    Obviously you like the Sightron scope. How does the glass compare, and would use it high powered rifle competition?

    I prefer to call them KYCs targets, Know Your Capabilities (avoid “kill”)...”KICKS” TARGETS. I shoot mine at 25 yds, peep sights...Ruger Precision Rimfire with homemade bloop tune extension, firing CCI Quiet 22’s. It’s great with the snow background for contrast ( age 74). The 1/2” had me psyched for a while....got past it!

      KYL stands for Know Your Limits... so I'm confused where the "kill" reference came from. What am I missing?

    • @johnstewart8849

      Long Range Shooters of Utah When people TALK about these targets, they call them KILLS targets...”kyls”.....that’s not much help in promoting the sport versus the “red flag law” sponsors and supporters.

      @@johnstewart8849 LOL!!! I've never heard anyone sound it out like that. They refer to it as K...Y...L. or Know Your Limits. I think you're reading way too far into it. It's only a KYL or True KYL if you lose all your point when you miss, if you keep your points but you have to stop when you miss they call it a LYL, or Learn Your Limits. Either way it's harmless and you can tell the tin foil hat wearing folks it's a "Learn Your Limits" target and not sound it out as it were a work because it's an acronym.

      @@LongRangeShootersofUtah In with the old guy, I wouldn't say it's harmless: optics and politics can kill our sport. Glad people in your area refer to them as K.Y.L.'s. but don't take it lightly: if you hear someone refer to them as "kill targets", take the time to correct them.
      The other side seems to get the power of politics better than our side, I think because we are more literal. This can be a serious problem because by the time we realize there's a problem, guns are already getting banned and gun range business licenses revoked. We need to stay way ahead of these things.

    Got a fixed 4X scope on my 22. I think this is not what you need for this kind of match...
    Or maybe why not after all. Do you think it's doable?

    • @LongRangeShootersofUtah
      @LongRangeShootersofUtah  5 років тому +5

      I think you’d be at a significant disadvantage. Don’t let it keep you for showing up and shooting but I’d suggest moving to a different optics like an Athlon FFP that focuses to 25 yards or less and has at least a 5-25 or 6-24 magnification change.

    7moa is ~28 'clicks': I'm thinking dial 4moa up so the near target is 4 deep in the tree, holding 3 up on the far target. Would be hella fun to shoot!

  • @ImNoBSING

    Not only is the fall of SFP in the way how it does not stay equal to the target, but the whole idea that you will never get 100% same zoom that you previously had.
    You put your zoom to 20x but really the scope will be at 20.05, 20.1 or 19.95! This was taught to me by Rex :)

      Also, this video was made 5 years ago: FFP scopes have come down in price a lot in that time.

    Why zero @ 25 yards? 50 seems to make more sense. Is it just to emulate centerfire drop @500, or? School me.

      I suggest you join the nearest reservist / gun enthusiast club and ask if they can consider having these matches. Even here in nordics this is slowly rising in popularity. But I guess it needs people who actively ask for it and commit.

    Is it worth bedding and free floating the barrel on a .22 or don't they have enough recoil for it to matter? I've been thinking about doing it since I have some bedding compound left over from doing other rifles.

    • @wilfdarr
      @wilfdarr 4 роки тому +2

      So I know you wrote this 5 years ago and you probably don't have this question any more, but it's a good question so I'll take the time in case someone else has the question.
      There's 2 ways to think about this problem: a dampened barrel (one with a pressure pad between the barrel and forestock) will have a more complicated harmonic structure but much less amplitude so will shoot a large range of ammo more consistently: in other words it'll be less likely to hate some ammo, but will also be much harder to tune, either by finding ammo it "likes" or with a barrel tuner, neither will make a ton of difference.
      A free floated barrel on the other hand will be far pickier with ammo but when you find ammo it likes it should be very obvious; throw a tuner on the end and now you can decide which ammo your gun "likes".

      ***** Targets are built by the match director & founder of the 22 LR Marksman Challenge - Rodney Downs. Email me at longrangeshootersofutah@gmail.com and I'll gladly share his info. The only target the ships is the small KYL. You can look him up on facebook under "Vapor Trail Targets"

      Long Range Shooters of Utah Great stuff! How thick are the respective targets? The 25 yrd seems to be a "spinner" while impacts at 100 are barely noticeable... Nice shooting by-the-way!

    • @LongRangeShootersofUtah
      @LongRangeShootersofUtah  9 років тому

      Well the small KYL is mild steel of some sort. It's basically bar stock for the small targets and discs for the larger. The large KYL is AR 500 so you can shoot it with anything. Obviously the discs are much larger, and heavier because they are ar500 and the bullet is not hitting as hard at that distance.

    • @KrisSays
      @KrisSays 9 років тому

      Interesting... That explains a lot. I take it the mild and AR500 is 1/2"?

    • @LongRangeShootersofUtah

  • @drelipe340

    Very interesting match , my airgun rifle zero at 50 mts , i would have to ajust 56 clicks up on 1/4MOA scope to shoot at 100mts. As every 16 clicks we have one dot whatever distance , i would simply between 3,5 and 4 dots up. That´s the airgun reality , @@

      Are vortex scopes pretty big on .22 or are they more of a bigger caliber scope. Was wondering how They take to recoil or if they are pretty rugged across the caliber range?? As I have a few different rifles.

Just do a quick Google search n see for yourself. I got a 457 and from factory, I got the trigger down to 1.5lbs and its amazing. My friend got his under 1lb but I don't like my trigger that light. Very accurate and the wood n fitment is amazing.
