Popiah springroll (you mentioned lumpiah) 2. Nasi goreng or fried rice 3. Martabak manis (apam balik) 4. Bakso (meat in soup noodles) You wonder why we have it here right? Because it is chinese food from my ancestor in China. That is why malaysia never claimed it is ours. Roti canai is ours because it is different from roti paratha of india. We just laugh off when our neighbour claimed it is their food (those listed). Also they claimed nasi lemak is theirs because they have nasi uduk (totally different dish). This is my 2 cents worth.
It's very embarrassing that you said you don't claim it, but you said that roti canai is yours. Roti canai comes from South India and North India, especially from the city of Chennai in the State of Tamil Nadu. This bread was then brought by Indian migrants to several countries in Southeast Asia

Enjoy your trip! I’ve only been to KL, Ipoh and Georgetown and they we’re definitely nice places. Honestly I found almost all street food to be delicious so that’s be my main suggestion for food. And I quite liked Pavillion in KL for night life :)

As a Penangite, I knew that char kuey teow(CKT) wouldn't be the best the moment i saw he put in pre cooked noodles. The top 3 CKT in penang, Siam road ckt, Ah Leng ckt, Tiger ckt. There are many more, it's trial and error til you find your favourite. Edit: 12:56 Indians in Malaysia are mostly Tamils whose ancestors are from Tamilnadu, not north Indians. The ones you bought the sweets from are from India, not locals Indians. Maybe they're new here hence not speaking Malay.
David, When Star Fruit is ripe its bright yellow and very delicious. That Star fruit was Partially ripe they usually don't have much flavor. Good Video

For me, asam laksa place is ayer itam market. Near kek lok si. I am not sure about those street vendors run by foreign workers which I saw on video. Those are not Malaysians eg fruit stall, asam laksa, char kway teow. They are myanmarese, indonesian and Bangladeshis. The facial features and when they speak up.
