If you go forwards into a station and want to leave the train there, you might not be able to get the loco out if it is a dead end. So I personally prefer to go in backwards and leave forwards, at least for shunting operations. And what you encountered with the occupied track is kind of a dead end situation.

No, it just has very good support for it. But its just an option in the game.

The VR presentation in this game is spectacular, top of class. However, this video series is played on keys / mouse / monitor.
