiser bike with extra power everywhere if needed
I miss my '79 CBX 😪
My next door neighbor had that bike. It was an incredible ride.
32 mpg??? - I was getting 45-47 mpg on my K 1660B. You must be Redlining every gear.

Is there a "M" pkge?

Not this time. But I should have something on my hard drives for added video content.
💥💥 32 MPG…?? It’s a gas pig. My 1993 K1100RS gets 46. 100 HP. ABS. She flies and doesn’t ask for much to eat at 591 lbs.
Depends on the rider. Many get over 40 on it. I don’t, but I’m always hustling mine (K1600GT, but almost as heavy, so still a good comparison).
I LOVE IT...👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽💯💯💯
They gotta make it more aggressive and sleek like the newer Road glide. Idk why but its to much of of a old man touring bike still.

Horribly designed for maintenance. K Bikes are nice but not worth the cost long term.
It’s designed for fast sport touring first, service second 🤷🏻♂️ if you want a bagger that’s easier to work on, HD sells the Road King.
