Cooking a Ribeye steak to medium in a cast iron skillet. Salt, Pepper, Butter and Rosemary steak paired with a baked potato, salad and 19 Crimes Cali Red
I just cooked 3 steaks the way you did in this video and they were AWESOME! My grill died on me so this was the first time I ever skillet cooked a steak. I'm Hooked. Thank you for the video.
I salt mine the night before, and put it on rack in fridge. When I take it out 30 mins b4 searing in avocado oil, I give it a light rubbing with lime juice. After searing for around 2 minutes each side, turn temp down, & baste with butter, rosemary, and garlic cloves.
Definitely helped me make some ribeyes. My friends thought it was from the restaurant but I had to make more to show them Learned it. Thank you very much
Wish you would do this again, but then show us how to do a simple pan sauce, I've been experimenting with it , but could use some tips. Steaks looked great.
Love cooking mine on the skillet and those look great man! I’ll have to try pulling out the grease like you did cause sometimes my butter overcooks. Great tip! Couple things I’d recommend to take it to the next level: pat the steaks completely dry before anything, salt way ahead of time to draw out that water and again pat down to suck the moisture up before putting it on the skillet. It will elevate your crust so much more because it won’t boil the water on the outside thus cooking the steak through an almost micro-boil process, it will sear the meat itself. It seems like it wouldn’t make much difference but it does. I personally like to use bacon fat instead of oil, and then cut some of the overly large fat off the steaks on the sides to cook first and add to the meaty oil. Just whenever you make bacon in it pour off the fat into a Masson jar with a cheese cloth to strain the bacon residue and it’s great for literally everything that requires the stove. Lastly I recommend to cook them by about a minute less on either side, do your basting and at the end put them on a plate with foil over top. This will let it sit to reabsorb the juices while finishing the cooking process but also allowing you to still have a nice warm steak. Nothing worse than letting a steak sit and it getting cold. 👍🏻 Bonus points if you roast some garlic before throwing your steaks back on and base that with the butter too. it’s not a huge deal to not do these things but if you’re looking to really impress whoever you’re cooking for this is where it’s at! Great vid and look forward to trying the trick of removing the oil! Getting close to better than restaurant perfection!
@@thesmokingdj9826 hi I’m just seeing this video it helped me a lot. I’m a beginner & I do like well done steak. Can you tell me how long to cook ribeye steak on stovetop I would really appreciate it
@@elsut2357 I truly would not recommend any cut of meat to be cooked well done, let alone a beautiful cut like a ribeye, but if you still want to do it that way I would use a temperature probe. Well done is usually anything over 160 degrees. Try cooking the steak to 145-150, this way you still have some juices in the meat which is what you want. Remember to let it sit at least 10 minutes after cooking for the juices to redistribute into the meat. Good luck!
Try this! After searing 4 minutes on one side, flip it and immediately put it in an oven for 5 mins preheated at 500f then take it out and do the butter basting.
Looks good and i appreciate you leaving the dropped cap into pan in the video. I make these errors during my videos and either do a retake or edit it out. 😂

Eating a rare steak is like having cold mush in your mouth and eating a well-done steak is like eating dry rubber. Medium is delicious and the way to go!
Preheat the skillet on medium until you see smoke starting to form from the oil. Once you add the butter bring the setting down to low to make sure that the butter doesn't burn.
I just cooked the steaks the way you did in this video but actually the oil sprinkled all over my cooker in a horrible way, but it tested great, any advice to stop the hot oil sprinkles?
Cook it outside if possible, but if you can't, I usually place some damp paper towels around my skillet, being careful not to be near the burner or flame. Also, turn on the overhead vent if you have one.😉
I put a dishwashing glove over my smoke detector before frying. Sear equals smoke, and I got fed up with the alarm. My stove fan always gets overwhelmed.

There really isn't a gauge for the temp. You will know that the pan is ready for searing once you have it on for a bit and sprinkle water in the pan. The water should dance around, not boil. If you have oil in the pan, it will begin to smoke a bit. Enjoy!

Too much oil in the skillet. Medium (or a little less towards medium rare), not medium well, is a goal. Basting with butter & a spice or two is a great finish.

It will most certainly not get into the actual steak xd. This was a weird video. Why did you teak them out before adding butter? I didnt get that part. Not sure about the dry rosemary as well. Looked good at the end though.
Christian, I took the steaks out to empty the excess grease so that the butter infused better. I usually use fresh but not every household has fresh so I used what is common in people's homes for the video. Happy eating!
I’d have more faith in the process if you followed your own rules. Without fail, each time you turn the steaks you flip the one furthest from you away from you but yet the steak closest to you is flipped towards you, where you can get splattered with grease! What’s up with that?
That is definatley mid rare how I like it. That ain't a medium steak. Medium you'll see more gray and a little pink. That is still in the rare side which is goof anyway. Just saying!

pretty cool...we have a similar style, similar music. Great video...I'll be making the same tomorrow.
Good plan. But, I'd suggest using a bit lower heat, and adding oil when you add butter. That raises the smoke point of the butter.
Right. you only need the high heat for the Sear and low heat for basting

"some oil"... What kind of oil do you use ?
You can use your oil of choice. I used regular vegetable oil
I like avacoto oil. It's got the highest smoke point
Other good options include clarified butter (ghee), bacon fat or non-virgin (pregnant?) olive oil
Grapeseed oil is great to use also
I understand why because of the fat end. But dude literately just said lay the steak away and proceeded to lay it towards him all within 30 seconds.
Do as I say, not as I do! =) I actually did turn my steak towards me (fat towards skillet wall) for it to render without even thinking about it.
