Two knives are forged from nickel plated needles that were welded up into a canister! The handle material is bocote I stabilized with cactus juice. Don't worry, I'm doing a full handle video soon.

Yup. Folks, it’s rare to see a blade smith share the learning process so honestly. Thanks beetle. Good to see a post from your channel sir.
Thanks 👍
@Prince Hector wha do I search
@Prince Hector hope u didn’t read her messages and find out she was shagging about behind yr back 😂😂
Then you havent looked far...
He is indeed honest, but there's plenty of people sharing their process online. Not like it's a guarded secret anymore. Nowadays, the specifics of the shop are the far greater and more important thing.
Damn they got you. Raid shadow legends is everywhere lol.
They literally spam you promotions and sponsors,so you must take the thing if you want them to let you live without like a thousand notifications
@@mesinovict6316 Man gotta get paid somehow. I dont mind watching them.
How much do u get of a sponsor? Because he couldn’t afford the needles that he likes, well not afford coz I don’t know how much dough he has
They gave the video raids
It’s pretty cool seeing how much your shop has grown over the years
Almost spit my coffee out laughing at "If you're new to the channel you're probably wondering what happened. If you've been following for a while you're probably thinking "Surprised he got that far"
Your bladesmithing is every bit as creatively experimental as your spelling.
Grammar police officer watch out!! Lol 😂
Not everybody is brought up with a good education u don’t know what was going on in they lives when they where kids learning might of been the last thing on they minds especially the ones like myself who have dyslexia, calling someone out for their spelling is like being racist or homophobic
I was just looking for something new to watch and BAM...Green Beetle comes through. Thank you.
You're welcome on my channel, if you want!
I like how beetle drops that beautiful dad joke and then there's no mention of it ever again 😂
This is the way
I caught that also. Good one Steve, thanks for representing.😉
Showing, owning, and adapting to your mistakes is cool.
Love it. Only feedback is if you went with a green handle you could have have a Green Needle knife made by Green Beetle. Alliteration be damned!
so good
Dude! That was awesome. It was extremely entertaining, but not in the comedic way you seem to fear. I truly appreciate and admire your skills, intelligence, sense of humour and courage. It takes real high-carbon steel balls to put your blunders on full display and take credit for them. The world needs more people like you. You don't give yourself enough credit.
Well said and what a nice compliment to say u sir also deserve some nice kindness in your life for your nice words.
8:27 I’ve never heard a more genuine, “I feel good” after a screw up lmaoooo.
He’s baaaaaack!!
Boom
Loved the pattern! Knife makers don’t make mistakes, just smaller blades.
Love how it kinda matches wood grain! Failure is part of the journey to mastery.
0:0:44 the sound I've been making all of 2020.
This is a good example of why I love your channel. You show the set backs as well as the successes. I learn more from your channel than from ten other channels.
Btw the pattern turned out awesome. 👍
I like the mystery science theater esq v.o.
Amazing video and the comedy is always golden!! I also love the ingenuity you have by using a tape measure to tamp down the needles and stuff in the can!!!
Personally love the blade, really looks like turbulence of an airflow, amazing!
Always so good to see a new Green Beetle video come up. Thanks for what you do, man.
Really great to see a video from you again, Steve! You've been missed!
you should make a canister Damascus in which you incorporate a "thing" from every Damascus you ever made on youtube. (i think its called dinosaur Damascus)
This is a nice idea but shouldn't it be called "Frankenstein" Damascus then?
@@Rsama60 I do think that would be better but I think the actual term is dinosaur Damascus
Jersey turnpike damascus
It's called fossil Damascus, I have made a few blades from failed Damascus projects
@@rektturtle747 thx for letting me know
Fellow Okie, and professional tattoo artist. Those do indeed look like the #12 needles we use (though those look longer and it’s fairly rare to make the needle bars ourselves anymore, and most of us have gone to cartridges. Really cool to see you doing this one man, hope that forge is keeping you warm lol
Definitely sewing needles. You can see the thread eyes in them.
@@thomasarussellsr The boxes and diameter are VERY similar to tattoo needles, but the length is long, so you're right, they are probably for something like that.
Kudos on your persistence and ever-increasing skill! Don’t let the setbacks slow you down.
I've been watching your content for years. I remember your first videos and I can see how far your set up has come. Keep up the grind and great video! Thanks for the content. :)
Ty
First time first video watcher. Thx for sharing even your "not exactly as you wanted" efforts!
Very nice! The bocote handle looks wonderful, I always love seeing those hard-contrasting black/white woods.
my favorite knife making channel never disappoints!
Wouldn't be a Green Beetle video without a last minute fuck up.
That music and the final reveal really hit the spot. fucc yeah bud!
Can't call it it a major success, but as an experiment, it's a winner.
You can’t win em all, Beetle. The first knife turned out really well at least. Great video! These are great because of your personality.. oh and you do cool stuff too. 👍
I get strong "This old Tony" vibes from this (Or vise versa) and I appreciate it completely. So glad UA-cam recommended your vids in my feed. This should go without say, but keep up the great content.
Very cool. Thank you. The struggle makes it way cooler.
My favorite knife making channel.
ty
Youve gotten really good with your press, Steve.
You are so intertaining and fun. I love all your small gimmicks and gestures. And that small knife got beautiful
"nickel coated needles" is a pretty cool band name
So happy to see a new Green Beetle video.
A pleasure to watch, as always. Thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed watching. Thanks for making this video.
Entertaining? Yes! Interesting? Yes! Looking forward to your next out of the box thinking video..
YES! its another canister mix up mash up!
Yes, love the experiment!
Way to stick with it! Just keep having fun that is what counts. Thanks for your hard work.
Awesome stuff. Thanks buddy. Your awesome. Mistakes and all. Thank you!!!!
Love your videos! Thanks for sharing 👍😊
The pattern looked cool loved the contrast between the itty bitty pieces and the large swaths of different materials.
Man, that Damascus and wood went so well together, looked like the blade was a grey extension of the handle!
My thought exactly
You should put the cannister inside the basin of an ultrasonic cleaner as you fill it with powder. It will vibrate all the powder down fast and catch any overspill.
That is a great idea. Genius is not just new technology; but applying existing tech to new purpose.
@@christopherneelyakagoattmo6078 two things I learned as a combat engineer in the US army. 1) Work smarter not harder. 2) Sometimes you just got to improvise and make do with what you got. I used to say that Combat Engineers Improvise, adapt, overcome and disinfect and deodorize with a fresh, clean scent.
6:56 is why I like this channel so much.
Thats ALOT of needles😂😂😂 nonetheless I love these obscure knife making videos, I have no clue if you've tried to do it, but have eyou tried to use paper clips to make a knife? If not I think it'd make an interesting blade
Couldn’t find any that weren’t zinc coated.
@@GreenBeetle NOOOO, that really sucks, theyres always next time
@@GreenBeetle soak in vinager, then electro coat in nickel? Yea it’s silly but....
@@GreenBeetle you can remove the zinc by soaking them in a dilute solution of potassium hydroxide (i.e. lye). Just leave them overnight (or if its cold, a few days until you don't see the coating anymore).
@Aiden Tyrrell he could probably use a knife steel insert like some of his other builds.
Man, I'm glad you're still at it. As frustrating as fighting one of these PermaWarp (tm) stubborn bastards is, that pattern was cool as hell. Thanks for taking the time to try shit like this. We'd never see it otherwise
Awesome craftsmanship!!! Love that knife!
I love the play-by-play! I don’t know anything about knife making. Awesome video, thanks!
There is nothing like knowing you've got a new video coming up. I absolutely loved both blades. Still can't believe how expensive those needles were. Thank you for an excellent video.
Aint gonna lie.. the fart noise got me 😆
Beautiful patterns, great work , awesome entertainment!
I'm so glad you posted this video, I needed a helpful distraction today so thank you for providing that.
Love the end!!! All of us mortals are grateful that you leave the mistakes in.
Love the commentary, and congrats on getting a sponsor. Great video thanks!
Always enjoy your videos, Steve!
Damn, that looks a whole lot like wrought iron grain patterns. Amazing work!
Man I really enjoy your content, the fact that you show the bad with the good is a big part of it. Charles Ingalls is the man.
Hey Steve, glad to see you back doing your "professional you-tuby thing." It's always a good day when you drop a new video. I was worried that 2020 may have gotten you.
Great pattern and nice match with the handle material, they really complimented each other.
Thanks for keeping it real my friend, we enjoy...I mean feel your pain.😉 Got bless
Looks amazing !
Very cool work!
Thank you for sharing this
I tend to get warps like that on my thin chef knives (2mm tapering down to zero) and have found that clamping them in a fixture that bends the blade slightly opposed the the warp while tempering get them out nicely. I do one temper without the fixture then do the second with it so the knife isn't brittle going into the fixture
I've got a bar with a rod welded crossways in the middle I use for that purpose. I tried torching this one then tempering while clamped and it only got worse for some reason . I think the solid stripes of 1095 running lengthwise didn't get along with the the rest of the billet. Lots of tension. I could flip bent portion of the edge back in forth so it would "pop" out one side and stay then I'd pop it out the other direction.
That's called a shimed temper I believe
@@GreenBeetle there is always that blade that won't let up lol. My latest one took 5 attempts to straighten, came out of the quench with a massive s warp from the handle to the tip. Some just fight the whole way
So cool Steve! Always inspiring and entertaining to watch your videos! Thanks man! A+
Ty good to hear from you 🙏
1095, 1084, 15N20 & nickel coated needles? VERY cool!
Amazing, thank you for greet video!! Love you from Cambodia
Looks pretty awesome
That is one delicious knife!
Great outburst at the end by the way!
This is a really nice knife. I love your creativity.
Thanks for the laughs, cool pattern 👍
One word. Badass.
Awesome knives!!
I commend you, sir, for several things. First, for spending that much money on needles when you had no way of knowing how they'd work. Second, for showing us your roadblocks. Third, for your amazing restraint with language! I'd have been Freddy Uncle Charlie Katie all over the shop for hours!
Dude I absolutely love your content! Your humor is great bud :-)
I appreciate that! You're the man, my friend.
Damm so cool..love the way you made em .good job
That's an AWESOME looking pattern. All the thin lines remind me of deeply etched wrought iron. Great work!
Awesome blade pattern !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That came out amazing Mate!
Look at this way...there are more lessons to be learned in failure than in success. 😉
Here's looking forward to version 2... 🤞😊
Nice work Steve, good on you for sticking with it despite all the setbacks!
I wish it were shtick but it's all I got. Heheheh. I'll figure this out eventually. That's a great Bowie build on your IG.
@@GreenBeetle haha it's an admirable pursuit! Cheers!
The nice thing about making a knife is you can still use it afterwards regardless of a mistake on stacking during forging.
I like it. Interesting pattern.
Nicely done sir - its refreshing to see the fails in the pocess too. Its onvious you like what you do and its nice to watch you do it ^^
Awesome editing!
Little house on the prairie therapy is real.
look cool. thanks
The king is back!
Good work !
Your videos are very entertaining. All ways good to see a new one!
Sweet looks awesome
I enjoyed watching that! Ya done good.
Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls God Bless Ya 🙏
Badass blade.
Love the "Bacon" knife and the giant straight razor. Beautiful knives, green dude.
