The power box works really well with powering the ASI1600.BTW the bundled packages you talk about with the ASIAir save you no money. Buying all 3 the ASIAir, camera and guide scope is exactly the same price at buying them all separately.Bit strange this I would have thought you would have saved a few bucks??

Using the AC adapter on your portable battery system is sort of crazy, since the portable power is using DC voltage and inverting it to AC. You plug in your ZWO adapter and it has to convert the voltage back to DC. Celestron mount power cables (at least for the AVX) have the same connector as the ZWO cooled cameras need and will plug into all the power outlet connections on the ASIAir. Then you can go straight to DC power.

Hi great video. I have been thinking on how to connect my Nikon 300mm f4 to an astro camera. Thanks for the explanation.

Désert & Etoiles I’d be interested in something like this but never seen anything.

The pocket power box I would recommend because it’s multi functions are worth every dime

Yep, ZWO does not package cameras with the DC power. Give me break. Great video.

The old EF adapter is terrible, get the new revision. Also, 2" filters fit in the adapters. Pretty awesome being able to use a filter inside the adapter with a wide lens. A rokinon 14mm and a triad filter from opt with your Asi camera and you're set.

Thanks Peter good info. The only issue with the ASIAir pro its not available to April there is a really long list of people that have purchased it.So there is a bit of a wait for this one

Yeah, I can't believe how long it keeps getting delayed. Thankfully I'll have quite a few tutorials on how to use it by the time most people get one!

So... You got a 12v power bank... That converts that 12v to mains AC... Which is then converted back to 12v? There must be a better way...

Cristi, The 12V power bank Peter uses also has a 12V output, so no need go to AC and then back to 12V. You are right - that would be very inefficient. Cables are readily available that will plug the 12V out of the box into the ASIair directly. Celestron sells them as well as Amazon.

Yeah, I ended up buying a 12V cable that will plug directly into the 12V plug on my battery, just waiting for it to arrive

You should add Peter, that you can't get an Asi Air Pro for love or money at the minute due to demand and the Corona virus outbreak.

One thing I never realized is that you can only shoot your camera lens wide open with a dedicated astro camera. I haven't experimented with my own lens to know the difference but I recall many who recommend shooting one stop less than wide open to give them a sharper image in the corners.

    • @mihaisaiph1

one stop is usually not enough. better results you can get by stopping the lens down two or even three steps, so you can get rid of more optical aberration.
for situations when the iris cannot be closed without being controlled by the camera (like shooting with astrocams via EOS-T2 adapters), you can always DIY aperture masks - basically some rings that match whatever focal ratio you need to use. that's how i did for my 300/4L lens: i cut some rings out of a plastic sheet (1mm laminated ABS), and mounted them in an empty filter holder, thus i can make the lens shoot at f/5, f/6.. etc.

Is it possible to power the cooling fan on the main camera from the ASIAir Pro or would you recommend a separate power supply for that?

    • @PeterZelinka
      @PeterZelinka  4 роки тому +1

Yes, the ASIAir Pro can power the cooling fan on the camera. That's how I do it

Could one replace the ASIAir with a raspberry pi?

There are plenty of Raspberry Pi options (the ASIAir and Pro models are based around them). Do a search on Astroberry 2.0.1 for instance. You simply download the software image onto a micro SD card and mount in a Raspberry Pi 4. I use a 2GB ram version and do my power distribution (and automatic dew control) with Pegasus Power Box. I power the RPi from a USB charging port on a TP-link 7 port 12V powered USB3.0 hub.
