That was my favorite pattern so far. Also, as a side note, I appreciate your commentary on how you take us through your process. I don’t want perfection- I want to see the mistakes and fails. Bravo old chap
Here we go! A solid square of 1084 and low layer damascus is twisted and manipulated for a unique pattern. Do things go wrong? Why, yes. Does persistence pay off? Stay to the very, very end to see the delamination ground out yay!
When the forge weld starts to delaminates. I use an air hose. Turn the pressure really low and it pushes the flux deep into the cracks get a good weld.
One thing I like about your feeds is that you’re brutally honest about the mishaps. You really do keep it clean and never make excuses. That’s honest work.
Great video! About doing twist damascus: back in the day I watched a video of Jason Knight doing twist and he had one piece of advice that I've found invaluable, and that's to forge stock round before twisting. It saves having to deal with almost all of the shuts and lost material from the square edges. Again, love the channel and keep up the great work!
I really enjoy your videos. The reason why you're not afraid to show your mistakes. I'm building my forge and I have not done anything yet. I can't wait to get to work.
I really appreciate showing the flaws and failures on camera. And I always love seeing you go way outside of your comfort zone to make weird cool shit. Thanks
I actually really like that coarse low layer pattern. Its really unique. Im starting to feel like high layer Damascus patterns just start to all look the same after a while. Anyways sorry about that delam.. thats a bummer. You'll get it next time.
While I like watching your videos to learn new techniques, I also have found that I greatly enjoy your antics in the shop. Keep up the work. We amateurs appreciate it.
I didn't realize how delicate and complex this form of knife making is, if been watching this guy "shurap" make blades and it looked fairly straight forward to me. No wonder dumascus blades are so expensive. : )
Next video: * starts cleaning the anvil with his hand after every couple of strikes * a tea pot makes an appearance BTW I liked the result! You have a great talent for this. Learn from the best, what else.
Let's hope not, because then he will make the same profile knife endlessly. I think Schrap does great Damascus variations, but I'd sure like him to mix it up a bit.
Sorry for the late reply, just got up for work. I just wanted to say that the knife looks amazing and that I love your videos! One of the few smithing channels where I genuinely look forward to uploads 💯
I commend you for your efforts and being willing to share your experiment with us. I will have to go back and watch this a few times; I got lost in some of the flips and stacks!
I always enjoy your videos. Wish you’d make more. I personally have been in a knife making slump. Is that even a word (slump) 😂 IDK. The hot weather is just not such an enjoyable time to be in my suffocating shop. I look forward to cooler weather and more Green vids. Thanks ✌️
@@endopainss7946 these comments make my day. forging has meant a lot to me, made me grow as a person and allowed me to connect with many good people so i'm very happy to see others pursuing it. Be well, be safe and send me some pics of what you make.
I have been wanting to see this style of Damascus for a while. Would also like to see a really twist Damascus that is squared and then untwisted. maybe grind valleys and do a ladder?
I love the pattern and very dark etch. Worth an extra 8 hours, $20 of propane, metaphorical kicks in the wrinkle beans, existential crisis yelling, and delamination? Maybe it was a pain in the ass for you, but it was sure interesting to watch. I like that you show the stuff that doesnt come out perfectly too, and the amount of effort it takes even for an experienced forger, and that sometimes you can plan all you want, but shit still happens. So many forging channels dont show the less than perfect outcomes, or attempting to salvage something that has flaws or isnt picture perfect. The fact that you do, and do informative and funnt commentary along the way makes this my favorite knife forging channel on youtube
I really enjoy watching your projects go off the rails and you bring them back. That knife is gorgeous. Edit: Not to say I don't enjoy when they go exactly how you want.
You worked hard on this. The pattern is pretty cool. I hope the hollow grind works out. I really enjoy your videos. I learn a lot and you make me laugh a lot as well.
Been waiting in anticipation for your next video.... I have been having a terrible knife time myself......so kinda laughed as I can feel your fustration. Still looks like a great knife.....8 hours and US 20 later.....you ended up with a flaw.... Please keep the videos coming... Cheers.
When things have all gone to shit, and you've had to re-forge cracks/do loads of extra grinding, have you ever considered masking the issue by forging the billet out to a bar again, and re-twisting? I mean, once your pattern has gone totally mental, an extra twist might look pretty decent!
Great looking knife there Green Beetle. It's too bad about that cold shut but it is a great looking pattern. I'm seriously thinking about getting into blacksmithing myself and one of the things I'd just love to make is a Damascus blade. Well done sir!
Well to be honest, the pattern looks unique, in a good way. Its one of those looks people be like : How the hell did he make that. I would def. buy that. Keep it up

The end pattern looks like bunch of ballet dancers to me.

Kick in the wrinkle beans that's a new one on me.
It pays off
A lot of work, but it is a pretty groovy pattern. Good to see that you got that spot ground out.
I love the pattern. I just started up a UA-cam channel and was wondering what do you recommend the best way to start doing Damascus by hand?
Welding in larger pieces makes for a very different look, greater contrast. Hope to see more of this experiment.
Nobody:
Green Beetle: *Wrinkle Beans!*
Lol
Also why did you and your wife kill Jeffrey Epstein.
My wrinkle beans clenched up a bit in laughter
@@JohnSmith-qh8zx Ooof !! Too soon man, too soon. If I were you, I'd carry a mirror everywhere you go, just incase.

Even though you went thru hell on this blade. It came out cool Steve.
agreed!
I want to see it finished now... =D

I put a clip at the very end
"Wrinkle beans"= one thumbs up!
I feel like there should be a "Aint that a kick in the wrinkle beens" line of Green Beetle merch!
I really like your work, you demonstrate the kind of humility and humanity that allows errors from which to learn.
Great Vid man. Loved the pattern and process to get there. Sometimes its about the journey not the destination. Thanks for a good watch.
It's all about learning, dude. Ive followed you a long time and you have progressed so well.

God I love watching the scale pop off while twisting.
I love your narration.... and whistling. spot on content Steveo !!

That is a beautiful pattern. Work out the process brother, you're on to something fantastic. I'd buy that for sure.
It’s always good to show experimentations, there are not failures as they teach us something every time

Really beautiful and strikingly bold pattern man! Excellent
I think it looks great. I wish my mess ups looked that nice.
Something about that pattern at 11:18 makes me think "crocodile". Beautiful work as always.

I actually really liked the pattern you ended up with. I can't wait until I learn to forge weld so I can make Damascus knives. They're so beautiful.
Still looking amazing!
That turned out Beautifully!! I really like how your knife turned out! Fun video!
Another beautiful knife despite the challenges! Great work Steve:)
That's righteous - don't lose that formula.
You gift us with another video good sir! I thank you for this informative, fun entertainment

maybe grind valleys and do a ladder?
I’ve been wondering about untwisting too. It doesn’t go back to normal that’s for sure. I’d like to see this tried.

That came out great. I loved the pattern
Awesome! Thank you!
Too bad about the delam. I think doing the mosaic slicing (you called fairy) would have been better for the pattern. Keep forging! 👍
I'm still crying from the kick in the wrinkle beans 🤣😂🤣😂
I love that pattern!!! Looks awesome!! That’s what I would call a successful failure!!
I would still call that a success, this makes you dig deeper to fix it👍👍👍👍✌
Look so cool bro 😍 the Damascus pattern 😱😱💪💪👍👍well done bro

The final pattern sort of mimics the black and white green beetle logo you got. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Its a cool looking pattern, good thing you were able to grind out that inclusion.
Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls God Bless Ya Prayers
Nice blade even though it didn't turn out the way you planned. I think it's cool!!
Thanks for sharing. Nice editing (i.e. leaving out the boring stuff). Sorry about the de-lam. Nice looking knife.
It's a very beautiful blade even though it's got a delamination I truly enjoy the pattern and this is a great video
Steve: makes an epic knife that I'd be over joyed to have
Steve: this thing sucks. I'm not even gonna finish it
That came out sweet!!
That really didn't turn out so bad, I know its not what you intended. I liked it.
May not have turned out like you wanted but IMHO still a cool pattern. Subbed.
