    Very nice approach to showing folks how to plug in and use this, but I think that there is a minor point of backing up the card that contains the software up before use should be stated. That being said, Peter, your approach is fantastic and very much appreciated. Thank you so much for your time and effort in this video!

      does the ASI AIR come with that micro sd card with the operating system loaded on it, or do you have to buy the micro sd card to back it up? Thanks!

    I know this video was uploaded a while back, but just for reference you can't power a number of ASI Cooled cameras from the ASIair pro and it'll cause issues if you try. ASI6200/ASI2600/ASI533/ASI071MC all require dedicated power to cool correctly.

    I like these videos your doing Peter. I have the 1st version Asi Air and I love it. I'm weighing up whether to get the Pro and do the buy back deal but as there's none around at the minute I get a bit longer to decide. You forgot to mention the live stacking feature, which many seem to like. Not sure if your aware that the 1.4.2 version is in beta and you can download it now to try. Zwo said the full release should be available soon. One of the cool features is you can view all the images that you've taken as your t as taking them. They are put into folders, Live, Preview and Autorun.
    Keep up the good work with the videos 👍🏻

    Hello Peter, 3 questions and 2 comments:
    1- What is the maximum amperage for each DC output jacks?
    2- What is the maximum input amperage to power the ASIAIR PRO ?
    Comment 1- It would be nice if you could update your video with information related to amperage on the electrical DC jacks.
    Thank you, I really appreciative your videos great job and great man. Thank you again.

    I’ve found the 5G network will be more stable allowing slightly more distance if one turns off cell network if you are using a cell/Wifi capable device. If one’s iPad is busy moving images, it’s nice if the device is not checking email, checking notifications etc. I also do not use 0.01s bias times. The editor pad will accept faster times here so e.g. for my zwo 178mc I use 40 microsecond bias times and the AsiAir will accept that.

    • @legolator
      @legolator 4 роки тому

      @@PeterZelinka I just wanted to chime in here. The ASIAir does not act as a wifi-client, only as a hotspot. It also uses a static IP-address for the Wifi of 10.0.0.1, wether or not it's a /24 is not obvious but I would assume so. For the LAN port it seems it might do DHCP so it would get assigned an IP from your LAN, and in the app there's a option to specify a IP to connect to. So unless you do some modification of the wifi settings on the OS, ie: putting the SD-card in your pc and editing the settings, you won't be able to use the ASIAir as a client on your own wifi network.
      But you know, getting a 50ft ethernet cable to your yard is probably easier than fixing that unless you know what you are doing.
      Thanks for the video, great as always.
      Disclaimer: I don't own a ASIAir pro myself (sadly waiting for it just like everybody else). I am a network engineer and a linux user (used to be admin) since 1998 so that's my technical background to all this. And i installed the asiair app on my phone and checked what it tried to connect too by default and 10.0.0.1 is the hardcoded IP it expects to find a ASIAir PRO on.

    Thanks for the video, i just ordered my ZWO setup and this helped!
    Quick question: the ASIAIR Pro does NOT have a AC power adapter included in the box?
    If not, ill have to order one... and also that would be a scumbag move, how can you sell a $300 item without a power supply?
    Thanks!

    • @PeterZelinka
      @PeterZelinka  4 роки тому +2

      Correct, the ASIAir Pro does not come with an AC power adapter. You will get a bunch of 5.5x2.1mm power cables in the box though, for connecting various devices to the ASIAir Pro's power ports.
      According to some folks online who know more about power than I do, they actually recommended sticking with a 12V power adapter. Therefore, I purchased this power adapter to use with my external battery:

    Polar alignment with asiair pro..... I notice it is putting Polaris closer to the outside circle in the reticle when I polar align. With guiding still got slightly elongated stars with 3 minute exposures.
    I had better luck polar aligning "manually" through the Skyguider's polar scope. Then got good
    3 minute test shots. Curious as to why this would be.

    • @PeterZelinka
      @PeterZelinka  3 роки тому

      I've been noticing the same thing lately. The ASIAir alignment hasn't been matching the polar scope alignment.
      I just end up re-doing the alignment visually after all my gear has been attached, rather than relying on the app.

    Another tutorial shows imaging in LIVE mode instead of Autorun. Using Live I had trouble finding where to select the number of frames (Repeat). When I recovered my 100 frames for DSS, they all appeared Black, and DSS discarded all of them. My USB saved both a JPEG and a FIT file for each photo (why?). The JPEG was tiny but showed stars. Someone said I didn't stretch the histogram. Just saying that isn't very helpful when there is no manual for the PRO. Don't know if those photos are junk or not.

      Thankfully darks are easy with a dedicated astro camera. The ASIAir allows you to set the sensor temperature manually, so you can easily replicate the sensor conditions when you took your light frames.
      That would allow me to completely focus on taking light frames at night, then worry about the dark frames on a cloudy night, or even during the day.

      I have used darks from various sessions and even created a fake dark in photoshop and although that does not work as well from a noise point, it did give a better over all out put from DSS.

      Hi Ramesh, I have a Canon 60 D, Canon 100-400mm lens and the Star Adventurer tracker with no experience in astrophotography. I bought Peter’s course and they helped get me up and running. They are done very well and saved me a lot of time trying to search all the You Tube videos. Most of which aren’t set up the same. Good luck!

    Assume you could easily swao out a smartphone for a good Android tablet?
    Thoughts in this vs a laptop setup with PHD2 and SharpCap? Obviously smaller but reasonably as capable?

    On the transferring files to your computer .. does it store any images on the little Micro SD card or is everything stored on the USB thumb drive? Seems it’d be easiest to just pull the thumb drive out when your done and pop it into the laptop .. no?

    Great Video Peter, I am not sure if you have come across this situation or anyone else who uses the ASIAIR Pro but what do you do if you need 5 usbports ? with my set up I need:
    #1 USB 3.0 to my ASI533MC Pro
    #2 USB 3.0 to my flash Drive
    #3 USB 2.0 To my Guide Camera
    #4 USB 2.0 to my HEQ5 Pro Mount
    #5 USB2.0 to my ZWO EAF Module on my REDCAT 51
    I am looking at a 4 port USB Hun in with 2.0 or 3.0 and powering it from the ASIAIR Pro.
    Anyone else has this issue or tried this combination?

    Nice info. I wonder how this would work if you used a DSLR as your camera.

      I THINK it has an output for a shutter release. So you wouldn’t be able to use it to store or view the images right? But you could guide and set your shutter speed/ intervals and all that. I think.

      @@bostronomy That just hit me when I read your comment about not being able to see the images as they are being taken if you used a DSLR. I bought a used T3i thinking it was compatible with the ASIair. It says so on the ZWO website. :/

      @@dlg521 yes I have a 6D Mark II and now that I have my ASI Air Pro, I can confirm that it will definitely work to store and view your images in real time. It’s freakin fantastic.

    stupid question - how does this compare to the pegasus powerbox ultimate v2? From what I can see and understand, the asiair doesn't have any support for dew heaters to be plugged in, and fewer USB3 ports. On the other side of the coin, the powerbox lacks wireless support (not really an issue for me to be honest). Have I understood the differences correctly?

    When I get to the step shown at 6:04 (all lights on asi air correct, connected to Asi air ok, app downloaded and launched I do not get to the screen shown at 6:05 but a screen that says New Firm Ware detected current version 0.01 Latest version 6.76. Then when I click "update now" it says "Update Failed". Simultaneously it diconnected from the AsiAir and re-connected tomy internet wifi (presumably so it can get the download).
    Probably I have to do everything in some very special sequence - will try various combinations.

    ok, after the install failed I kept the app open but switched back from the internet connection to the asi-air wifi connection, hit "retry", and this time it started to install but got stuck at 47%. Will try again.

      Cigarette lighter probably doesn't provide sufficient amperage to power a Raspberry Pi (which is all this is).

    I'm going to be running my astrogear from my backyard. DO I still need a portable power station, or can I just run an extension cord with say a surge protector that allows for multiple outlets to plug into? And if that is okay, can you get a cable for the ASIAIR Pro so I can connect to a normal outlet?
    I should also note that I'll be running a rig for deep astrophotography. Specifically, the Orion 8 inch newtonian reflector. So I'm hoping something like this could work.

    • @ringod123
      @ringod123 4 роки тому

      Portable power stations can still be really handy as they most of the time already have the correct connections (cigarette lighter ports etc) to attach all your powered devices.

      astronomy-imaging-camera.com/product/acdc-adapter-12v-5a-for-cooled-cameras This is what you need to connect directly to standard 120V house power. Of course if you live in a country with 230V, then you will need the typical adapter.
