Video shows a majestic beast who seems quite friendly and just patiently waits for the people who are kind enough to share their food with him as they drive by. It seems so strange to have such enormous animals living throughout the wilds of Africa and India. It would definately be a humbling experience to happen by such a beast while driving along the back roads.

It will not be for long being fed with the WRONG sort of food . While it may seem well fed ,bread buns etc are not its normal food and it well suffer the consequences one day also as someone has mentioned when ceased to be fed it will could turn nasty

This particular Jumbo has become a pet as if in a zoo with constant feeding probably of the wrong sort. .This road should NOT be used after 5.30/.6pm. Is it ? There have been tragedies on the Trinco road which is why the British who used it to go to the Naval base used huge nets to prevent them at certain spots .Later some kept to these times knowing WHY traversing this road could be dangerous but as time went by these were ignored with tragic consequences. Yala is sooo different now and 'overcrowded by folk who drive themselves at speed it appears and treat it like a Circus . We once had to take vehicles that were driven by Park staff with guides and NEVER fed the elephants .Altho I had been before ,I became aware of how important even being a few minutes would make and how fast the light could fail.when we saw a dark shadows which looked trees beside the road begin to move .One advanced toward us .It was an angry, male elephant who trumpeted ,flapped his ears, ,pawed the ground and ran towards us in a mock attack. I was in front with my young child in an open Landrover? so 'held her tight against my chest while gazing at its eyes a few feet away., It just stood there looking agitated but not moving and neither did we for a while. My husband in the rear pressed our other children against the vehicle floor .That beast could easily have turned that vehicle over with a flip of his trunk so we stayed silent and motionless for quite a while until it got really restless when we expected the worst at which stage the guide stood up and shouted and screamed in Sinhala "Aliya go away, go away. I thought he had lost his mind but was told later that elephants do not like the sound of the human voice so it slowly backed away. We had been staying at Brown's Beach bungalow outside the park where we met an accountant who had to pay an annual visit for that company who had a similar experience but on a flat road He was terrorised too and said he would never bring his family on such a trip.I would never take young children in an open vehicle to Yala ever again and strictly observe these times in such places..

You definitely can. Go to elephant sanctuaries in Chiang Mai, Thailand. But make sure you go to the ones that do NOT ride or make elephant do tricks bc those places tortured them to perform. We went to Hugs Elephants & Blue Daily Elephant Care (highly recommended) .... it was beyond fantastic experience.
Now there's one peaceful creature that might cultivate a real trusting relationship with a human given the chance. As it is she's calm and accepting the kindness of those who want to give her treats of fruit.
