Seriously... it hits hard, because I loved in Houston, Texas from 2006-2008, and sometime in 2007 I experienced 3 weeks of non stop rain there. It began flash flooding and FOR DAYS AND DAYS there was a foot or more of water on every road, the over pass bridges looked like Niagara falls and water was non stop dumping off the side, it was unreal. Me being 19 or 20 at the time, took way too many risks and was still driving every day for work and pleasure. I saw cars and everything loose on the ground, float away.. it was absolutely unreal. "This family is paranoid and distrusts the government, let's set up secret government surveillance"
Their reasoning was logical
@@ffdd6102 logic and reason are counterintuitive if they don't anticipate logical and reasonable outcomes for certain actions.
One might logically believe that someone is a threat, but also know that certain actions will logically be perceived as antagonistic. Not doing so is pretty blind.
@@zookuki so what other options do you think they could of done in the very beginning that started all this. They know the guy is an armed anti government individual so just going to his front door to try and arrest the guy seems dangerous. Watching them to see when will be a good opportunity to do so was logical. But no one could predict the furure and expecte the dog to run off into the surveillance casing this whole mess
Life sucks shi.t happens
@@ffdd6102 look, I am no expert, so my opinions are purely subjective. But...
1. verifying the level of threat via rudimentary review of the group (familial) interaction
2. verifying the quality of information through multilevel verification (both achievable via human and artificial verification systems - both available at the time of this event)
3. on-site: given events that transpired, even merely a better quality or organisation of surveillance - both via humans and animals (dogs).
These things could have been managed far better.
Governmental organisations rarely make such 'blunders'.
I’d say the whole incident justified his anti government viewpoint entirely.
Darren’s photo he posted from inside his truck along with the caption actually broke my heart.
The baby in Vicki's arms was Elishiba. I knew her in high school and she was really awesome despite what she had gone through. I don't blame that family for their hatred one bit.
I bet those white supremacist were good beautiful souls that aren’t racist and filled with hatred at other races
Wait you knew her? Dang that’s crazy.
That’s insane that you knew her! I hope the family is doing ok, even if a little.
I’m surprised they even let her go to school, with school being tied to the government. They should’ve just left these people alone. They just couldn’t handle that this family wasn’t dependent upon the government; scared of losing a couple dollars.
All the government did was prove them right. And the sniper that murdered Vicki went to murder more people in Waco. 100% instigated by the feds. Criminals.
In reading through these comments, I should have made Ruby Ridge a stand alone episode. I did my best to present the basics of the story as clearly and neutrally as I could, however, by making it a short episode I left out some smaller details that deserved to be included. My intent with this channel is to tell interesting stories without my own opinion muddling them up. If I ever drift away from that, please let me know and I'll course correct. Thank you!
You've done great keeping neutral so far 😁

I would also like to point out that one of the people who was murdered in Portlock had been bludgeoned to death with a heavy piece of logging equipment. This particular piece usually required 3-4 men to lift, and so for a grown man to be bludgeoned with it... well, it makes you wonder.

@@leandrocambuta7178 true it's really fascinating. Our planet have many secrets.
Years ago I visited Rainbow Campground in Michigan and talked with the owner, a very nice man who wanted to have some small gatherings with primitive camping and live music on his rural property. He said that the local police were upset because they thought he was encouraging drug use in the area. He told me to come back and see how family friendly the situation was. A few months later there was an article stating that the owner and his handyman were both shot and killed by police. They claimed that the handyman had a rifle but he actually had a garden tool. I'm from south east Texas and even though I was only 16 at the time I remember the story of Darren circling around the news. The scary thing about SETX is that it floods SO easy and not only do you have to worry about the flood waters but you also have to worry about the animals in the water such as snakes, alligators, and ants.
Ants?
@@spencerdunn6933 ants can form floating "islands" during a flood, I'm guessing bumping into one while wading through water would be like walking into an anthill
'off safe, slack out, ready to engage...' This was really the first sentence I've heard MrBallen utter, that tells me what he used to do for a living.

I said the same thing.
My son went to school with Darren. His death hurts my heart, he was a beautiful soul. I can’t imagine the pain his mother and family felt when he was found.
The tax day flood (that’s what we in this area called it) was highly unusual. It flooded areas that normally don’t flood. The raging flood waters destroyed so much. Darren was young, not sure what to do as this wasn’t a normal flood. My heart broke when I heard what happened to him. When I went to pick my son up from school, Darren would be there to give me a hug, amazing smile and kind words. I count my blessings each day that my son is still with me.
So sorry for your loss.
@@sjm8650 the currents of the water during that flood were highly unpredictable. That was a very unusual flood for this area, they say it happens once every 100 years there. When he got out of the truck, he was still surrounded by water. Fast flowing water. He had two options, be drug into the current, or the way he ultimately died.
The world is such a small place I live in the dfw area but spend a lot of time in Navasota and nobody ever knows what it is even as born and raised texans to think it’s here on this channel odd
@@sjm8650 water and floods are so deceptive and precarious. Flash floods are named for how quickly a dry area can become a raging river, in just a few minutes. When I was little there were 3 workers fixing a large drainage pipe near my home, the type of pipe you can walk in. A summer storm started w just a little lightening, while there was still sunshine. Then a cloudburst occurred as the workers were gathering their stuff, and all 3 we're knocked down and dragged buy a wall of water that started from an area of higher elevation where the water collected toward the pipe that they were on the other side of. All 3 died. It taught me to never wait to see how bad things might get during a regular rain, let alone a cloudburst.
So I have seen several stories about alaska, and enjoyed every one. To finally hear a story about portlock is amazing. I live across the bay and have dealt with the people that came in searching for bigfoot, and regularly work with the natives that own the area.
My great uncle lived for a time in Fairbanks after he went to Alaska to work on the pipeline in the 80's. A gentleman approached him to see if he would go with him to provide security because he wanted to write a book about Portlock. My great uncle said sure thinking he would be on the lookout for bears. They hired a boat to take them in but dropped anchor a good distance away , untethered a small raft and said he wasnt going any farther in. My great uncle said the man seemed really nervous and barely went into the remains of the town. While they were there he heard loud screams and large rocks being thrown at them. He said the creepiest part was how everything went quiet in the forest. The man took a few photos and said " f" this shit c'mon I'm done. They loaded up and left. Many of the native Alaskans tribes wont talk about the town or the creatures that many believe are bigfoot or Yeti or a cross of the two.
I trust the natives
It's hard to believe the stories become progressively worse when the first one is just so devastating. 😢 RIP Darren.

There is a similar case to Darren, a woman who drowned in her car when she drove into flash flood water during a pre-dawn newspaper shift. The 911 call is infamous for being scary and that the 911 operator was incredibly rude to her.
Thats the one where the poor woman is begging for her life and crying that she's scared and the 911 operator tells her to shut up right? I was livid when I heard the 911 call and I so desperately wish charges were pressed against the operators but atlas she wasn't punished at all
Yea i heard the audio. Not cool at all. My heart felt for her! I was scared and pissed at the same dmn time!
I heard that 911 call and yeah the operator was a bitch
I heard that call. I was so pissed.
Yup! That 911 operator should go to hell for what she did to that woman in her last moments
In story number 2, surely the marshals that had the original run in with Randy, his son and his friend, when the dog’s ran into them, have to take a lot of responsibility for what happened afterwards. The way they described the situation to the FBI got the Feds fired up even more than normal. The order to shoot anyone with a weapon, or if they were suspected of holding a weapon, was due to what they were originally told. It made a potentially deadly situation even worse.
The second story is EXACTLY why that family wanted nothing to do with the government...and they weren't wrong.
And you are exactly correct, look at them now.
No one should want shit to do with govt. Power corrupts.
Imagine being the last guy in Portlock, just waiting for like a month to leave.
I'm pretty sure he was there for a few years after everyone left, Ballen said all the people left in 1949 and the post man was allowed to leave in the early 50s. Hes got some balls, I would of been so damn terrified.
@Cozy Dorian wat
you would need a gun arsenal like that weaver guy had
No job is worth that mess
Well I have friends on reservations and any gun don't do shit with one guy you would need three DELTA teams and M4A1s. To take shit like that down.

People, I live in Louisiana, where we get hurricanes every year. Don't ever, EVER go back into your vehicle if you're in a flood. If the water has risen high enough where you have to leave it then you're sentencing yourself to death if you get back in it.
Man the thought of a river just running wild like hulkamania all over the town doing whatever it wants terrifies me. I am never leaving the mountains.
I’m from around that same area there is no hope in that situation. I could get behind this, 100%.
Yes!!!!
The FBI at Ruby Ridge acted criminally.
They definitely acted brashly and way out of line, but those marshals are who should pay. They lied to the fbi and inflated the ‘threat’ the weaver family posed (They did pose a threat but definitely not one to the proportions that those marshals portrayed it as.) the fbi had no idea that the weavers weren’t as big of a threat as they said (Though why wouldn’t they ask for the details in their surveillances? How the family acted? What their routine was?)
as they often do as well as the ATF and DHS etc...
As they often do
Well, the Weaver guy runs into the woods after his dogs, and suddenly comes into contact with a whole bunch of armed men hiding on your property. If the Weaver guy shot first, if you were in his shoes, wouldn’t that seem like an ambush of some sort? And with a split second to react.

Alaska has a lot of big, fast, bears and other big animals. I wouldn't be surprised if the "mystery creature(s), turned out to be bears, moose wolverines, or a combination of these sometimes dangerous creatures. Setting up a cannery with wild animals all around isn't the safest thing to do.

Can You imagine what kind of Great Country America Would be today if he were dragged out into the street of the Capitol and summarily HANGED by Our Military, the "Federal Reserve Act" torn to pieces and declared NULL & VOID and Sen. If you're in the middle of a flash flood and on a highway in a traffic jam, you can't do much even if you report it to emergency services, the likely hood they could've got there or would have made it a priority is unlikely considering the whole area was dealing with that weather.
