  • In this video I walk through the automation I have been developing to turn "monolith" style recordings into virtual instruments across Kontakt, DecentSampler and SFZ, which has been used to build various Pianobook instruments released by Christian Henson.
A big shout out to Dave Hilowitz for all his work on DecentSampler and help with Kontakt scripting. Also big thanks to Yaron and EvilDragon from Native Instruments for support with Creator Tools and Kontakt scripting.

my brain hurts...This was the most complicated thing I've seen. Im a beginner in sampling, how do you suggest I get started? Using Kontakt or Decent Sampler? Do you need to learn all this code to?

Sampling a piano is a bit complicated and really the monolith idea is supposed to make it simple because if you follow the recording template you shouldn’t need to know anything really about Kontakt or DecentSampler. That said, if you are just starting out, it’s probably a good idea to start with the How to Sample series on the Pianobook channel as it walks through the main concepts of sampling ua-cam.com/play/PL7LAW76xUv7FttHDqimvaUXXzAntkwPha.html

@Stephen Tallamy Music is there any way to code decent sampler instruments to be MPE compatible? I know that in Kontakt you can create 4 seperate instances of the instrument and assign them to different midi channels to make them MPE compatible, but can you do that in decent sampler too?
