I was born and bought up in East London but dont fit nicely into any of those accents, I certainly dont have cockney but also not RP. I feel like East London has its own new accent, which no one mentions its probably MLE and abit of RP, lets just call it MLERP. 😅 Where is so diverse, and I do two jobs, one where people speak with RP and also work for West Ham FC where most people speak Cockney, also most the maintenance workers and market workers have been cockney, but also alot of asian and africans in East London but where I done a law degree I was encourged to pronounce things properly, so its almost like every setting has a differnt London accent for me, so I probably have a combination of many accents of London, rather than just one.

Hello Sir! I am the one who is looking for a native speaker of London, England, who generally speaks English with Standard British accent or Modern RP accent. I am Indian. I generally speak English with a Standard British accent. But I don't know how I sound like, whether my accent is right or not. Therefore, I am looking for someone who can assess my accent and confirm whether my accent is accurate or not. I want someone to tell me if my accent is really British Modern RP or not, just by listening to my audio.

Dear Jon, I just wanted to drop you a quick line to say that I think your videos and your explanations are great! I'm gradually learning to pronounce things in a way that's more "British" than what we were taught at school in Germany. I find it frustrating that when we were students, we could choose to speak and write in either BE or AE. As a result, we ended up orientating ourselves more towards AE. I wish I could really manage to sound like a Brit, but unfortunately I can't eliminate the accent of my German mother tongue. I think we Germans who don't live among native English speakers are doomed to forever carry this stigma when speaking English. But with the help of your videos I'm on the right track! Thanks a lot!

hey there is this movie where there are 4 lads and they are into crimes like hitting people. One day their leader gets caught. He gets worked on by the scientists and an approach to cure his behaviour. so they make the leader watch certain empathy generating video I guess. they induce fake tears in his eyes while making him watch the videos. then he is set free. later on even the thought of crime would make him feel sick and nauseated. people discuss how it was unethical to fix his nature by giving him symptoms that would suppress his nature. Hearing everyone with this "MLE" accent no matter what region of the UK they are in and no matter their cultural background is beyond cringe. This is how young black men used to talk in the early 2000s, no other races... and the speech was all derived from Patois, Jamaican broken English. Everyone else from every other culture are culturally appropriating to the point this is now called "MLE" and they will never admit it's simply influenced by Patois because they're all BEGS.

He's maintained, honed and adjusted the image to maximise appeal to the many time periods during which it has operated. Changing accents is just a small but necessary part of marketing (and why not?). All credit to MJ and his team.

I disagree with your statement that Mick Jagger's changing accent is calculated. This is an utterly commonplace and well studied linguistic phenomenon that is known as code-switching. People who live and work with people from different social backgrounds will unconsciously change their accent to feel more comfortable with the person they are speaking to. It is not an affectation, on the contrary an indication of natural linguistic ability.
