  • I bought a 2019 BMW K1600GT with plan of long distance touring. I started using it for daily commute just to get familiar with the motorcycle at slow speeds. However, over days I realized that this is an excellent commuter for my situation. I have shared my thoughts here.

I have a 2022 K1600GT. I was concerned about the weight and the handling, but so far no issues. The engine is so smooth, and has lots of power and torque. It handles the twisties very well too. Ride safe!

Hey Robby, liked your vid! I had a 2014 GTL with 12 k miles (reviews on my channel) and loved the bike but absolutely hated the factory seat. Would be in pain in about 15 minutes and numb in 25 minutes. I refused to spend $1000 plus on an aftermarket seat when the factory seat on a premium priced "touring" bike should at least be adequate. I was also concerned with possible future expensive repairs after seeing many horror stories. I sold the GTL and kept my Goldwing. I would like your honest opinion on that factory seat. Thanks for posting this vid!🦾

Hi, thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. Mine is 2019 GT and the seat is slightly different I think. I haven’t noticed any discomfort yet. The longest I have gone so far is around 4 hrs as am still getting used to the motorcycle. I have a plan of going on a long trip from Atlanta to South Dakota in July. I really want to take this motorcycle as it is super comfortable when it comes to road feel. However, I am a bit apprehensive about the gravel one might encounter near campsites.
I understand the pain. You can easily spend more the motorcycles worth in accessories and service on this. It is inexcusable if the stock seats on a GTL are not comfortable. That should be the top priority for these tourers.
I am hoping to do some of the maintenance in my own to keep expenses down!

@@RobbyLobby00 Thank you sir for answering! The previous owner of my GTL was a machinist by trade and he fabricated some aluminum blocks to try to alter the seating position to try to reduce the pain but was unsuccessful which is why he sold the bike. I guess knowing that made me an idiot for buying it.
You should be fine on the gravel by just making sure your feet are under you when you stop. Ride safe!

Thanks for the tip. I will check with a friend of mine who bought a GTL recently. Wondering if the problem is GTL specific

What are the crash bars that you have?

Bought off AliExpress. Looks well formed with 3/4” tubes

@@RobbyLobby00 how is the quality of the tubes? Do you think it can hold a rollover?

Definitely not flimsy. These felt solid and heavy. My motivation was to have minimal damage in tip off situations while starting and stopping. Hoping never to find out 😂

@@RobbyLobby00 I hope so, that model looks exactly the same as the wunderlich but much cheaper, I will go for a try. Thanks and safe rides

@@joaoleal5736 Yup. The install was pretty easy too. The only minor annoyance I have is that when I open the side case door I will have to push it away from the bars a bit as otherwise it rubs against the door. This could be an issue with all side case crash bars. The other issue I am concerned is that the ends of the engine bars are pretty close to my shin. I remember a friend mentioning in a crash this could be dangerous. I do wear pretty tall boots on highway rides but it is in the back of my mind. I will be glad to record a quick video on these for you if you are interested
