      MrB82901 3rd Saturday of each month at the Hobble Creek Range in Springville. There's a morning and afternoon match. If you give enough notice there are several guys with extra rifles and you can shoot the match. If you don't give a couple month's in advance the match is always sold out.

    Sorry for the dumb question, but why are all the shots so quiet? It doesn't seem like many of these rifles are suppressed, and yet, still quit. Clearly, I'm new to this, which hopefully explains my ignorance.

    • @LongRangeShootersofUtah
      @LongRangeShootersofUtah  8 років тому +4

      +Lou Balestriere Most match grade 22 LR is sub sonic as passing thru the sound barrier can affect accuracy. To keep things as consistent as possible most all match grade 22 lr ammo is subsonic making it very quiet even unsuppressed. Also the bolt rifles are quieter than semi's as they let the gas escape which is noisy.

    • @LouBalestriere
      @LouBalestriere 8 років тому

    • @1ndomitus
      @1ndomitus 6 років тому +1

      Try some CCi "Quiet 710fps" in your rifle, especially a bolt, it's quiet enough for *indoor* shooting from a Bolt Action.

    • @j.g4104
      @j.g4104 5 років тому +1

      No it's not a Dumb question at all man we all Have to learn it at some point when were learning to shoot . But no there not using Silencers there's actually a couple responses to that question about the .22 caliber . Like the first comment above mentioned the .22 Caliber rounds are Subsonic ( low Velocity / Below the speed of sound)
      At subsonic the round Velocity doesn't reach the speed of sound , which makes it quite & you dont hear that loud Boom from the muzzle & the crack sound in the air from the round reaching Supersonic speeds IE. The speed of sound.
      also because of the rounds size, shape & how much powder the rounds contain for Both .22 Long & short
      .22 Shorts are really Quiet rounds on there own. again because they contain less powder then Longs & being at a lower subsonic velocity . But I'm about 95% sure there firing .22 Longs here. And with Longs there still fairly quite when fired from Rifles. So with the .22 Caliber weather its Shorts or longs because of the rounds velocity the longer the barrel the quiter the shot because more of the energy from the powder going off is being directed more pushing the bullet through the barrel on a rifle. Allowing more energy behind the round Then shorter the barrel like a a .22 pistol the rounds are going to be much louder then a rifle. Because not only is the end of the barrel closer to where the powders going off in the camber but all of that energy that was pushing that round through the barrel of the rifle is now not able to & is escaping much faster ie. Making a loser Bang . But That's pretty much the simplest Answer to that question. But I truly hope that I was able to Answer your question for you if there was anything else I could Possibly help Answer I'll gladly do my best to help you out .

      Get a Savage Mark II fvsr and save about a thousand. A 40 dollar Pinty 4-16x50 scope and a 22 dollar bipod and the rifle, it will shoot .3 inches at fifty yards out of the box. If you can't hit them all, it's the rush or the shooter, not the rifle.

    • @ashleynicely1046
      @ashleynicely1046 6 років тому +1

      The shooter at 15:10 is using a savage mark II fvsr with a custom stock, hit all eight. It isn't the rifle. It's more likely guys who have been in the game for a long time are reluctant to admit that an off-the-shelf $240 Savage 22 is equal to their $2000 custom job.

Mine aren't the giant ones you see on bench rest setups, they basically look like a flash hider with a sliding ring for 1/2"x28tpi. Send me an address and I'll send one to you guys at LRSOU to test out on me. I owe you all that for the stuff I have learned on your site! Thanks,

    It's really pretty Rude to be Talking & Laughing that loudly that close to the shooter on the line while there trying to concentrate. I can definitely see that the weather's not that great & there aren't any other building near by ( that i can see) but if that's the case then the RO should have Addressed it at the beginning in the briefing that the shooting line should be Divided so that the shooters that are on deck & on the line for that round are standing by . then ALL other non essential personnel & other shooters that aren't in that round Ect. at the other end where they can talk ,laugh & bullshit about whatever but without Disturbing those who are on deck or on the line shooting . I understand it's all in good fun to get together with friends have a good time but it's still a Competition. I've done plenty of them & still do . So if this was the case at one I'd been too I would of most definitely had a word with not only the RO but also the event Coordinator about it . But thankfully the events I go to things like this DO NOT HAPPEN. Everyone is professional, respects the shooter on line mean while understanding chit chat like that isn't meant for on the line & theres Designated areas for stuff. And if the weather's isn't very good then its planned ahead to either have another building nearby by and/or have Canopy tents set up for everyone else . And that's for All events weather it's Small bore , .22L rifle competition such as this or a Large Caliber ,Center fire Long range precision Competition , 3 Gun Event or open to the public privately held gatherings . It just would not be allowed. Or at the very least it's taken care of so that its doesn't happen . People lose concentration on the line & forget Range Safety because there more worried about turning around to talking with there buddy then paying attention to there fire arm. In my opinion the Range Officers at this event are Seriously lacking

      skatterbrain , sorry got to give you a 👎🏻. My understanding of this particular shoot is a fun day out with a light hearted competition to make it interesting. At my village club back in the day (60’s) we had two of these type of shoots, one at Christmas time the other mid summer, happy memories for sure, the competition side was as always hotly contested but never overly serious, and bare in mind most of our shooters were in and shot in national leagues. None of the shooters here, as far as I could see, were in the least bit pi#@*d about the atmosphere around them. It was their party, their rules. If you don’t like it don’t enter! Kind regards from across the pond.

      @@clivenewton7609 doesn't matter any proper Range officer would absolutely not allow such a thing on there range . So weather you give a a thumbs down really doesn't matter what so ever nor do I care. There's on range Safety Regulations for a reason & what was done in the 60s isn't how things are today . And if a club or a Association operates as such then there not going to be around very long nor should they .

I'm not saying it's a perfect call but especially with this particular guy once he makes a call it's highly unlikely he's going to change it. We don't have the luxory of instant replay as time on the range is limited and at that time there were a lot of shooters in attendance. I'm not trying to argue with you on any of this BTW. I'm just filling in the blanks and I was there and I shot those matches for years and have since shot in NRL22 for years and placed #6 in 2019 and #7 in 2018 at NRL Nationals. You just dont' see many, if any savages among the top shooters. I'm not saying they suck because they're solid rifles but they're not the best on the market. If they were all the top shooter would be using them and they're not. In base class there are far more as they meet those requirements but even then I don't recall seeing them near as much as CZ455 for example.
