  • Rendering bear fat into Lard for long term canning is a simple task if done correctly, this video goes over step by step including where to remove the best fat off a bear.
Low and slow is the key, to high of a heat it will burn the lard making it stink fowl. I also cover proper filtration processes which makes is clear for cooking, leather treatment, waterproofing and much more.

@@paparomesoutdoors711 no videos. brine them over night then let them air dry for a couple hours then smoke with apple wood on medium heat for 6 or 8 hours.

Man I’m looking forward to seeing how you use this, I’ve never seen it done before. So do you use it the same way you use bacon fat? My dad was a huge bear hunter when he was alive so I really like to eat it but never tried this before. I’m definitely going to keep this in mind if I ever get to go to my bear camp lol.. it’s been crazy busy so it’s been a while😂 thanks for sharing brother!

How long for it to solidify? I poured it in quart jars and it’s seems to be taking forever. Should I put it in the fridge?

    • @paparomesoutdoors711

My bear fat did not solidify, my pork lard does but I just keep mine as oil and use it that way

Do you recommend canning the fat?
Most fats seem pretty shelf stable for a quite a bit, obviously not forever
