I gave 'thumbs up' before the tune even started. I knew that if it was Patti.. I wouldn't be disappointed. Outstanding.

I've been playing this reel on the fiddle and playing somewhere between an Irish version and a bluegress , i've seen a few of your '365' videos & the way you've played the ornaments here and the overall version of this reel reinforces my previously formed opinion that you are a real darn good player of the fiddle , i.e. fiddle player :)

Paynter , yes my uncle Paul used to play a bit. This is a true fisherman’s song from PEI in that the origins of the song are as big as the one that got away . Played right , as it is here , we need not argue about the details . Fact is Don Messer blasted this puppy out over the waves after the war and now people know where it’s from , the heart of the maritimes !

Wonderful fiddling. Do you flatten your bridge? I hear many fiddlers do but I am unable to find any information on how to flatten it correctly

Fantastic! While this is no way to really know the origins of this tune I am thinking St Annes reel is a composition from the great
Manitoba Metis fiddler Andy Desjarlis. Although it was thought to be from the Maritimes via Don Messer who popularized the tune, he actually revered Desjalis as an musical genius and featured him in his programme, so likely "appropriated" it from him. . And besides there is a town of St. Annes in Manitoba, so that's make sense. If you are unfamiliar
with him it is because he is an unsung composer who needs to be recognized
since he is not well known unfortunately outside of the Metis community (an
Indigenous nation in Canada). He had released more than a dozen albums in
his heyday (1940s-60s). check out his version of St Anne's reel at @
