Stanlee just negated the entire purpose of death battle in 1 minute
Eh not really as that a battle without writer or story involvement. In vs debate where actually looking for a winner not what would make for a cool story
@@spinozilla2421 Even that is determined by circumstances which people have to set up, so they’re still being script writers in the end.
@@spinozilla2421 That was Stan's entire point, though; it doesn't matter whose numbers are bigger, what matters is what would make a more compelling story. Trying to have serious power level debates based purely in logic and feats is a waste of time because you're leaving out the most important part.
@@samfivedot expect no since the isn't the important part of factor

Indeed a good reminder not to take this shit too seriously
They would just say writer making a character win just because they won't them to win would make them inconsistent and irrelevant
@@godversesans5152 and then you realise how many power-ups exist in every media where the protagonists miraculously discovers their new power or that they have been training off-screen and acquired this new rasen-kamehame-domain-bankai power and they destroy the villain. All that matters is a good story
@gabrielvasile1360 I do realize that but here stan Lee just says it's who ever the writers wants to win. When doing vs battles we aren't thinking of plot as why would we we don't know what's going to happen and plus they do cross over matches. Stan Lee even made examples like hulk vs thor. Simple right who would win a fight. According to him it's what ever the writers wants he didn't mention plot or story when saying that.
@@godversesans5152 but in the end the winner of the fight is whoever the writer of said fight wants to win
this guy just negated every vs battle arguement in existence, Stan Lee is a legend
All he did was legitimize arguments to influence what winners in battles future writers will write.
He also negated not just western also all Anime especially Isekai Author in general.
Oh my god, you're a genius Stan!
This is the correct response to all these "who would win" arguments.
MarshmallowSaucers Yes it is, but they always say it is a cop out.
It's the truth of it though. Superman would win against Goku if the writer feels like letting either of them win. They could always add new game-changing powers to their heroes when needed, so the argument are moot, regardless of the "science" behind them.
@115829344612807886258 That is the truth. Another well said. But they do it fun because they want to see them go against each other. Half the time the writers don't remember their powers, such as Goku writer Akira Toyirama.
@@tarnell4003 Toriyama never once stated or implied that he doesn't remember "Goku's powers." The only time he's ever said he forgot something was when readers asked him about the fate of background characters that he wrote out of the story 10+ years prior. More specifically, his "I forgot about that" answer was in response to what happened to Lunch/Launch, the character who only ever existed to tell a joke about split personalities and women with bipolar disorder and had long since played out her joke (the last time we see her in the manga is before Goku and Chi-Chi run off to get married).
Fanboys have since taken that one response to mean that Toriyama doesn't actually know shit about his own series so they can disregard any interview answers that contradict their power scaling threads or claims in a vs topic.
When Battle of Gods was coming out and fans/interviewers were asking what the new Super Saiyan God form meant for the previous transformations (SS2 & SS3), Toriyama clarified a lot of misconceptions that the Daizenshuu guidebooks had put out there and the Power Level fanboys almost all stood in unison to proclaim that Toriyama is just too senile to remember what he actually wrote in the series. Why? Because among the things Toriyama said was that SS2 and SS3 aren't actually full on transformations but rather a separate branch of regular SS (akin to the Ascended and Ultra Saiyan forms Vegeta and Trunks used on Cell), that the power of SS1 could be increased beyond SS2 and SS3, and most importantly, that the Super Saiyan multipliers in the Daizenshuu were exaggerations that he never claimed to be true and hadn't taken into account when writing the original manga.
The problem is that uninformed fanboys seem to think that anime guidebooks are written exclusively by the original creator of the work and that everything in them is backed by the "word of god," but the reality is that these books are generally made when the publication studio that owns the manga/anime hires ghost writers to interview the creator and compile a new piece of merch that the fans won't be able to resist buying because it supposedly has all the hidden production secrets that weren't in the manga itself. The reality is that databooks are written by someone not involved in the creation of the series, only exist to sell the fans unneeded merch, and are full of hyperbole, exaggerations, and often times blatantly incorrect information.
@@Madara8989 I never said Akira Toriyama stated that. Read my comment again. I said he forgets things, just like he forgot about Launch.

Battle boarders on un-alive watch.
@@godversesans5152 Yes, powerscaling a battle basing only on feats, and statements would mean characters that display strength/hax "X" would win against a character without invulnerability to said hax or with inferior strength.
However when someone is writing a fic/novel or book, they can create feats out of nothing buffing the characters/nerfing them to the point that makes the script interesting.
All in all, Stan Lee is a right in this way of reasoning, the script is the one who decides who wins. But wrong in the particular way most nerds/powerscalers are meaning to, which is analysing feats, calculating the energy required to perform feat X.
Stan Lee is so famous that even DC writers and actors paid him tribute. He is the real superhero of all time.

Superman vs. Goku has always been really dumb to me. Like, these guys would have no reason to want to kill each other. They'd probably end up being friends.
Yep just be a writer
Goku would ask to fight him though
@@dark-gaming--8232
And yet, given how well natured Goku is despite his faults, would probably use it as a training situation rather than a deadly match. And Superman being the compassionate guy he is would agree to a sparring match. Whoever wins doesn't matter, anyone can fill the physical victory part, but at the end of the sparring Goku would feel glad to train with a potential friend and worthy opponent whereas Superman might find him odd but would accept his friendship.
Because as Elena from Street Fighter believes, fighting can often be a great way to make lasting friendships.

@@transcendentsacredcourage Which is the reason why deathmatches can get old quickly. They deprive or sour people from...you know...ACTUAL interactions. (Not gonna get into details, I admit I got that shit first hand and I might not be in a position to critizise).
Elena would be the kind of girl who would be invincible by virtue of ralying allies everywhere, Akuma, El Fuerte, Dudley, Ibuki, Makoto, Ryu, heck she could gather an army if she ever wishes (and despite being optimistic, she's not dumb, as USF4 demonstrates she knows Bison and Seth are bad news and would be a waste of time befriending them), she could kill us all....but given her personality is much more likely she'll kill us with cuteness-induced heart attacks rather than any actual fight.

Hes absolutly right & thats the beauty of comics, everyone can defeat anyone under certain circumstances, its only probability that changes. If the writers give a good reason for one character to beat another, its always cool. But what people ask themselves, is if in a fair fight 2 people fight each other in fair match up, who would win more often, & that I think is a legitimate question.

They just post dumb shit like "man he's gonna be 100ft taller and he's gonna kill that stupid money with one blast of atomic breath". Idiots. Now listen, I'm a life long Godzilla fan, but you gotta give Kong the respect he's due. No matter how quickly you think Godzilla would beat Kong, it's a big blockbuster movie! If Kong even loses at all, he's gonna put up one hell of a fight, bc that's how they'll have written it. In real life, none of this shit could happen anyways, so who cares who'd win in "real life". At this point, bc of all these ppl, I think I'd rather Kong win. After all, this is by far my favorite version of Kong, but it's definitely not my favorite Godzilla.

I love the way he put that! Now, if everybody could get in that mindset, we'd be in a happier place.
This is so accurate. It literally depends on the writers on who they want to win. But every person always say “Oh wait what about this, what about that?” My guy it always depends on the writers. Especially if characters continuously get buffed. They always make that decision and there’s no definitive answer so please stop complaining on who didn’t win. Whoever wins depends on the writer. I get it if you do those powerscaling slap fights for fun but in the end you still need a writer to do these who would win fights and they make the decisions.
Yeah, but just say that make a character to win "because I want" is just stupid. And, someone debunked this (and other guys). Yes, really.
@@andreavisco2637 I agree you should have logic behind it all but most of the time it really depends on the writer cause not everyone’s gonna be satisfied. Why else did Godzilla beat the justice league? I honestly don’t care much about this topic anymore.

He right people choose who they want to win

I still use this video in soooo many discussions about fictional characters.
May he rest in peace. ❤️
This is what I always tell people when I see them arguing in the comment section about who would win in a fight.
GUYS - it's whoever the writer wants to win. The writer tells the story he wants to tell.
For example: look at Batman VS Superman. Superman would normally easily win that fight but they wrote it in a way that has Batman coming out on top. Because of the writing!!!
That really goes into a lot of things really. Like the Kryptonite of Superman, it always depends on the writer how much takes superman to however weak he will become. It all depends on the writer's view on how it should play out.
This is why i despite the "Who would win" community like "bUt cAn hE bEat GoKu" "bAtMan wIth PRep tIme"
Harley Quinn vs superman, in a nutshell.
He makes a very valid point. Fiction goes the way the writer wants it to, not necessarily what 'should' happen.
Much like wrestling the victor is usually predetermined but it’s the writer’s job to make an outcome that leaves people with “I buy that” like you know the good guys will beat the bad guys but you gotta believe what they did to get to that outcome made sense. Even the story itself can help you understand why things went the way they did because of the idea that characters fighting are basically having a debate with their fists and who ever has the stronger argument can win. The two people fighting are clashing ideals or indeed a battle of two super strong wills. It’s all in how you sell it at the end of the day which is important, it’s how deadpool was able to convincingly killed a Marvel universe after all
Deadpool is a joke. Strong or not. Now, a character like Slade Wilson I can take seriously. He was one of the only villains to make the Titans' lives a living hell. Dude was a terrorist.
No matter who fights - Stan Lee would always be the winner.
Thanos vs. Wolverine = Winner: Stan Lee!
Daredevil vs. Magneto = Winner: Stan Lee!
J. Jonah Jameson vs. Galactus = Winner: Stan Lee!
Shadowcat vs. Venom = Winner: Okay, maybe Kitty would win that one, because... come on... she's awesome!
But Howard The Duck vs. Hulk = Stan THE MAN Lee!!!!! XD
This is what I've always thought about "Who would win" type questions.
rest in peace stan lee you were one of the best writings i have ever seen and on top of that the only one with the courage to tell people the truth to their faces
Also keep in mind that the more controversial the story, the more they can sell it. This is a business, this isn't a fan fiction site that is written for the pure fun of it with no profit in mind. Sure, these guys love it--but at the end of the day if you can kill Superman to sell a million copies of a book in which everyone knows the ending...
shortterm though. Write good story's and you get long term loyalty.
Of course, you can also have both. Superior Spider-man got readers for the controversy - but then kept them due to good writing.
***** You start out with loyal fans, then get them all hooked into the franchise with good writing. Or lots and lots of semi-naked women. Whatever. Both have the same result: More readers.
Then, you take something that is a given in the comic. Something that is ALWAYS true. 2+2=4 kind of stuff. It can be something simple like, the character never kills anyone. Then, you have them have to kill someone. Ooh! Moral conflict! Or if the character simply cannot die, you kill them off. Ooh! Pull at those heartstings! Or if the character has some sort of flaw that keeps their power in check, you remove that power in some fashion. Ooh! Character turns evil! And so on and so on... The list is almost infinite how you can twist the knife.
Then you let them hang on the hook for a while. Maybe a good while. All this time, they work in the background--free, mind you--doing your advertising. By arguing online. And in person, at the Comic Book Store. And anywhere else they can find someone else to yell at about it. XBL. Steam. WoW gen chat. Whatever.
And then you release more either based on the negative aspects, or you bring them back to what they were--or both! Just have a spinoff series. Evil in one Universe, then Good in another. And that sets up another bridging series in a couple of months time...
This stuff writes itself. Seriously. I admire Stan a whole heck of a lot , but the sad fact is that there isn't a whole lot of NEW in the industry anymore. And the trouble is... The customers like it that way. They want the same 'ol, same 'ol... day in, day out. The sales numbers do not lie... The only one to break out of this monotony is Deadpool. And I don't know how much longer even that can last. Once insanity gets accepted, is it truly insanity anymore?
***** But thats kinda the point - each time you use a controversy or "shock" plot it gets less effective. You have to save them else they will lose their power. Id argue thats happening with deadpools overuse atm.
I disagree with your last point a bit, mind. People get upset when the status quo changes..when there is real "new".....but it can also lead to a permanent increase in sales. Unexplored scenarios, genuine cliffhangers...by knowing change is possible, story's can be a bit more gripping.
Sales of Suppiour Spider-man have been 20,000 each issue higher then Amazing was for a year now. Sometimes big changes have financial rewards - comic book company's just need to be brave occasionally.
(That said, of course, the more "new" stuff exists outside of marvel/dc what Waid is doing on Thrillbent.com for example.)
i swear this man eats treasure for breakfast coz ever word that comes out his mouth is pure GOLD!!!

Death Battle fans need to hear this.
Even in his death he summarize all mindset pf Anime, LN, And Manga Author of Isekai.
Well this just makes "Death Battle" look silly if THAT'S how every fight ends XD
And edgily pointless if you think about it. Couldn't they get their matches through sparring matches rather than brutally deads? Less people would be pissed off if the defeat (at least between heroic characters) could be achieved in rather peaceful ways (well, peaceful for a fight at least). At least I think is pointlessly cruel.
Stan Lee's quote only applies to characters living in the same verse. If you pit Goku against Superman, the writers of both series would want their characters to win while Death Battle would at least make a logical conclusion as to how the other would win.
So basicly I just need the link of this video the next time a see a batman vs. superman discussion. Thx Stan!

Good point, Stan. Though if you hadn't created such wonderful, interesting, powerful, incredible and... well, MARVELous characters in the first place, nobody would be asking or even wondering who'd win at all.
My thanks for giving the all too oft overlooked writer acknowledgement. That's one more reason our of hundreds why you're so loved online and off.

I wish stan lee is still alive this day to stop these fanboys who is the strongest character
That explains all the winners in all those 'Death Battle' vids.
Actually, the "choosing who they want to win" can be interpreted differently in those videos. If they chose the characters they like more, then Goku, Batman, and Haggar would all win their fights. They choose who they think would win, which can be interpreted as want.
Except for omni man vs homelander
These questions always annoyed me as a kid. Stan Lee gave the best answer I could've heard.
Brandon Sanderson has said some interesting things about magic systems ("magic system" being a broad enough term that "super powers" falls into it.) about how you can either have magic be wonderous or it can be a satisfying way to resolve or advance story elements. It's tends to be good at one thing or the other, and the determining factor is a system with a lot of details and rules is good for the later and not for the former.
What Stan Lee is advocating here is basically writing superpowers in such a way that they serve the former purpose, but the tendency in comics is to use them extensively for the later purpose.
This generates weirdly unsatisfying events in comics.
I've been saying the same thing so glad I'm not the only one....
Oh, Stan, you've just solved all my problems! XD Thank you, now I can sleep peacefully XD

you gotta set up the right context for those kinds of wilder scenarios but you can still make it work if you put the effort
which i didn't
The thing is, fiction often is not about 'what' but 'how'.
The willing suspension of disbelief is not a set in stone thing made to get "realistic" results but to make a story compelling.
Obviously if I make for example a tale where Puppetmon beats Machinedramon by just fighting head-to-head would look too absurd, but the magic is "how", not the result. What I could do is that this specific Puppetmon instead of an attack head front would rather try to avoid attacks of Heavy artillery and then start ripping the visible wires outside of the body of Machinedramon. I'm not "power leveling" the fight, I'm creating an outcome using creativity and understanding the characters, of course it still feels odd how would you play that, but again assuming there's not merely a single Puppetmon or Machinedramon (Digimon after all is about numerous creatures and they can be used in different ways depending the show, incarnation and ruleset), I could simply make either a hacked Machinedramon somewhat weakened or a much more cunning Puppetmon, whatever works for the plot.
@@CCLOSPINAWhich Aquaman?
Thank you Stan Lee. Thank you.
I have a bad news
It makes so much sense now...
Ah, so thats why people are still debating who would win in a fight between Goku and Superman. If a DC fan is making the fight, Superman wins. If a weeaboo is making the fight, Goku wins.
fanboy*
+PokeDude011 whats a weeaboo?
BoWtr1216
Thanks. learn new words everyday
+BoWtr1216 True, but yet not so true...
+Dbz Fan123 depends on the weeb
I've never seen this until now, but this is the answer I've been giving for years.
Ironically I don’t mind power scaling characters feats in actions, attributes so I just usually use that judge a character in match up
I couldn't have said it any better myself.
this video in three words, "Stan ALWAYS wins."
I always come back to this video whenever there's someone argue about some argument who would win vs who.
you hear that POWERSCALERS?
you fucking hear that!?!?
Yes they are a fodder who powers depends on the plot
Yes, and still people doing it. And you know why? They just don't give a fuck over this overused and outdated statement, simple. It's not even based on other media/verde by the way, because not every writer around the world thinks like Stan..
@@andreavisco2637 not really people can have opinion on who wins
So there no true winner or true loser
Between fiction characters
Yup. Who would win? is as bonehead a question as is How does Superman fly? He flies because the writer wants him to fly.
'Nuff said. ;-)
creator care only represent character and storyline not vs battle that the point
Listen to this goat
Rip Stan Lee 😔❤️
I wish a lot of people can learn from this
Stan Lee really was a man ahead of his time...
Oh that is so true... laugh out loud.
I physically cringe whenever i see people arguing which fictional characters from different books will win in a non canonical fight. Those characters aren't real and will not decide by themselves.
yeah, it's a pointless debate, the writers can just make them as strong as they want to
I destroy them with my drawings
@@N_Tertainment7it can be funny people would debate characters who are friends that would never fight
@@godversesans5152Yeah, because we've never seen Batman fight against Superman and we'll never see something similar again 🤣
Remember kids: Superman can move faster than light and hear stuff happening at the other side of the galaxy, but Lois always ends up getting kidnapped. Why? Because the script says so!
And in the most recent video game, Harley Quinn managed to kill him.
