CLASSIC cars have been reenvisioned as miniature versions and collected in a ‘dwarf car’ museum. Ernie Adams, of Maricopa, Arizona, has been creating his incredible scaled-down replicas of full-size cars since 1965, starting with his version of a 1928 Chevy two-door sedan. The original car, known as ‘Grandpa Dwarf’, was made out of nine old refrigerators and is still running today. Since then, Ernie, now in his late-70s, has made hundreds of 11/16th scale dwarf cars, from racers to cruisers - all fully drivable and road-legal. One of the gems of his collection is his take on the 1949 Mercury two-door coupe, which he built entirely from scratch using flat sheet metal.

We need an hour long documentary to showcase this mans handskills and engineering prowess as he constructs his last ride.
Discovery should do a series on his build-- I think it would be interesting, seeing his creative process!
I don't think 1 hour would even scratch the surface?! But I totally agree and I'm mad jealous of his skills!!
I think it's this old car. But he has been on several TV shows and UA-cam channels. This was nicely done but it did not go in nearest deep as many of them dead. The Ottawa Kansas sticker on that Mercury replica has an interesting story.

There's a ton of videos on UA-cam about how the factories themselves mass produced cars back then as well as various hand hammering techniques.
This man is an artist, an engineer and an all-around genius.
These cars are cooler than a refrigerator.
(😞, couldn't help myself.)
😊
That was a good one
I want one of those cars but I want the fridge qualities too. Like if I get thirsty on the way home I could just say "Go..go..gaget Mountain Dew" and it rolls out of the glove compartment!
Thumbs down for the joke
i agree, so cool just like a refrigerator.................... unbelievable
100 miles per hour in the Rebel Rowser would be absolutely terrifying. I love it!
This guy is an artist, engineer, mechanic & model maker all rolled into one! What incredible builds. It’s such a shame he won’t part with any or do any custom builds. I suspect there are some shorter people who would feel right at home in those.
That man is a genius with his hands! .
The most amazing thing about this man is that he doesn't seem to even realize how amazing he is.
Best part of him
I like that one or two of those ice job
Perhaps the hallmark of ones who really are something

I have met him in person and he is a very cool guy. He brings is baby blue mini bel air to our big car show in Kansas every year
True craftsmanship. How cool would it be to have him for a mentor and learn from.
Yes, he will be a good teacher, and really you dont need college to be a star
@@carlosbutler7811 the Thumb downs are from douche bags , He has Major SKILLS.
Awesome vehicles.
To bad they don't come to the Main public for a reasonable price.
It would be great to be his son or grandson as well.
He really needs to license kits and give lessons to pass this on...
I’d love to have him as a neighbor!
I live in Maricopa I have seen these cars in person, they are incredible even more so when you realize how they're made and just all of the work that goes into them. Ernie is a great guy, fun and informative to talk to.
That is a true wizard. Maximizing his resourcefulness in upcycling refrigerators and whatever else fits into driveable works of art.
That man has some serious skills in many trades. The metal work, the mechanical engineering, the upholstery. Not to mention all of the maths involved in scaling things down.
Another commenter posted this link in a reply to someone else, to a video where he talks a little with some photos of the build of the Mercury. ua-cam.com/video/ww6rDfGeJZI/v-deo.html
Photos shown at around 2:55 of this video. He seems to build the bodywork shapes out of wire first then forms sheet metal around it. I think he might have built it all going by eye, an insane skill.
@@markwright3161 It is probably a combination of skills, the maths to scale things down and the blending by eye to smooth out the lines of the panels.
100% respect
In short an Einstein who is not interested in building and atomic bomb
Used to work area 51 what I think
The sound of that door closing on the Mercury shows how great of a craftsman he is.
How nice it closed with the perfect solid sounding close 👍
YYYYYYYYes, the door! Astonishing.... .by the way, your chosen line of work is kinda sorta impressive too ;)
Better then a new Chevrolet .
It’s nearly impossible to get that crisp pop when replacing a door. I can’t believe this guy built these cars out of refrigerators and measured so precise that he got the pop. I’m jealous. What a freaking stud.
That was an oddly satisfying door closing noise
Dumbfounded..that skill this guy has is actually unbelievable, I've seen good fabricators bit my God this guy is on another level...I don't think he even knows how insanely talented he is....absolutely astonishing
Everything is homemade from scratch…..just mind blowing!😮
Why am I getting garbage in my recommendations when there are absolutely amazing things like this man and his handcrafted cars that come to me 4 months later? This man is awesome and I sure hope he has taught Someone his knowledge…! This is pure art. Thank you for existing Mr Ernie.
Because UA-cam is going to the pack like everything else.
Because your recommendations aren't based on your interests- they're based on corporate interests

So how then did you end up here...?
A person with this level of skill rests easy in knowing that he can fix or build most anything.
You've heard that song ice ice baby. His song is icebox baby 🤣
Unless it has a computer in it.
Please protect this man I hope he'll record the whole building process for family so they could continue he's legacy 🙏🏻 I literally want one of these cars!
Those cars he made are absolutely incredible. I can’t believe how good he did
He doesn't even go on strike either
This is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. To fabricate everything and keep the scale perfect seems almost unbelievable... what insane craftsmanship.
Too bad he didn't film the secrets he has stored through the years. I'm 74 and I could still learn from a person like that. Absolutely amazing.

He needs to build a chevy bel air! Masterpiece.
It's not true. I was there three weeks ago and he's got a Chevy he is finishing that is his "last car"
Seems he is always making his last car.
This old man has hand skills that simply won't exist in another 10-15 years when he and his generation are all gone to time. Telling some rich guy "No" no matter what price he offers you has to be the best feeling on planet earth.
Great job Ernie. Don't sell what makes you happy. Fantastic art, fabrication and mechanical skills on display. You are an inspiration.
I'm truly amazed at that man's skills! Those vehicles are amazing.
Interesting is that you recycle Japanese cars into these The American clones. What usually happens.
One of the most amazing things I've ever seen in my life. This old guy is legend.
I am also a David Z 😂
@ComeonMan!!! oh so you've built a running mini classic out of junk? You're on UA-cam putting people down, so I'm going to say your life is probably a lot more boring than mine. I've rebuilt engines and restored classic cars but never something like this.

One of a kind gentleman. Heart is pure. Money doesn't tempt him when it comes to something of sentimental value.
I love that Ernie is a man who's not tempted by money! Tells me he's got morals & ethics!! Good man!!
It’s really something that he won’t sell them, but it may not be about him being pure as much as it is that he’s probably already made more than twice the amount of that offer off of the museum ;)
