    Thanks, Jake.
    It seems strange to say but I never had the desire to search the difference between the two effects, keeping using one instead of the other.
    You, doing this type of tutorial are helping every one of us "lazy motioners".
    This series is pure gold, thank you!
    Quick question about CC Bend it: I saw some people writing the expression "toComp(value)" in the start and end property. Why is that? Is it a substitution of the expressions that you used?

    • @JakeInMotion
      @JakeInMotion  3 роки тому +3

      Thank you! Yeah that expression is actually safer because it measures the distance from the top left corner of the comp to the point control instead of just basing it on the position property. The problem with using just the position property is that it's relative to the layer it's parented to. So if I were to have parented my logo to something else, my expression wouldn't work anymore.

    • @StoutPika

      And using toComp(Value) will actually make Bend it effect be affected by rotation and scale too, while parenting it to the position will only affect the position of the effect

    Thanks Jake, this vid will save me loads of time, I’m a big fan of BendIt and Slant and all of your vids.
    Came upon a problem today with WaveWarp.
    Animating it’s phase of 0-360 degrees does not add up to a clean loop.
    Can you break this down as to why it is
    not?

    I parented a layer with CC Bend It to a Null and changed the position to the Null.
    Now the CC Bend It effect makes big troubles... also the expression you provided won't help here.
    Ok, of course it works. It just needs an adjustment.
    Correct expression: value+thisComp.layer("[Name of the Null Layer]").transform.position

    is there anyway to get the cc bender distort to follow a layer? I have a squeegee being pulled across the screen and want the rubber to flex a little as it travels but I cant seem to get the distort to move with the squeegee

    Dude, SUPER hoping you see this because i cant find an answer anywhere. If i want to bend a line, a single line, with both ends staying (relatively) static and in same place while the MIDDLE part of the line is the one doing the bending, how would i do that? I only know how to make either end bend, or both ends bend while middle stays static...

    • @GreatJobTy
      @GreatJobTy 2 роки тому

      follow up, it looks like if i apply marilyn cc bender to the line and adjust start and end points that gives me close to what i want.. but like, is that the only way?? is that most efficient

    • @JakeInMotion
      @JakeInMotion  2 роки тому +1

      If it's a shape layer you could add a point on the path in the middle of the two ends and use the "Create Nulls from Paths" script that comes with AE. That will allow you to control individual path points with null objects. So before running the script, and that center point and add bezier handles to it so that the line curves smoothly when you adjust that point's position. Then run the script and those bezier handles will remain. Hopefully that helps!

    Thanks for this amazing tutorial Jake. I wanted to ask, I have a layer having CC Bend it applied to it and is precomped. I have to turn on collapse transformation for the precomp but everytime I do, the layer disappears. If I turn off the CC Bend it effect, it comes back. What can I do to fix it. Please help me out here. Thanks in advance

    Hi Jake thanks for the fantastic video. I tried the "CC Bend it" effect + "grow bounds" on a pixel based layer and it worked great. However when I use "CC Bend it" and "Grow Bounds" on another layer Bend it crops the layer and Grow Bounds has zero effect on it. I'm a bit stuck trying to figure why it works on one layer and not another? Any insights or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    • @JakeInMotion
      @JakeInMotion  2 роки тому

      Hey Kieran, you have every right to be confused. The problem is the way AE looks at vector layers (shape, text and continuously rasterized layers). To AE, those layers are all the size of the comp; even though you can see the bounding box isn't. Because of this, many effects that are based on the bounding box misbehave, and grow bounds does nothing since it's expanding outside of the comps viewable area. The fix is to precompose the layer and crop the comp to the size of the artwork. Not a fun solution, but it works every time.
