@@ThomasHeatonPhoto Social media sux man, why pressure yourself? I frankly dont care how much anyone posts (no offence) , I have no fear of missing out on content or subscribers. @ThomasHeatonPhoto you were born before computers were in our homes, yeah? as kids, we didnt plan, have expectations, or time limits when we left the house to 'play'. I think one of the hardest parts of photography is that we compare our everyday to the lifetime works of those who came before us. If any one of my photos is still being looked at in a hundred years time, I'll call that a win. Keep fighting the good fight Thomas, we're all here for you as much as the photos, if not more so.

The freedom to just go where your instinct tells you and no time limits is photography nirvana Thomas. I just spent 4 days in Scotland and once I had visited the usual spots the best day by far was just schlepping around a loch finding woodland compositions, the creative brain relaxing into its work. Great video as always Thomas, keep the faith.

Hey Tom, been following you since I was 14 years old. You have been one of my biggest inspirations for landscape photography. Thanks to you I have followed this passion for the last 10 years. I always admired how you always kept it real. It is refreshing to see in a world of influencer photographers that show only their best work (which often times is not even good). Thanks to these kind of videos is why I have not quit photography. We all go through rough patches, event the best, like yourself. Take this time as a moment to appreciate everything you have done, look at your past work, see everything you have achieved, and continue moving forward. What's refreshing is YOU, young man! Follow your craft and work hard to master it. BUT always remember it's FUN! I've done this since I was 10 years old, so just over 50 years now and I'm still enthralled by the MAGIC of making images. Took longer in the old days but it was the anticipation of getting back to the darkroom, developing your film, eagerly waiting to see good exposures, then drying and cleaning, and PRINTING! The MAGIC of seeing your image in the amber/red light, begin to form and realize in the developer, the impatience of stopping then fixing and you're finally able to turn on the lights and see if you GOT IT. Often NOT but when you did, "Oh, what exultation!" Today, I'm still a child, all giddy and snapping away, and instantly gratified by seeing the image appear on my view screen and so anxious to get it into post and to make it as I'd envisioned. I applaud your enthusiasm Gaston and best of fortune in your own photographic journey! I have a nagging suspicion you'll make a good go of it.

I just paused at 4:20. Before continuing, I wanted to say that I really feel for you-I can sense the struggle you've been going through since the videos about your knee and the realities of getting older. It genuinely made me feel a bit sad to see you feeling down. I'm facing a similar challenge here, even if it’s in a different genre. The stories you share in these videos go far beyond just the 'quality of photography.' They’re real and resonate deeply. People say that the toughest moments are actually good-they’re turning points in our lives and careers because they put us at a crossroads. Just keep doing your thing...everything will fall into place Tom!

Tom, thanks so much for this video. I've found myself in a rut with my photography this year having very very low shutter count over the course of 10 months. Until, I've just returned from spending 2 weeks in Scotland in Glencoe and Skye. And then another week in Ireland. A whole three weeks dedicated to nothing but the experience of leaving the U.S. for really the first time ever and exploring this beautiful part of the world. This experience did so much, not only for my photography, but also my soul. Watching this, and having just been there, and now going through all the frames that I took over those three weeks, has brought back that joy, that spark. Much more than any piece of gear I could have purchased instead. As always, keep posting your journey, I will be watching. And perhaps inspired again, in the not to distant timeframe, to explore taking my camera.

If we are always learning (likely), then perhaps we need to be kind and gentle with ourselves, like we would with our children, during these "disorganized" spells of our own (I'm in one right now, too. I find it fantastic to realise the difference between a landscape photographer and a concert photographer in regards to ISO.
A concert photographer is happy if he can go as low as ISO 800. In fact, I have shot concerts on max ISO (6400 on the Sony-Nex5) just to get the artists stil instead of smeared across the sensor.

What a lovely opportunity to take your time and play. I'd struggle with a 4pm sunset time though. I thought we were bad enough in Tasmania in winter with 4:40pm!! Really enjoyed the second image and the red berry tree image. Just so beautiful.

I appreciate your honesty in this video Thomas. I often have those feeling about not achieving decent images every time I head out. In reality it’s just not always possible, weather, light and of course your own mood, always influence our photography. The positive I suppose is you do learn from those spells where things don’t quite seem to work out, even if it is not obvious at the time. Anyway a great set of images, thanks for the inspiration and glad you kept your feet dry in that stream 😊

The video might say that your photography “hasn’t been good lately” but those of us watching this week’s content might argue otherwise. The images at 3:09 and 16:22 are personal favourites, and - as usual - it’s another lovely video (with constructive advice). I hope you know that your subscribers really appreciate how much effort you put in to make these videos (and to produce them at a high standard). P.S. Thanks for featuring the Raw vs. Edited versions of your images at the end of the videos: they are always useful to see.

Mate, some times we have the up's & down's but the content you deliver everytime is great & i learn so much from each youtube video. Keep it up & some times having a little step away just gives us the drive to produce even better content.

Really like and appreciate your authenticity, ever since I discovered your YT Channel many years ago. You are an amazing photographer, and I particularly like your abstract and intimate scenes work. Generally, your work is inspiring. All photographers have phases, where they struggle with their work. I do regularly. But I also believe that is part of the process and is also a sign of developing as a photographer. I am glad that you are enjoying Scotland without any time pressure. I think it is also a good idea, to go back in memory lane, and remember what used to inspire you in the beginning of your photography journey. But I cannot believe, that you did not bring Wellies to Scotland ;-)

I wish I could travel like you and take photos as spectacular as you, but some of us don't have the means to do so, so your videos transport me to those places and the photos challenge me to achieve that photographic excellence.

    Keep your head up Thomas.
I am always looking forward to your videos and watch every one of them since a couple of years!
Not for the nice landscapes - although they are a bonus for sure.
Not for your images actually - although they are good even fantastic somtetimes (the last one was great!)
But mostly for you. You always keep things real, down to earth, entertaining and relaxing.
Just the right thing in this fast life where most social media is full of drama and scandals.

Tom, I appreciate much your openness and honesty, that it’s not always glorious and easy to be at the top. Give yourself space to be human. I also work with compisition, both in photo and music and know very well that it’s hard work where you sometimes have work hard and then maybe even erase and to redo and redo your work. I have learned much from your video's and love watch them. Keep going, Tom! You are an inspiration to many!

Really enjoyed the pacing with this one. Nice and relaxed. As far as not feeling super "on it", I still think a lot of it looks great - but HOLY MOLY, you have an extreme level of creative output that you're maintaining. From my nuggets of experience I know these videos take SO MUCH time and effort, and you're knocking it out of the park. Loads of respect.
Also, that bit with the 5G tower was a riot. 😁

Days full of surprises. What a treat. And a reason to keep shooting. Thank you for taking us along and speaking your mind. Happens to most of us. As a remedy, I am reminded of the musings of New York City street photographer Andre D. Wagner: "What does the world have to show me today?" Keeps me going. Each day.

Was thinking of you the other day. I hadn't been watching any of your videos for a year or two but while out wandering around Banff National Park on a nice misty day the visuals shook out a few memories of you being here in the Park. You always find the Zen moments.

The red berry shot was gorgeous even if you nearly fell in the water! I'm glad you filmed that to keep us on the edge of our seats! And I liked the thought process on composing the leaves. Even if you didn't get a shot, it's fun being out there with you on your adventures, so count that as a success too!!
