I LOVE when people ACTUALLY make the knives/blades rather than taking some metal, tracing an outline of a blade, then cutting it out. You get to see their entire craft on display. So for that, thank you!❤
Oh my god. You actually forged a knife beginning to end and it came out amazing. Everyone else on UA-cam just grinds a knife shape out of a straight, flat piece of metal and they call it “making a knife” once they put a handle on it. Nice job, your talent is very evident.
Absolutely beautiful! What I wouldn't do to have something like that in my knife bag. Been a cook for 30 years now. I have some ok knives, but nothing like that ! Live it !
@@lewgriffinknives216 I loved every minute of it!! There’s a very meditative quality to watching you hammer out the billet and shape the knife!! The Damascus patterns are just stunning! Can’t wait to see more!! 🙏😇💯❤️❤️❤️
The crusty part of the blade is visually interesting but there could be food safety issues. I prefer the more subtle pre-coffee pattern... superb knife.
Lew you absolutly killed it i love everthing about that knife i just finished a couple twisted damascus hunting knives i cant wait to get to your level 1 day happy new year Mark😃👍👍✌
Hello. Good day to you. You did a great job. What liquid did you use in the tube to make the blade emboss the pattern? Is that engine oil/Lubricant? Thank you
Do you have any videos where you have some voice over sections? I have many questions about some of the things that you do and some of the things that you use 😅
Fireplace ashes are cheaper and work better than vermiculite. Forge On!!! Nice to see someone forge a blade. Stock removal vids really suck and there are millions of them.
Tried some ashes before but they soaked up moisture got damp but it could where I stored them was wet. Might try again. Thanks nice to see those who know the difference! 🙌
To remove forge scale quickly, the annealing makes the steel soft so it's not damaged. Normalizing just above quenching temperature before hardening keeps the blade straight from any stress caused by hammering
Dude did you make your press off of plans? I have a big chunk of I beam I’m wanting to make a press out of.. I’m currently using a log splitter converter to a press, and it’s alright but I need more rigidity
Followed some plans found online but changed most of the measurements to fit what I had. Takes some time to get it welded up but definitely worth it, best of luck with it!
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching. Yes there's more control over the steel when forging the shape and much less cutting!
And no stupid music in background , only machine sound and hammer
@@petar_mrkonjicthank God lol

Yeah it's called stock removal and it's just generally faster and easier, more consistent, and for some types of Damascus also necessary.

I love it when a knife was hammered into shape like this. getting real tired when the knife makers just cut the metal into knife shape.

An acid called gator piss

That is a good point. Im in Central California and the humidity is really low. I leave bare steel in my garage for years and it never rusts.

Cant you add in your videos what stuff you are using?
In the video description there's some info
What is the purpose of beating on the blade after annealing? Isn't the point of annealing to realign the grain structure after forging? Curious.
To remove forge scale quickly, the annealing makes the steel soft so it's not damaged. Normalizing just above quenching temperature before hardening keeps the blade straight from any stress caused by hammering
Thank you for the answer! Masterful job on this blade! It is stunning!

3:25 If you have an old radial arm saw or a table saw, you could rig it up with a metal blade to cut perfectly accurate ladder patterns.
It's a good idea, I was thinking of something similar at the time when my arms were tired!
