This song is from Epica’s latest studio album Omega released in 2021. The album was recorded with full orchestra, choir, children choir, exotic instruments and more - totally more than 150 musicians participated in the recording of this epic album. Some elements of the album recordings are being used as backing tracks in Epica’s shows as well as in this one. This explains the choir and extra sound you heard here.
definitely love this song, it's just a masterpiece.. it brings together all the elements, symphony orchestra, choir, angelic voice, death growls, going from progressive metal to black and death metal... it's just perfect...
Neem nog hamburger 😢
I think Coen triggers the choir yes, he writes and records the choir lines for the band.
Tides of time by epica next please lauren it is a balade
The Omega Alive was a stream done during covid (at a time, in Europe, where things were getting a bit more "normal"). They prerecorded the stream, but had both children choir, real choir, jongleurs, etc. in for the show. Coen does the same thing Tuomas (Componist, lyricist, keyboardist from Nightwish) does - they control everything from their keyboards. About Kingdom of Heaven - III. KOH is mostly written by Mark (guitar, growl/scream, lyricist & composer) and Isaac (lead guitar, clean/growl, part time lyricist & composer). Mark had been stock with this piece for a very long time. Both Mark & Isaac lost their grand-mother around the same time. Isaac came to Mark and said he had some ideas how the piece could progress, and would Mark be interested in hearing his ideas. Shortly after, they had to reduce a bit the length of this masterpiece. The result was, you just heard.
So great to see you introduce your friend to EPICA. Thank you so much.
Great reaction. 🤘
Tides Of Time ❤
About the live shows: They do play on a click track. That track also controls the light programs and stuff on any video screens. I do think that Coen starts the song from his setup. Also: depending on the venue they being the same amount of props and pyro as you can see in this video. Unfortunately for you guys though, the snakes are only used for shows in Europe.
I had the pleasure of seeing them spit fire live a couple of times. Ow .. and on their 20th anniversary show they also had the dancers.
I wish Kat could also hear the most amazing ballad, incorporating three different singing techniques, and apparently a very difficult song, written by Simone and Coen in Epica: "Tides of Time"
Unfortunately, there's no top-notch video version of it, except the one with a static image on Epica's own youtube channel. So I recommend that one.
EDIT: Now that I've watched the whole reaction, I think I should make it clear that this "Omega Alive" project was a live performance with a full set, but without an audience, because of the pandemic. So you are actually seeing their actual performance in this video. It's not a music video.
The fan-made lyric video by Elimeleh69 is pretty cool, because it not only shows lyrics and imagery but also footage from various live performances.
@@cancelled_user Thanks, Kyle, that's a good point! I tend not to enjoy lyric videos so much, so I suppose that's why the one you mentioned was out of mind for me. But I agree, it's a good choice!
I actually prefer that one to the one that LuBazan had made, which I felt incorporated too much dissimilar footage.
This is my favorite live version of Tides of Time. It is an acoustic performance from Pinkpop in 2010 on the 3 On Stage intimate venue. So jealous of the people who got to be there. This is the original video with just Tides of Time. ua-cam.com/video/ksmBwx_cYgM/v-deo.htmlsi=NDp32h1Rs9mr6fAc. Metallwish has applied his production magic to the original and created this high quality version of the whole 3 song setlist (Tides of Time, Solitary Ground, Quietus). ua-cam.com/video/ERQmengyF1I/v-deo.htmlsi=wx0wqZJ-A4szc4b0. All three are beautiful but especially love Tides of Time and Solitary Ground. For another take on Tides of Time checkout this acoustic version with Marcela Bovio and Coen. Marcela was at Sandlane studios to record backing tracks for an Epica song (probably for the Omega album) and asked Coen and Joost van den Broek to record this version with her. ua-cam.com/video/iL_P6VBJJH4/v-deo.htmlsi=e-THlSpboEf7IssG. Slightly more operatic but equally beautiful. Love Simone and Marcela's voices.
Hi Lauren, next time Kat is on your channel, you should show her on of their beautiful ballads, I would suggest this one, you have heard this one before, but I think Kat would really like it 🙃
EPICA feat. APOCALYPTICA - Rivers (Live At The AFAS LIVE)
Or the Omega Alive version of Once Upon a Nightmare, I don't think she has reacted to that yet.
Either of those could be great! Thanks for the suggestions!
@@ChicagoReacts Hi Lauren, please show her "Unleashed", it's more straightforward song with a beautiful melody and Simone sounds incredible in it. Make sure it's the new 2023 performance titled "Live at the AFAS Live". It's really spectacular, both audio and video!
I concur
And Design your Universe
Thank you very much beautiful ladies for this awsome reaction!!!
Kat should really hear Epica with guest Floor Jansen singing Stabat Mater Dolorosa.... includes choir and orchestra.
I concur - and this is opera right in the middle of a symphonic metal concert. Also a great way to introduce Kat to Floor Jansen.
Yes, an arena full of metalheads completely entranced.
SIMONE THE SINGER BY EPICA Camewith 17years to Epica and is now 43years old and is one of the best sopranos in Metall 🤘
I think a good video to follow up for Kat to experience Simones voice, would be "Chasing the Dragon" from Retrospect
Hi if you want to know how their live show works check out this video, they show you all of the equipment and what it all does 🙃
RIGGED: Epica | GEAR GODS
Ooh, that sounds cool. I might put that one on the Americans Learn channel
Haha, I’m not the only one to see the likeness of the Steward of Gondor in Ariën…😂
And simones best frend sing by Nightwish her Name is Floor Jansen 😊
Between Epica, Nightwish and Lovebites it seems all the best music is coming out of Netherlands and Asia- Symphonic Metal in Netherlands with prog metal and out of Asia all female metal bands and female led metal bands like Lovebites, Nemophila, Aldious,Mary's Blood, and Unlucky Morpheus. here's a lovely song by Lovebites where the lead guitarists starts out on Piano playing Chopin. Swan Song with Chopin Piano Intro ua-cam.com/video/WBhtqgiXEA4/v-deo.html closed caption works for lyrics I believe on this song
It's true that in this song Simone Simons does mainly use her belting / chest voice, but she also has a very beautifull pure and clear semi-operatic headvoice. It would be interesting to let this lady react to some of the more orchestral pieces where Simone uses her Headvoice more. A few suggestions are:
- Sancta Terra (with Floor Jansen as a guest, live at the Retrospect, with full orchestra)
- Stabat Mater Dolorosa (with Floor Jansen as a guest, live at the Retrospect, with full orchestra)
- Unleashed (live at the Retrospect)
Epica did give the better show (Philly Oct 22), but Sabaton IS amazing! Simone is mesmerizing. As others have said, most symphonic bands perform with tracks. The cost of transporting a full orchestra would be astronomical. Backing tracks are run from computers, so they are extremely reliable.
That being said, Epica performed with a full orchestra and choir in 2013 for their 10th-anniversary Retrospect show. I would highly recommend listening to the show Unleashed or the song Sancta Terra with Floor Jansen as a guest vocalist!
Rivers have to be next ❤
You really should show her the song design your universe live retrospect, its 10x better than this and they play with a full orchestra
🐕
Floor Jansen interview (with subtitles!) and Puccini Aria Live in Tiende van Tijl 2013-1-2 ua-cam.com/video/Od_qcbw3f5Q/v-deo.html This Floor Jansem (Nightwish) doing real Opera aria...
Let’s leave Floor to another vid please….enuf of Floor overlaod
I'm pretty sure this was a live stream.
Pre-recorded live,, then streamed, not live streamed due to set changes and obvious issues that could go wrong with a live stream.
@@PHDarren aha, okay. But they did play live, right?🤔
@@petrabierlee2151They did.
