I totally get what you mean - everything he does no matter how simple is just so tight and goes so smoothly around the rest of the band. Top drumming. Plus that snare sound is beautiful.
When I go to a Bonamassa concert I'm divided as to whether I'm there more to see Joe or Tal. I wouldn't say anything so outrageous as "I'm there to see Tal" to my friends, so I simply say "love me some Tal," hoping they'll focus on him a bit more than they might if they're dyed-in-the-wool Bonamassaheads (as I am too!). He's everything you want in a drummer, filling a band's percussive and time-holding needs perfectly. Oddly, though Joe has praised Tal, he's praised other drummers of his more-in public, at least. Could be he figures he's shot off too many "best ever" exaltation bullets and wants to dish them out more carefully from now on.
The drummer is great, very great! But to say he's one of the best you've ever seen, is a bit weird hahah. I present to you: Simon Phillips, Chad Smith, Dave Weckl, Keith Carlock, Dennis Chambers, and not to forget the master of groove: Jeffrey Porcaro. (R.I.P.)
This song is ridiculous. Such a old school groove. The drum groove should be taught in percussion school. Can't stop listening to this song. Been in my car cd for weeks. The verse where the drummer is on the ride cymbal at 3:22 is best I have heard in years. Well done gentleman its a masterpiece.
Never knock an artist for spreading their wings. Only for folding them in. Funk is a great fit for him if only for a little while. Would also love to hear him on jazz, bluegrass, Americana and anything else he wants to pursue. A true artist ventures out, and Joe is that dude.
Oh Yeah!! This takes me back to Herbie Hancock, Stanley Clark, Chic Corea... when funk was king. This is so cool... like it or not, there's not friggin way to sit still when listening to this groove.
Well said! Players like Clapton and SRV all went through phases of experimentation and it only served to stengthen their own styles when they went back to the creative drawing boards. Because that's what refining and honing your craft is all about. Eric never lost his touch, and if Stevie was alive, neither would he. Fair play to Joe on this for following his heart. It will ultimately make him a better player. And hell, he's pretty damn good already! ;-)
Man..... let the man(Joe) have some fun...Give him a break...He can play any groove he has a mind too....just some funk....chill......let the awesomeness FLOW BRO...:)
The album showed up yesterday, and is worth the coin to get it. If the end up doing any shows around here ,I'll be in line to buy tickets, but I doubt they'll do many shows with the amount of gigs Joe already does every year.
i really wish i thought of this name first! that & johnny superbad & the bullet catchers! you cats are killin'!all i see is a car chase/bank robbing montage in my head when this plays!
What are some bands that are your inspiration for similar types of 'funky' music? Love your music, I have all three albums but would love some other recommendations. I discovered the Motet and they have some similar feel, groovy funky music.
Gone but will never be forgotten 😢 Jewell Yocum. À very Psychotic Chef, and an amazingly, phenomenal vocalist!
the drummer has to be one of the best ive ever seen. throughout the album he just has the cleanest and most fitting fills ive ever heard
