  • The Doctor caught me in a trick. I've been running this drive, completely bulletproof, for over a week, but cannot put the shell on it as it will start doing the characteristic "Rana Stutter". I've dialed-in the problem closely enough to be able to duplicate it at will. This video demonstrates that duplicable fault.

It is not difficult. What you need is a disk formatted and known to work, on a drive that has no issues. Those are legion, since the 1050 turned out so good. With good media to test with, it is a process of trial and error. Writing to the media is not advised in the process. That's a reference. Whatever you work off of is in reference to that standard formatted disk you picked. I've never used, seen, nor needed an Atari specific disk reference. Atari shipped those, of course, but any reasonably in-tune 1050 ought to produce a really useful alignment and test disk as simply as obeying the format command.
