I love the Stones. So which is your favourite Stones song? Any songs that particularly show their American or British accents? Gimme Shelter (or comments if you like!)
Very nice video!!! I remember reading somewhere that Mick said Brian' Jones' accent would often confuse interviewers in the early days. I guess what he meant to say was they expected to hear a street, or working class accent from a Rolling Stone.
Someone put together a sequence of clips for TV, with Jagger using a different accent in each. So, for example, there was a posh clip, then cockney, southern states American and so on.
MJ and the rolling stones is a highly successful corporate brand, similar to say Disney, Unilever or Apple. He's maintained, honed and adjusted the image to maximise appeal to the many time periods during which it has operated. Changing accents is just a small but necessary part of marketing (and why not?). All credit to MJ and his team.
I disagree with your statement that Mick Jagger's changing accent is calculated. This is an utterly commonplace and well studied linguistic phenomenon that is known as code-switching. People who live and work with people from different social backgrounds will unconsciously change their accent to feel more comfortable with the person they are speaking to. It is not an affectation, on the contrary an indication of natural linguistic ability.
As a professor of linguistics, I have to disagree with the notion that Mick consciously changes his accent or dialect whenever he feels like it. First is the fact that virtually everyone who resides in completely different countries will pick up many different pronunciations of many different words, most often not purposely. Second, what on earth would you think would make Mick Jagger even consider changing his accent? What/why would this guy feel like doing that? Makes ZERO sense to me
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day also tomorrow is Wednesday is my younger brother birthday ❤😊
Thanks!

True - it didn't fit his persona, much like Keith Moon's.

There you go. His accent in the Rutles is very posh sounding.
Very interesting.
Thanks!
This is not the first Stones album in 18 years. They released Blue & Lonesome in 2016. (great album too)
Of original material I meant to say but yes, thanks, anyway.
@@BritishNativeSpeaker 👍
Mick’s father was a University lecturer.
Right - wonder how he felt about Mick's life
@@BritishNativeSpeakermust've been happy when the millions started rolling in!
His dad was actually a PE teacher at grammar school.
Even happier
No, but Jagger attended LSE for a couple of years before concentrating on his music career.

True enough
Currently watching the documentary Stones in Exile about the making of Exile on Main St. Very interesting!
TRES Cool
Can you please do Elton John's accent, he sounds very posh. He's from Pinner.
That's a good call, we'll see!
@@BritishNativeSpeaker thanks!

Do Keith Richards because his accent I think is in between
Good point
And where’s f mick??
I think Keith refers to of bunch of men as “cats”.
Indeed

Each to their own
He’s middle class playing a working class rebel. It’s a performance.
I’m from Dartford and not a single person sounds like him
That's because he's Mick
Why should they? Jagger has not lived in Dartford for many decades. The idea that your accent is fixed from childhood is false.
He did a fake accent to compete with the Beatles regional accents.
Hmm interesting
You ll be totally amazed if i tell you that Mick speaks perfect spanish, i mean just a few sentences but his spanish sounds very natural.
Well, you'd imagine he'd be a polyglot. Typical Mick.
Everything about Jagger is fake, calculated .
Give examples
I agree, he even said anyone who doesn't try to make as much money from the music industry is an idiot.
