At this time Henry was morbidly obese and his leg was infected so it smelled really bad. The show is making him seem attractive at this point when that is not true. I think Katherine was about 17 when she married him. Poor girl.
Of course Henry had to take this beautiful teenage girl and make her his wife, punishing her with death if she ever decided to try and get a little taste of what life as a young teenager among handsome men felt like.
@@el5406 I rather keep my head first. Henry won't be around for that long at least I get pension and still be dowager queen when he died and after that I'm gonna spend my life the way I want.
Don't forget that sex outside of marriage when you're married to the king is high treason, since it is an offense against the throne. Also, if she became pregnant, the legitimacy of the child, and therefore the succession, would be in question.
Poor Katherine and all the 6 wives were forced to marry henry but poor katherine Howard was just 17 and married a 45 year old and yet she fell in love with another and had to be beheaded so sad..
@@8bennaboo That could be true but at those times people, especially women had very little saying on the matter of the king wanting to marry. Most likely all of them appreciated the privilege of being Queens of England but in reality if the king proposed to them their families wouldn't refuse for anything in the world.
The actor playing Henry did a great job, though I wonder if they may have done a disservice to the character by casting someone so handsome by today's standards.
Well, Henry WAS handsome, at least when he was young. He was six feet tall, muscular and athletic with reddish blonde hair. His suit of armour from age 22 is in the Tower of London and gives a good idea of his athletic physique back then. It was after his jousting injury prevented him from exercising that he began to get fat.
@@chooseyourpoison5105 That is true, he was definitely attractive in his youth, by the standard's of his day. But even in his youth, I'm not certain that he would be attractive by today's standards. This actor does still do a great job, his performance itself completely nails the character, in my opinion. Though man, it's easy to forget how. . .less than prince-charming-esque he must have looked by the time Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard came along.
@@dayschange2 Well, Anne of Cleves shoved him off her when she first met him (not realising who he was) and one theory about Katherine Howard was that she was shagging Thomas Culpepper in hopes of falling pregnant so she wouldn't be obliged to bed Henry any more . . .
My guess is they took the logic of, "Monstrous people being conventionally attractive makes them sympathetic and eligible for redemption somehow," like that of the Phantom of the Opera.
Apollo Huh. She seems like she could. Daenerys was quite young. And even though she was aged up in the show, she was still barely an adult. This actress would make her look younger.
Just as he's coming around the table you see a brief side glimpse of his torso and it surly looks like a gut/beer belly is forming. Unless it's just the clothes. In that whole scene he really looks bigger even.
Well . . . it's not like he had to bang out an urgent diplomatic email to the king and emperor in order to intercede and prevent war. In an era when official communications moved by riders, and boats driven by sails and oars, a 20-minute roll in the hay was not going to bring about Armageddon.
@ScienceGeekGurl27 that too... as well as her falling in love with Culpeper... she did realize he (Henry) wanted a child with her and she wasn't giving him that yet but she was falling in love with Culpeper... remember in episode 3 she sends him a love letter (which was probably THE letter that is still left out of the many she sent Culpeper) telling him she was sad without him and she was crying as she wrote the letter...
All these old geezers trying to impregnate this literal lass, yet it being socially acceptable is so disturbing… Especially a monarch at aged 49. It’s just so weird and I can’t get over it!

@ScienceGeekGurl27 yeah but if you pay close attention in the scene as he lifts her up and takes her away she doesn't look happy at all... which is why I stated that she probably wanted to be with Culpeper more...she had fallen in love with him by the time she was executed
Gracie Clark this was honestly a poor portrayal of her since they made her so promiscuous in this series, in reality she was just a poor and naive child who married a 49 year old man and was beheaded for adultery with a younger man, there was even little proof of her actually sleeping with Culpepper but they wanted to as Culpepper claimed
poor katherine, she was young and wanted to dance and be with young and handosme men,not a man old enough to be her father and having to listen to long and boring meetings about the state of the kingdom and having to face the pressure of having a son,she was so young.....poor child.

Ya know Kat didn’t fell this way for him but Henry rlly loved Katherine and I think he was sad when she was beheaded anyway he ordered for it to happen
Historical bullshit! This shows a dashing and handsome Henry frolicking with his teenage bride Katherine. When the truth is that by this time Henry was almost 50 years of age, and so gross and fat (just look at the portraits of him from that time), that Katherine was revolted by him on their wedding night. He was also in poor health by this time, and allegedly impotent. Which is probably the reason why Katherine turned to Thomas Culpeper.
Aria Mohtadi uhhh no Danerys Targaryen is a fierce woman with a face face that can change quickly from naive to a brash bbq cooker Tamzin Merchant on the other hand seems to fill perfectly the innocent side of dany but Emilia Clarke portrays her absolutely
@Nighthawk Grayson To be honest I don't know how Tamzin would have portrayed the fierce side, but judging from what I've seen, I think she could have been a far better "naive" Dany. As far as Clarke's performance, I disagree. I think she's failed to give us a convincing Dany performance thus far, save for a few moments. You're right. Couldn't agree more. She fits the bill, but it's Clarke's acting and then the silly writing that's plaguing her storyline all the time...but then again, you can't blame her for acting terribly in front of green screens. It happened to those guys in the Star Wars prequels as well.
“More important than you?”
Romantic but isn’t it really “More important than son making?”
She is only a teen Mary Tudor is older than her and she is Henry’s daughter
all she wanted to do was to realize what it felt like to be a young teenage girl with a boy her age, not with a 40 year old, overweight old man.
