I remember one complete disaster turned ot to be my favorite carving knife in the end (just as You all know it was all 100% intentionaly if somene ask, not because i made any misstakes...).
both looks awesome, don't sweat about it breaking as a philosophy saying goes : A Foolish man complains about the hole in his pocket. A Wise man uses it to scratch his balls. lol
Man you've stepped things up since I last watched your videos. Before You were in your garage with just a anvil, a hammer and a forge. Now you have a press and mill. bravo!
Man, my heart broke when you showed that kitchen knife without the handle. Although, the pattern is really wild and you can see the depth in the Damascus. Again, I'm impressed not only with your work product, but also your willingness to keep pushing your abilities to learn new methods. Master Smith William F. Moran would be proud.
The tang! :( More heartbreaking than a Forged In Fire strength test. The resulting pattern was gorgeous though. Looks a lot like Moire (a satin fabric that has a wood grain look to it).
I did a similar pattern. I kept it on one side of the billet then folded it again! I forged in the bevels and it made a really cool kaleidoscope pattern!
Nice save Green!! The chartuserry (or something) damn near blinds. The itty bitty knife is really nice. There is no such thing as failure. You merely changed your mind.
That break was totally heartbreaking. I thought I would have preferred your folder idea, until I saw what you ended up doing with it. If I ever win the lottery, I'll be commissioning a bunch of stuff from you.
Talk about chatoyance! Good grief Charlie Brown, you were a little rough on yourself. What you ended up with was nothing short of museum quality art. We all get a little hard on ourselves, but throw it out because you completed two beautiful blades that should be behind glass and hanging on a wall. Love your attitude to not only try something new, but persevere to the very end. Congratulations on your success. Thanks for sharing and truly enjoyed watching this video 3 times before throwing in my 2 cents worth. 👍👍👍
Oh wow I love that pattern it has!!!! You should have wielded a tang on it and finish making the knife. I love the pattern and know you was still able to make one out if it But I don't care for the style myself But love the smaller one though Enjoyed your video so gave it a Thumbs Up
dude... I have no idea why you put yourself down so much.. the things you make are awesome. This pattern reminds me of 3d holograms you see on older bank cards. I have a 3d security hologram on a work ID card, that catches the light in just the same way.
Nice build. Bummer about the chef knife but you salvaged it anyway. I think you need the high layer count for good chatoyance. I did a random pattern 750 layer chef and the chatoyance was really good. PS - I’m gonna steal that basket weave idea! 😜
Hey bud ! public comment: “Those came out EXACTLY as I planned” Privately: Whew saved my ass on this one being creative and highly skilled”. Great job and beautiful finished work. Thanks for posting, keeping it real.
My earnest hope is that I recover from setbacks like you experienced with some modest success, unlike your triumphs. Both look awesome, and the big one is just too handsome for words.
I had to wear a bandaid around time of beauty shots it just didn’t make it in. Cut finger w razor I used to scrape ca glue off brass. One always has a bandaid on. It is the way.
Really sorry, Steve. That tang breaking broke my heart as well, and Im just watching! You taught me something today, I had never heard of chatoyance in regards to damascus before. I think a lower layer count would be ideal for the double ladder idea. I hope you revisit this project.
Wish i didnt miss the premiere... It looks amazing, i love the idea and i love how you managed to overcome the chalenge with the broken peace and all. It looks sooper gangsta! Wery educational, nicely done, the handles on both knives are preety, satisfying to watch, a tone of stuff to learn, nicely explained, overall a good job considering the chalenges you had with your setup. Good work GB keep em coming, im always happy when i see a new upload.
I loved that idea and I thought it was actually wicked cool ! Dude id love to see this revisited asap! Maybe contact a local machinist with maybe a mill capable of doing what you wanted...that basket weave idea! I think it would truly give that chatyouceancance thing a real pop/3d effect!
Great job as usual you should try the basket weave thing you were talking about you definitely have the skill! I would have never even thought up the process you mentioned to do it it sounds brilliant and plausible
For anyone who wants too know, chatoyancy in wood is formed under massive bows pressing down on the wood of the trunk directly under the bow. It compresses the wood grain giving that wonderful ripple effect.
Considering it was an experiment they totally rock (I always consider experimental anything to be dead before I start) I wish I could have seen what these two looked like in person cause wow, yes it sucked to lose that section but the resultant herb knife was gorgeous.
Another option for the future.... Nip the tip, and graft a handle directly on the spine. Useful for some of the more esoteric kitchen options. If you also drop the edge, it's then a spatula instead.
Thank you for showing that, mistakes are made in the making of a knife, i use to watch videos and think wow it's simple and easy, and.....no...haha, not always anyway, but also thank you for showing that with good thinking the work can be saved, anyway Un saludo desde Argentina!
Isn’t it said that “knife makers don’t make mistakes, they just make smaller knives?” LoL Beautiful work.
A Wise man uses it to scratch his balls. lol
wish i could thumbs up more than once here
Profound....
D. Mat.Zero6 , Comment so true! If it isn’t despair it’s Husslin pocket pool.
It is refreshing that you show your whole process, warts and all. It is so approachable and fun to watch.
thank you
damn, that tang napping hurt my soul :( the pattern on the blade is one of the most beautiful i have ever seen
I love watching the flux get pulled into the hot steel. It’s oddly satisfying.
Your milling experience cracked me up! I'm learning hard on that front too.... At 9:48 i literately gasped... Pattern came out great man!
Beautiful work! Love the chatoyancy!
Man you've stepped things up since I last watched your videos. Before You were in your garage with just a anvil, a hammer and a forge. Now you have a press and mill. bravo!

I'm glad you were able to save the blade and make something out of it. Turned out beautifully
As a knifemaker myself, I find your videos to be extremely helpful. You have saved me so much time and effort. Thank you so much!
🙏
I love the calm manner with which you narrate your videos. Long time fan. Thank you.
I'm glad you salvaged the big blade
Some of the prettiest knives I've ever seen you make and actually it's probably the prettiest I've ever seen anyone make. Keep up the great work
My heart sinks when the tang snapped of the main blade, but the final work on the damascus on both pieces of blades are just blew my mind away. 👍✨
This knife's EBAY 100% TO CHARITY AUCTION www.ebay.com/itm/303649028313
Love your comments during the work. Honest and self-ironic. Good work bro!!!!
Handle added by a spine sounds awesome.
Very nice recovery on the larger blade and an excellent attitude to match the final product.
I think the "broken" knife was always destined to be a chopper. You really killed the finish on both pieces. 👏👏👏
That chatoyance is great! Certified gemologist approved!
That is amazing work!!!!!! Sometimes failures turn into unexpected surprises!! Both knives look outstanding!!!!
So sick. Youre crazy talented dude. I dont think I've seen a piece yet that hasn't left me damn near speechless.
The tang! :( More heartbreaking than a Forged In Fire strength test. The resulting pattern was gorgeous though. Looks a lot like Moire (a satin fabric that has a wood grain look to it).
Way to salvage a disaster! Absolutely beautiful
I did a similar pattern. I kept it on one side of the billet then folded it again! I forged in the bevels and it made a really cool kaleidoscope pattern!
ALWAYS glad I watch your videos. Educational, entertaining, high quality!
Your humor and wit make these bro!
GREAT WORK 👍 as usual
Your personality is coming through so well in your videos nowadays. I'm so proud of you for this channel :)
Awww man talk about a gut punch! Glad you were able to finish it they look stunning!
That smaller knife is AWESOME. I’d buy that for sure.
Well done sir!
:)
Way to come through a tough spot man! I love that you were able to salvage it! The pattern was brilliant and eye catching! Great work
What a save! That pattern is off the hook!
When that tang snapped, it broke my heart.
Beautiful recovery from disaster
Nice save Green!! The chartuserry (or something) damn near blinds. The itty bitty knife is really nice. There is no such thing as failure. You merely changed your mind.
That break was totally heartbreaking. I thought I would have preferred your folder idea, until I saw what you ended up doing with it. If I ever win the lottery, I'll be commissioning a bunch of stuff from you.
The Kyle Royer/Liam Hoffman coffee etching trick brings out the contrasts and in turn the chatoyance even more.
Been watching you since you started with your youtube channel. You have came a LONG way, my friend. Awesome!
I love the bigger of the two pieces but I have to say that both of them are absolutely beautiful
That blade looks incredible.
Nice Save! Gorgeous work on both knives.
I love how the herb chopper came out!
Awesome! Looking forward to more like this. The pattern effect is stunning.
I about cried when the Tang snapped
That pattern is awesome... I like that more than a lot of the fancy mosaic patterns that seem to be the rage.

Sweet knives. Love the adapt and overcome on this one. Well done Steve!!
Oh wow I love that pattern it has!!!! You should have wielded a tang on it and finish making the knife. I love the pattern and know you was still able to make one out if it But I don't care for the style myself But love the smaller one though
Enjoyed your video so gave it a Thumbs Up
This is one of my favorite of your videos. I have watched it several times over the last few months. Would love to see you revisit this!
dude... I have no idea why you put yourself down so much.. the things you make are awesome.
This pattern reminds me of 3d holograms you see on older bank cards.
I have a 3d security hologram on a work ID card, that catches the light in just the same way.
Well, the end result turned out even better than your initial planned knife!
My "chat" and I enjoyed watching your video.
This is my favorite Damascus video

What a save. A couple of real beauties. Wish I was in the financial ballpark for that puukko.👍
Hey mate, minus the set back it all came out looking amazing. Great work.
Pattern looks great
Great work! I love watching your videos they're always informative and precise. Thank you .
My earnest hope is that I recover from setbacks like you experienced with some modest success, unlike your triumphs. Both look awesome, and the big one is just too handsome for words.
Man what a beautiful pattern! You have some real talent brother! Can't wait to see the next video when you try round 2!!!
On the plus side, the pattern came out great!
I love the pattern and style of the blade 😍
That came out beautifully! You can't buy that kinda workmanship in the store!
I love the more frequent up louds and I will send you some pictures of my knife when I'm done😊
Mr Beetle - nice job - very entertaining and informative. Sorry to see the big knife break.
I guess i need to steal that pattern. Nice job! Will try to use my shaper for the groves, that could work like a charm.
Really great work 👍
Much appreciated friend
Beautiful work, dude! It turned out fantastic! 😮
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

That came out utterly badass. Shame about that tang, but you recovered with class. Love it! I love this kind of experimentation.
Considering it was an experiment they totally rock (I always consider experimental anything to be dead before I start)
I wish I could have seen what these two looked like in person cause wow, yes it sucked to lose that section but the resultant herb knife was gorgeous.
I like the shimmer on the final blades
ty sir
That looks awesome! I am not a fan of high layer Damascus, but this one looks really sick!! Great work mate!
Another option for the future.... Nip the tip, and graft a handle directly on the spine. Useful for some of the more esoteric kitchen options. If you also drop the edge, it's then a spatula instead.
Dang!! : ( missed the stream great blade work, love the chambounce i mean catshine! 😸
